1. Great view from Baraks luxury penthouse
Haim ,   Tel Aviv   (07.17.11)
Maybe Defense Minsiter Barak can see the tent city from the balcony of his luxury penthouse , even throw a few slices of bread at them as he drives past in his luxury limousine ? No wonder young people are leaving the country and trying their luck else where.
2. could always join the charideem and get it for free
Avi ,   Israel   (07.17.11)
No need to work, no need to serve in the army or pay taxes, just unzip that tent head to your local social secuirty where you will get it all for free, possibly have 10 kids while your at it, dont worry the state will pay for it all, when i say state i mean our tax money.
3. build a second tel aviv
sweeter than honey ,   far away   (07.17.11)
it should take less than 100 years, and be better than the first. then a third. you understand.
4. The irony is...
Aharon   (07.17.11)
they seem perfectly fine living in tents. Unless the government is charging ILS 3,000/month for living in a tent, they seem like a cheaper alternative.
5. Demolish illegal arab buildings, then build legal apartments
Bunnie Meyer ,   Los Angeles, CA USA   (07.17.11)
6. One abandonment deserves another
Robert ,   NY USA   (07.17.11)
I have seen your leftist, secular, and neo-con Israeli "citizen" web sites of how funny it is to see Haredi beaten up and tossed from their homes. Top funny picture was a teen with a beaten face and tied up by his own tzitzit. What you let happen to others, will one day happen to you.
7. housing is a human right ....time for rent control !!!
rachel ,   usa   (07.17.11)
8. short of communism there is no quick fix
(07.17.11)
Israeli property prices have always been expensive but in recent years developers have been puling down all the older buildings to build new modern buildings where apartments are out the reach of most Israeli's. There are alot of things that need doing but non of which will solve the problem overnnight. 1) Government needs to introduce legislation saying that a percentage of the apartments in all new buildings must be set asside to be affordable housing. 2) Municiaplites ( not central government ) should take more of an interest in the need for affordable homes and not always be so quick to allow developers to pull down old buildings.
9. HOUSING
YACOV ,   TEL-AVIV   (07.17.11)
GO EAST MY PEOPLE TO THE BEAUTIFUL MOUNTAINS OF ISRAEL, THE HEAVENLY LANDLORD HAS GIVEN HIS CHILDREN THIS LAND AS PROMISED TO ABRAHAM, SEND THE NEO-NAZIS BACK TO WHERE THEY CAME FROM.......
10. It's time Bibi & gang wake up to
Ted   (07.17.11)
what are the real needs in this country - to help the next generation and build a country that is stable for everyone - instead of just busy giving money and help to the settlers and haredim, improving their flight comforts, and passing all the useless bills for their own political parties' interest.
11. #5 Bunnie could please supply a list
Avi ,   Israel   (07.17.11)

12. housing prices
Mark ,   modiin Israel   (07.17.11)
Free market economy. Don't like the prices in TA? Move to Lod, Ramle, Ashdod, Holon, etc. and then take a bus to work. Stop crying like spoiled, little socialist babies. You don't have a RIGHT to live anywhere. You have a right to live anywhere you can afford.
13. Abusive talkbacks
British Oleh ,   Israel   (07.17.11)
To infer that people are crybabies is abusive. When monthly rents in Tel Aviv (for a small 2 room apt) are higher than the average monthly wage — there's something wrong. To say people should take buses to work, what about the single mothers with kids she has to leave behind? We simply are creating social malaise by not addressing the basic right of people to be able to live close to where they work.
14. #12 is an IDIOT
USA Oleh 15 yrs here ,   Netanya, Israel   (07.17.11)
I lived in Even Yehuda for 10 yrs, in the past few years the rents have gone up so high, more than any salary, about 1,000 times more. The major and all the other corrupts politicians there have taken land for agriculture and let private owners (probably by cash under the table) buy the land and build on it. My rent went up 20% last year and I was forced to move, since this has been increasing almost 20% per year. Who could pay that? Where shall I move to, that this will not happen? Maybe Gaza? Does it matter that they will kill me there, since I am a zionist? I will move anywhere, but I don't want to move apartments every year or few years. It is too stressful. Also, the renters here should have rights, why do I have to repaint the apartment? I lived and paid rent, didn't destroy anything, but there is normal wear and tear, why do I also pay for that?
15. There should be rental apt buildings
Oleh USA 15 yrs ,   Netanya, Israel   (07.17.11)
The gov't can make rental apartment buildings or private investors, but all of the apts owned by Israelis abroad and foreign investors is really adding to the problem. If there is a shortage, then let those of us who live here, live here and let those that don't give up their land and houses. While those abroad get richer on us, we get poorer and poorer. Stop the landlords who are taking advantage of the situation, due to there being only privately owned places to rent.
16. #12 so all these young people should not join the army since
rachel ,   usa   (07.17.11)
according to your thinking that's socialistic.
