Salma ,   Palestine   (07.12.11)

2. Democracy Israeli style
Raed ,   Palestine   (07.12.11)
i believe Iran as similar laws
3. No such Mabrook ever in Arab countries
Marco ,   Spain   (07.12.11)
No more failed Arab countries. Reduce their number is more in order, not adding to existing catastrophes.
4. Keeping up with the neighbors
Tom Robinson ,   Colorado, USA   (07.12.11)
The Attorney General should remind opponents of this law that Israel isn't doing anything that the neighbors aren't. It would be perfectly acceptable in Syria, Iran or Hezbollah-dominated Lebanon, if they actually used laws for these things. Maybe it could help Israel fit in....Oh, wait...democracy?
5. #1: It works for us...
Adam ,   Golan Heights Israel   (07.12.11)
....if you don't like it, I am sure you will find one of the 22 states of your kin more suitable. You will not succeed in turning Israel into one of those hellholes.
6. to nr. 1.
justice for all ,   world/planet earth   (07.13.11)
i hope that all countries, as well in the middle east as in the rest of the world will become/become real and full democracies once, for dictatorship/tyranny is a threat/danger/ crime to world-peace, humanity and mankind, just as agression, war, occupation etc.
7. Boycotting Israel? Think twice

8. No. 2, you are yearning for Israel democracy like Arab style
Marco ,   Spain   (07.13.11)
You will be beheaded in no time under different circumstances other than Israeli democracy style.
9. Democracy
Joan ,   New Zealand   (07.13.11)
Salma - If you think Israel is undemocratic would you please explain to the World why they put up with enemies such as Tibi in the Knesset. From what I understand he should have been deported long ago along with his mates. You are so like some of your Palestinian friends who come to our land and cause trouble instead of taking the wonderful opportunity for a new start.
10. Response to #5
nadya ,   CA., US   (07.13.11)
No you wouldn't want to turn Israel into one of those hell holes, BUT it certainly would no longer be democratic just least repressive State in the Mideast. No problem, you did your country proud!
11. Response to #7
nadya ,   CA., US   (07.13.11)
I only have to think once, here in America we have the right to boycott anyone or anything, even Israel!!
12. if thsi is a democracy the people thru their representative
ralph   (07.13.11)
politicians make the laws and govern the country. if its a legalocracy then unelected judges do, who do not represent the people and who do not stand for elections. they must be stopped from passing/defeating laws made by the people thru their elected representatives. judges interpret law they do not make, set, defeat laws.
13. Great Law, look at the Jew hate coming out of the woodwork
Hebrew ,   Israel   (07.13.11)
14. #2 Raed - so PROVE it !
CK Tan ,   Singapore, Singapore   (07.13.11)
Feel free to REVEAL the Iranian laws you CLAIM are similar to the boycott bill. Oh, do provide SPECIFIC info and NOT some muffled FOOT-IN-THE-MOUTH ramblings.
15. to no 1
john Darren ,   cairns-Australia   (07.13.11)
Hi squawking squatter parrot-so you don't like living in false "Palestine" now. I bet that you are not going to leave it are you.Are you?
16. To #1 and #2
John ,   Alaska   (07.13.11)
In 1937, Arab leader Auni Bey Abdul-Hadi told the Peel Commission, "There is no such country as 'Palestine'; 'Palestine' is a term the Zionists invented!" In 1946, Arab historian Philip Hitti testified before the Anglo-American Committee of Inquiry that "there is no such thing as Palestine in history." Those are the words of your own leaders. How do you respond to them?
17. Vast patriotic majority must take over legal system.
Chaim ,   Israel   (07.13.11)
It is a disgrace to allow a few far left self proclaimed "elites" to control Israel's legal system. The vast patriotic majority must take over the legal system and reform it so that it represents the true values of Israel. Not the lunacy of appeasement.
18. It is not like the neighbors
Robert ,   NY USA   (07.13.11)
You boycott Israel, you are boycotting your own safety and the safety of others in the public. Like boycotting traffic lights, seat belts, and driving drunk. The neighbors have these laws for the safety and power of the dictator and government, only.
19. Rawabi
Df ,   Beer Sheva, Israel   (07.13.11)
Anyone here recognize the name in the subject line ? I doubt it. Rawabi is one of the major reasons, if not THE major reason for the "boycott law". It is a city being built by the PA (building being done by a Qatari firm), 30 km north of Jerusalem, in the area north of Ramallah. The connection with the boycott law is that the PA has stated that Israeli companies can participate in the building but only after agreeing not to use products or services from Israeli settlements. According to reports, dozens of Israeli companies signed guarantees that they would not use these types of materials. In effect, a boycott of Israeli firms operating in the West Bank, by Israeli firms. This really angered the right wing Knesset members and the result of this is the boycott law. There are problems with the law as AG Weinstein has stated. But the question becomes: Does a country have the right to protect it's own interests in the face of attacks by internal and external "enemies" ? And to what lengths can it go legally to do this. And this question includes to what extent it can violate, if at all, the basic rights of an individual. The attack of Yariv Levin and Ofir Akunis, and others, on Bagatz, reminds Me of the hysteria in the U.S. over the Warren court. The same statements were made then as now - the court is liberal, the courts powers should be limited. The courts opponents tried to push through a constitutional amendment to curb the court's authority. And what were the issues ? More individual rights. Remember the 1954 decision that declared segregation unconstitutional ? What is the issue before Bagatz ? IMO, more or less the same. According to the opinion of Akunis and Levin, and others, if the Knesset passed a law similar to the decree by Pharaoh - all first born males are to be drowned, then there is no recourse because it is a law passed by the Knesset. Yes, this is an extreme example that would not happen, but think about issues less extreme. Whether or not you agree with Bagatz on issues, remember that it is, in the final analysis, your court of last resort to correct injustices.
20. "Get your stinking Paws off of me, you..High Court"!
tom ,   tel aviv   (07.13.11)
21. The Knesset's job is to uphold the laws.
noa ,   israel   (07.13.11)
The Court's job is examine the Knesset's behavior. That is why they are called the "High Court". As much as I hate those boycotts, even when Jews did not have a country, they had the Sanhedrin, and they always had to abide by the rules of the countries they "occupied". We want to survive, but as Jews, not as a bunch of lawless maniacs. Those Knesset members are parasites. Replace them.
22. how can you say its unconstituional
Lemmings Hotline ,   sd usa   (07.13.11)
when there is no constitution
23. i can think of more important uses for their time.
roxanne ,   Haifa   (07.13.11)
24. Good Idea Bad Execution
Nathan ,   Israel/USA   (07.13.11)
The idea of an anti-boycott law is actually very good, but it should be VERY limited in scope. If not then it does infringe on free speech. This law, in it's present state, is a VERY BAD IDEA
25. The left has brought this on themselves
Lou Adams   (07.13.11)
The small overly aggressive far left has continued to step on the will of the people and this law is the result. When the left realizes it is not in control and allows the will of the people to make decisions Israel will finally have free speech.
26. stop using your computer then.
Solomon ,   Netanya   (07.13.11)
27. #11 Nada is that true?
Israel Israeli ,   Tel Aviv   (07.13.11)
Are you telling me that it is legal in the US to publish a call to boycott stores owned by afro-americans? I thought it was illegal.
28. If I am boycotted, I will defend myself against boycotters
Abraham ben Jacob ,   Canada   (07.15.11)
29. Leftists, Euros, UN groups, etc. own the "boycott patent"
