31. US Jews would be first to scream...
Ari ,   Israel   (07.13.11)
US Jews would be first to scream if someone proposed boycotting Arab stores and for good reason. This is no different, but protecting Jews in not PC!!
32. Indeed a problematic law
Yael Schlichting ,   Raubling - Germany   (07.13.11)
But the problem goes deeper. I find the call for boycott as well problematic. It harms other individuals, who are not primarily responsible for the issue the boycotters are protesting. +++ Okay, a call for boycott may be a missuse of civil rights (to put it in cautious terms) +++ The actual problem arises from the highest authority in a state, taking counter-action, which is not less problematic. This puts the basis of a modern state at risk. On the other hand we need to accept, that Israel is a Jewish state. It is a Jewish society, which is under permanent threat from outside and hence is forced to stand together. +++ My next question asks for the higher value. Can a legislation rule, that boycotters are barred from acting? I believe: Yes, it can. BUT!!! Why doesn't it act on rightwing activists as well? Why doesn't it act on Haredi political and sexist activism? +++ I am worried, that Israels society is more and more drifting towards a split, that cannot be bridged.
33. ARTICLE NOT TRUE at all.
.....DACON9   (07.13.11)
JEWS ALL OVER BROOKLYN NY The largest American Jewish population all agree with boycotting thoise that would condeme or boycott anyTHING JEWISH. I cannot understand why the above mentioned characters would object to SELF PRESERVATION througgh various methods without declaring a military war. SINCE WHEN DOES abe foxman represent JEWS? TO BE A JEW IS TO BELIEVE IN TORAH ,unaltered un adultarated unmodernized. JUDAISM IS BELIEF IN ONE GD AND 'HIS' LAWS. ISRAEL IS GDS GIFT TO 'HIS' CHOSEN NATION. The term 'CHOSEN NATION' IS IN TORAH 3500 years ago. AND EVEN the organized daily prayers 2000 years ago . AMERICAN JEWS ARE FOR THE BOYCOTT WHICH IN TURN WILL DEMONSTRATE JEWS WILL NO LONGER TAKE ABUSE LYING DOWN....... JEWS ARE GDs PEOPLE NOT POLITICIANS PEOPLE NEVER AGAIN must have meaning not just slogans. Thank You DACON9 EMAIL: jewswithviews@gmail.com
34. An American Jew who made Aliyah
Yaakov ,   Israel   (07.13.11)
Make aliyah and really show you care! Like so many American Jews, I also had read and commented about Israeli matters, whether for or against, from the comforts of my American home. Then, I realized I needed to make aliyah to show my sincere commitment about important issues affecting my fellow Israeli Jews. This is the best way to express your love and concern for the future of our people. Israel needs your passion and energy so come home.
35. Boycott law I support
Joe cone ,   Usa   (07.13.11)
Foxman jstreet etc don't speak for me I support the boycott law. I am sure that those calls are a organized minority by left wing groups that would be hurt by the law. Bravo israel.
36. Organized
Sam weinstein ,   Usa   (07.13.11)
Can't you guys realize this was a organized left wing phone campain and does not represent American Jews. Foxman is a has been who has turned into a George soros puppet.
37. Tell U.S. Leftist Liberals, DON'T TREAD ON ME !
Robert Blum ,   New York USA   (07.13.11)
38. Your post is illogical and makes poor points
James ,   Herzeliya   (07.13.11)
39. #24, #28
James ,   Herzeliya   (07.13.11)
We certainly are not a super power and we do need the US for another 25 years. On the other hand conditional support I'd rather do without.
40. #29 I challenge you
Israel Israeli ,   Tel Aviv   (07.13.11)
Haim, you allege that "Torat Hamelech" includes an incitement to murder. I challenge you: tell us where in Torat Hamelech (page and paragraph) there is incitement to murder that is not in line with International Law. If you can't find such incitement, I challenge you to be a man and apologize to Ariel from Kfar Tapuach.
41. IGNORE-ance
Gideon Reader ,   USA   (07.13.11)
American Jews sadly, for the large part provide more support to entities dangerous and threatening to Israel than to the security of the Jewish Homeland. Ignore them. Almost everyone does.
42. #22 Ehud, Jerusalem - Israel
Terry ,   Eilat - Israel   (07.13.11)
No one is asking you to buy anything. This law has absolutely nothing to do with personal decisions as to what to buy, where to go, or what to think. But companies who do business with the State cannot expect a gov't. to agree to discriminate against any segment of the population regardless of their place of residence. Artists who are paid by the State cannot expect that same State to agree to discrimination against other taxpayers.
43. American Jews, out of touch with what is Judaism
usa   (07.13.11)
44. We are a divided community
Brooklyn Jew   (07.13.11)
Jews in America and the organizations that represent us seldom speak with one voice on any issue. On boycotts only a fringe left supports them. Now on anti boycott legislation only a very fringe right thinks they are wise or democratic.that the rabidly right wing ZOA had qualms should give israeli's pause. As for my native Brooklyn it is as politically divided among Jews as tel aviv is from bnai brak. I won't speak for boro park and they can't speak for park slope.
45. In what other country...
Taylor ,   USA   (07.13.11)
is it ok to criticize every other policy coming out?? Every other state has their own sovereignty UNQUESTIONED. What is it with people and organizations and more who find it OK to breach Israel's sovereignty!? How about WE AMERICANS focus ON OUR OWN FAILURES. LIKE OBAMA. What has he accomplished since 2008? Other than MORE UNEMPLOYMENT what "CHANGE" did he bring about? Other than the USD weakening by the day!? Instead of focusing on Israel, how about we focus on our own drawbacks to improve OUR country.
46. To all those criticizing American Jews
Mark Jeffery Koch ,   Cherry Hill, NJ USA   (07.13.11)
If you do not like American Jews voicing their opinion then perhaps you need to realize where the overwhelming majority of donations to Israeli hospitals, and organizations that benefit the hungry, the poor, the disabled, the sick and infirmed come from - these same American Jews you are telling to keep their mouths shut. Without American Jews Israel would be another third world country. It is because of the Diaspora that Israel is protected at the United Nations, gets more aid then the ten poorest countries in Africa combined receive, and it is because of American Jews that Israeli charities are able to exist. Be careful who you tell to shut up because if the support and money from American Jews ever dries up Israel will not have a leg left to stand on. Israel's hubris will be its demise. It's nice to think you do not need anyone else but if you really believe that then you are living in a fantasy world.
47. Us Leftists
Roy ,   USA   (07.13.11)
Ignore the silly US leftists who live in white castles.
48. American Jews have lost their way. Too tied to comfort
Ari ,   NYC   (07.13.11)
and now this. shame on those groups they dont speak for me and the majority of knowledgable Jews. Good for Israel, it gets annoying having all these outsiders who "know your business better than you do". Heres some advice to american jewish leaders on when the majority of israel decides on a thing that helps its health---mind your business
49. American jews.....
Shalom ,   U.S.A.   (07.13.11)
should realize that Israel is a different country, it is not a "melting pot", a large portion of the population is hostile and dedicated to the destruction of the country. On the other hand, why should Israel emulate a country that can't solve its own problems?
50. Jews "from Left and Right" almost all "left"
Raymond in DC ,   Washington, USA   (07.13.11)
This article claims Jewish organizations "from the Left and Right have come together to fight an unexpected "evil"" Yet consider the list provided: the JCPA is liberal/left. So are the ADL, the New Israel Fund, J Street and Americans for Peace Now. And Klein of the ZOA - the only "right wing" group listed - is "still studying the legislation". So the writer's claim of a broad consensus of US Jews against the law is without foundation.
51. Israeli Jews irked with US Jews.
Bad assed Jew. ,   United States   (07.13.11)
and rightfully so. Some nerve to interfere with Israel's right o protect and defend herself against those who want her head on a silver platter, US Jews included. Go live in Israel for a while and then, make comments about what the reality of life is in Israel against hordes of terrorists.
52. # 1 Ian Re: "Undemocratic Law"
Bad assed Jew. ,   United States   (07.13.11)
My prayer is that Israel IS isolated from those who seem to think they have the divine unction and free liberty along with the eternal right to try once more to exterminate Jews, this time, not from Europe but, from Israel. "The international community' of which you speak is heir to the same anti semites that existed before Israel was a nation and systematically rounded up Jews for death in Europe and other nations. No thanks, Israel is just doing what every democratic nation does, protect herself. What " International Laws" saved one Jew in WW11? Which exact participants of the "international community' took part in saving one Jewish life? Perhaps you can refresh my otherwise excellent memory, this I goota hear ! Say on, moron.
53. US JEWS VOTED FOR OBAMA
Bad assed Jew. ,   United States   (07.13.11)
THEY SHOULD BE 'IRKED' WITH HIM FIRST. VOTE REPUBLICAN.
54. # 9 Alex money
Bad assed Jew. ,   United States   (07.13.11)
Israel can easily tell America to take the $$ and stuff it where the sun don't shine. Unfortunately, as you must know, many US defense jobs are attached to that money and if that money is denied, how many Americans without those jobs will suffer? On the other hand, the US Congress is soon to end all $$ paid to the pals. ( which compromises 25 % of all pal funds ) In addition, the pals 'donations' are down to one third, leaving them broker than any one of the European nations who also going broke. Sweet, eh?No $$ no pals. Israel, on the other hand is rich, really rich. Ah, the irony, I love it, don't you? LOL
55. Alex, SF, CA
Leon ,   Grand Rapids USA   (07.13.11)
Those millions don't give you the right to vote on Israel's laws. If you want to have a voice, make Aliyah , serve in the army and then vote.
56. alex #9-without israel and GOD and the people they will
mira ,   israel   (07.13.11)
slaughter you in every street corner. and those millions that you talk about will be taken from you. how fool can you be?! american christians have much greater sense of good and bad.
57. Law
michael Pielet ,   boca raton, Israel   (07.13.11)
As an american Jew and Israeli this law is way over due and ALL AMERICAN JEWS SUPPORT IT!
58. Boycotts are economic terrorism
Steve from Raleigh   (07.13.11)
No one is saying you can't protest. But what we are saying is you can't punish people with economic terrorism because they happen to be Jews and they happen to live in Israel. Feel free to smash up your own grocery stores and whatnot. Burn down your own clothing stores. Paint all the windows with "Don't buy from Jews" on your own shops. Really, feel free. But the role of any sane government is to protect its own citizens from racism and terrorism.
59. american jews always irked
moron ,   galut   (07.13.11)
but they still support obama and a 'progressive' agenda far more intolerant for far less valid readons than anti-boycott bill-really stupid!
60. A victim of Itself
Michael ,   California, USA   (07.13.11)
Without a Constitution, who knows what is allowed and what is not under the law? Everything needs to be interpreted anew every time, a waste of time and money. The Yisrael Beiteinu party doesn't know and neither does Kadima what is correct under the law. American Jewish Council doesn't know either what is the Israeli law. So, the Courts need to step in and the State Controller every time a bottleneck in interpreting the law develops. Israel is a country bursting in its seams and patching the holes up whenever it comes to it, always on a brink of a disaster. Knesset members love it as it justifies their ineptitude under the inefficient system. A victim of itself Israel is, on purpose I guess, but it is so illogical that nobody will admit to know what that purpose is.
