1. ITS STRANGE
....DACON9   (07.13.11)
PEOPLE WILL LISTEN TO ARTISTS TALK POLITICS... BUT NO ONE LISTENS OR LOOKS TO POLITICIANS TO SING AN OPERA OR A PAINTING ON CANVAS... COULD IT BE THAT THE TALENTS ARE SPECIFICALLY DEFINED AND NOT A BROAD SPECTRUM... COULD IT BE THAT BOTH DICIPLINES, ARTIST AND POLITICANS ARE BOTH BRAINLESS? I AM MERELY ASKING, NOT ACCUSING THANKS DACON9 email: jewswithviews@gmail.com
2. Funny people.
Jules   (07.13.11)
Have they ever tried to examine the PLO/PA maps in the "palestinian" school textbooks ? THERE ARE NO GREEN LINES on those maps ! Those funny people still don't realize that in the eyes of the "palestinians" ALL the Israelis are _temporary_settlers_, who are to be deported "back" to Europe/USA/Canada (or driven into the Med). Haven't they learnt a lesson from the blown up buses/pizzeriaz/discoteques ? How could those (presumably) educated people believe that there is any significant difference between the political views of Eichmann and Arafat ?
3. The PA has a death penalty for selling land to Jews
Tahl   (07.13.11)
Which is quite ruthless, barbaric, racist and cruel, don't you think? And most certainly un-democratic. And yet, nobody in the world, including those neo-liberal post-zionist boycotting artists, cares about it, and says the least bit of criticism. However, when Israel fights to protect its legitimacy by enacting sanctions on those seeking to undermine it, these lot are the first to scream "illiegal! anti-democratic! fascist! dictatorship! thought police!" Does this make any sense to you?
4. Edna Mazia
David ,   On this planet   (07.13.11)
You don't need to worry to convert to be a Buddhist, as far as I am concern you are not Jewish. A Jew will never hate so much another Jew. Believe me you have nothing in you that it is Jewish Keep signing those hateful petition under your so called freedom of speech, it shows nothing but your hate and ugliness
5. "Artists"
Carl   (07.13.11)
It should be made clear that many of these "artists" are either now or were in the past financially supported by the State that they so roundly condem. let's see them put their money where their mouth is and refuse to take money from the state.
6. Nature of Democracy
Ayeush ,   Gibraltar   (07.13.11)
It was Lucrece (a Roman philosopher) who in his book About Nature is describing the expansion of the beast in their environment. The more he succeeds the more he dares. However Democracy is an Art of Compromise, not one of monolithic sequences. The wolf crying for fascism (again paraphrasing Lucrece) is the one who has seen his teritory guarded against the wolf's rapatious appetite. Should Israel be happy with the Law against INTERNAKL BDS?! Of course not, but there was no other mean to bring back the level plain field to a compromising, and non-monolithic point. There is a lot of room according to what I understood from the reports, as to the mecanism that would require Israeli citizen to remedie any abuse of the spirit of the law.
7. We have a saying in America:
Former leftist   (07.13.11)
Don't bite the hand that feeds you. After the Six Day War, it was Israeli government policy to send people to live over the Green Line, both east and west. Some people went for nationalistic reasons, some went for religious reasons, some went because they wanted to get out of the city, some went because you could get a house with a lot of land for almost no money, and it was a chance for a better life. Not everyone living over the Green Line is an ultra-right wing religious fascist. And since the left insists on democratic values, well, one of them is that even ultra right wing religious fascists have the right to go to the theatre if they want to, especially if the salaries of the actors are being paid by the state. If the actors refuse to act, their wages should be docked. You can't have it both ways.
8. # 3 Tahl
Rachel ,   US   (07.13.11)
I do wonder what any of these leftists think about the PA threatening to kill anyone who sells to Jews.
9. Edna Mazia
David ,   On this planet   (07.13.11)

10. Leftists, leave Middle East and go back to Europe
Yahoodi   (07.13.11)
Proud yahoodi.
11. Critics are easy
ralph ,   caesarea   (07.13.11)
to assume their acts is more difficult. The artists should be adults...
12. Is there English translation of the proposed law? Thank you.
leo ,   usa   (07.13.11)
13. Where is Am Israel????
Avram Goldsmith ,   Toronto, Canada   (07.13.11)
It's a extorsion of Am Israel apathy from the side of self denial and desgrounded jews. On all this calls, I don't see any reaction from Israel inteligency, and let everything to be corrected by political means.
14. You cannot have it both ways
David M.   (07.13.11)
They can boycott anyone they like to as private citizens. No one can force them to visit Ariel. However, as long as they receive money from taxpayers of a country or areas of the country they boycott, they forfeit that right.
15. Hasta la vista my fair Lefty friend...!
tom ,   tel aviv   (07.13.11)
16. Strange situation
M.J. Eizen ,   Petah Tikvah, Israel   (07.13.11)
I am against this legislation, even though I support the settlements, and I am very right wing. As an American Oleh, I find it strange that such laws could even pass, as they are unknown under the First Amendment. That said, I think the solution is to publicize all of the Leftists, that support these boycotts, and make their names known to the public so that we can boycott them, and not see their plays, movies, or read their books, or support them in any way. What is strange is that these same leftists that are against this bill as thought control, had no problems with the state investigating Torat Hamelech. They both smack of Orwellian thought crimes, and should not be allowed in a democracy. Free speech should be protected whether it comes from the right or the left, and let the public decide in the marketplace of ideas.
17. they should write a play about it
Avi Stein   (07.13.11)
then they should leave Israel
18. Mazia said....
gumpps ,   Haifa   (07.13.11)
"Not only is it illegal and undemocratic," Mazia says angrily," "it's a huge step toward fascism." and then... "I'm waiting for a charismatic leader to take the matter into his own hands, lead a depressed nation." So, she wants a fascist dictator! I think that she is a bit confused about the difference between dictatorship and democracy.
19. I always knew that laws do not apply to Lefties
Zev ,   Israel   (07.13.11)
as they can choose which laws they will follow. But they will always scream "it's the law" and it's "Illegal" when it is against the right.
20. GOOD FOR THEM
Levi-the-Lion ,   London   (07.13.11)
for taking a principled stand. Does this mean that Israel supporters will no longer use the (already spurious) "only democracy in the Middle East" tagline? Whatever ever happened to "I disagree with what you say but I defend your right to say it"? We must step back from the brink of fascism.
21. The demgraphic has changed in Israel and...
David T. ,   USA   (07.13.11)
the Left better get used to it. For Years Israel has been ruled by the Left causing great damage and giving aid to delegitimizer of the state.
22. Forms of organized boycott ARE FASCISM !
Amihai ,   Yesha   (07.13.11)
There is nothing closer to fascism that a boycott against part of the population with whom you disagree. Trying to force people to accept your positions by such a way is in no way part of the concept of democracy but fundamentally against it. Noone's more hypocritical than those hateful people.
23. #16
Amihai ,   Yesha   (07.13.11)
Know that there is only but 2 western countries which doesn't have laws restricting boycotts. None of them is USA, which has such a law.
24. Lemon Tree Leftists
yoni ,   tel aviv   (07.13.11)
The leftists try to look nice on the outside but the fruit is impossible to eat. If you boycott parts of Israel you are causing financial damage to your country and the residents of that part of the country. The leftists who vocalize their boycott should pay the damages I dont see why not
25. Begining of settlements have been defence the border
Avram Goldsmith ,   Toronto, Canada   (07.13.11)
Let no put the label on people and use harsh and inappropiate name, in past these people was hart of idealism to seattle in Eretz Israel, and the media now is demonizing all this values and twisting and indoctrining with wrong labels and political terms, it's more easy to spend your time in Tel-Aviv bars, not to serve in IDF and live a life with lack of pupose no mental training need it .
26. #7 - very well said
William ,   Israel   (07.14.11)
27. #16 - you do know that Constitution is strictly American?
William ,   Israel   (07.14.11)
Citing the US Constitution and Amendments for non-US issues is like claiming the Arizona Immigration law is wrong because of a Common Law statute in Morocco. The US Constitution as a beacon of democracy and equal rights spans the globe, but as a rule of law it stops at the US border. I agree with everything else you posted.
28. #18 - no no no, you have it all wrong
William ,   Israel   (07.14.11)
When it's a despotic leader who the Left disagrees with, he's both fascist and racist (no proof required)... when it's a despotic leader the Left supports, he's a beacon of hope for the people. This is the "democracy" the Left is trying to sell the world. Equal rights for everyone...as long as you agree with them.
29. #20 - ok as long as it stops at words
William ,   Israel   (07.14.11)
I don't recall the saying "I disagree with you but I'll defend your right to actions which support terrorist war criminals who might attack my family, and undermine my State and fellow citizens". and yet, this is the reality we live in. Free speech usually remains at that level - speech. Actions like boycotts can be personal or as a group, but the minute you try to boycott an entire State or work with enemies of the State while accepting State money, you've crossed the line. The UK demands no less from their own citizens, I'm sure.
30. Let these phonies rot in jail. They won't be missed.
Chaim ,   Israel   (07.14.11)
Let these far left phonies, of generally, very limited talent, rot in jail. They won't be missed. Patriotic Israelis should boycott them.
