1. So it's been acknowledged that there IS a problem.
israel   (07.17.11)
So, why not deal with it before desperate people take to the streets.
2. The problem Israel faces
Daren Miller   (07.17.11)
is the number of people who own properties in Israel particularly the high demand areas who don't actually live in Israel. Rather than concentrating on banning people from demonstrating in Israel Lieberman would be better employed banning non residents of Israel from owning property within Israel
3. BB why go out for a glass of milk when you got a cow at home

The housing problem is because the land authority is not allocating the new land to build houses. Which is causing shortage and the house prices are reachng the sky. Even our government is taking advantage of the situation and Fisher is making drama (thinking the public is fool) and trying to sell us that all the interest increase on housing prices is for the public benefits. What public benefit? In last few months my Mashkanta is grown with nis 600? Is it normal?? Everyone is trying to steal from simple middle class public but we have nothing left to give. We don't have enought money for food and cloths here.
5. It is not only lack..it is the huge price with no stoppage
Abbie ,   Netanya, Israel   (07.17.11)
Last year my landlord wanted to raise my rent from 2,500 to 3,000...this is highway robbery. Those who have apartments are greedy and the fact that we renters need to move every year is pathetic. There should be some laws regulating the price. Who gets a salary increase like that? NOBODY It means that the longer I stay in Israel, the greater the chance that even with working 4 jobs, I will get to live on the street in the end. This needs to stop. I will always be a renter probably, but I am sick of moving all the time due to the selfish landlords who are money hungry and there is no way to stop this immoral behavior. Stop the real estate from going up more than anything else, so we can live and eat once in a while too.
6. no affordable apartments
albert abrahams ,   gilo jerusalem   (07.17.11)
the prablem has been with us many years! our prime minister saying he will go to work on it is pure b.s.
7. Housing shortage and idiotic bureaucracy
Alf Red ,   Londonistan   (07.17.11)
In 1982 I made an honest attempt to return to Israel. My Mother's flat near Rishon provided in the past by Amidar, cost to buy (pls do not laugh) a whole $8500. For my own reasons I wanted to go to Afula, of all places. And in Afula-Ilit there were whole quarters of hundreds empty flats, built by same Amidar. I first was offered ANY of these to rent, BUT they were all 2-3 bedroom apps, and when Amidar clerks learned I was single - they said NO. Only to families. BUT THEY WERE EMPTY FOR YEARS? BUT I WILL SURELY MARRY LATER? No! So I didn't get a place to live, and left Afula without the pleasure of having me as a new citizen of that great city. That was almost 30 years back. Since then only from USSR a million+ people arrived, and many more from other places, and many have been born. But masses of new dwellings built in the country were BIG apartments of high standards, and even higher prices. The solution to the crisis is obvious even to school kid - we need to build far more, build quickly, build cheaply, build small dwellings first of all. Build in Negev, in Galilee, in Judea and in Shomron. And stop using word "settlers" in pegeorative way. We are all "settlers" OR we are all lawful wardens of the Land of Israel. No in-between!
8. A QUESTION FOR NETANYAHU
LAWRENCE ,   Zefat (Safed)   (07.17.11)
Sir ,if you knew about the housing crisis why did you ignore it ?? a bit like Rupert Murdoch ignoring his crisis and only acting when it is TOO DAMN LATE.
9. IT'S NOT BIBIS' FAULT ,TO BE FAIR
LAWRENCE ,   Zefat (Safed)   (07.17.11)
Prime Minister Netanyahu is doing a good job all round .The housing crisis is not his fault ,it stems from years of greed and "Proteksia " which is inherent in israeli society.Hopefully there will be more cheap housing available in the future ,not just homes for the very wealthy.
10. The ONLY solution
Nir ,   Tel Aviv   (07.17.11)
Presindent Peres, like Ben Gurion, moves to Negev after the presidency instead of investing millions in house in Tel Aviv. Nothing else will do.
11. Aware.
Ehud ,   Jerusalem   (07.17.11)
Tine to get on your bicycle Bibi and also see to it that food prices fall significantly. Otherwise the "middle class" here will dump you in the dust bin of history in the next elections.
12. MR NETANYAHU " AWARE OF CRISIS"
LAWRENCE ,   Zefat (Safed)   (07.17.11)
So do something about it.
