1. Seculars with 1 baby and gays not growing at all it seems. I
Bunnie Meyer ,   Los Angeles, CA USA   (07.20.11)
wonder why?
2. Isn't it wonderful
Zalman   (07.20.11)
to know that in a few years we will have a Halachic state, Boruch Hashem. Seculars can move to L.A. - there is a vibrant Israeli community there.
3. I am very happy with this news!
fg   (07.20.11)
Which is interesting and a bit strange. Or is it? I am totally secular, but ultra-nationalist, but even more than anything anti-Left. Jerusalem then seems to be the perfect place in Israel...
4. What does 'national-religious population' mean?
Ruth ,   USA   (07.20.11)
I am not familiar with this term.
5. the growing trend is significant to mean that
(07.20.11)
mossiach is coming, and at any time now
6. #1 y the nasty comment?
yep ,   over here   (07.20.11)
Is that all you are about? Being nasty? Shame on you!
7. twisted TBers!
"Oreo" ,   Jerusalem   (07.20.11)
I urge all of you to have a look at all the statistics for Jerusalem Even better come out here and take a walk.... remember that Sephardim are listed as traditional national religious Jews and yet they don't exactly fit the box that the TBers here would have them sit in.... so really, come here and have a look at the reality!
8. Haredim leaving Jerusalem is good for the state
Eric ,   Tel Aviv & NY   (07.20.11)
If the Haredim are leaving and being replaced with National Religious, then the Zionist and Nationalistic groups are benefiting. These groups tend to have jobs, pay taxes, serve in the Army, and obey the law. Will make for very quiet news in the city.
9. The seculars will eventually up and leave Israel
Al   (07.20.11)
Cry me a river.... They are desperately trying to hang onto power and so they introduce all kinds of anti-Jewsih crap to waterdown the Jewish flavour of Israel. They play the game as if only they protect the country...BS ....go to any unit in the army and what you will see are national religious youth. The only enclaves they control are submarines and the Air Force and of course the state police (Black Shirts-Yassminim) who are used to beat up on Jews. I say good riddance to the uber anti-religious secular..they are an abomination. Israel will only survive if she is Jewish, proud and free.
10. This is what happens when hilonim don't reproduce
American Sabrah   (07.20.11)
And spend most of their lives partying and skirt chasing till dawn in Tel Aviv. Its time to get our priorities straight.
11. Exactly #9 and #10
Gabriel ,   Tel Aviv   (07.21.11)
Who needs the seculars? Sure they founded the country, made in blossom, and defended it with their lives. Sure they run all of Israel's industries, science, and culture but we have learned from Jewish history, all we need to do is pray and everything will be fine, right? Oh wait, I forgot that the exact reason Israel needs to exist is that praying is equally as successful as staring at rocks in preventing tragedy. It's amazing how over and over again in Jewish history, we make the same mistakes (thinking that relying on god helps anything.)
12. NOBODY needs to leave Israel...
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (07.21.11)
We can learn to negociate, to be good friends.
13. the numbers don't make sense
Ariel ,   US   (07.21.11)
Something is wrong with the numbers. Written above: "a 5% drop was recorded in the traditional-non-Jewish population (55,000)". If 5% is 55,000 then the total traditional non-Jewish population of Jerusalem is 1,100,000. Absurd! Othyer nuimbers also problematic!
14. #11: the seculars are not the same
david ,   new york   (07.21.11)
david ben gurion had religious knowledge and jewish identity. the seculars of today have no jewish identity, no zionism and do not want to be in israel (of course, they are already there so most don't go through the effort of leaving). there are almost no zionists today who are not religious.
15. Be'ezrat HaShem we will ALL GROW
Yochanan ,   Y'layim   (07.21.11)
In quantity (yes, also ''the seculars'' = our fellow Jews!!) but mainly qualitively-wise! AM YISRAEL CHAI
16. # 9 The seculars
J.K. ,   Brooklyn USA   (07.21.11)
Only control the submarines and the Air Force, small change.
17. Terrible news for Haim, Avi and Charles.
(07.21.11)
18. 17 Charles is defending religious...
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (07.21.11)
Jews in foreign media with a Jewish heart. Alevai that Haim and Avi would be on the same level as Charles.
19. Stop throwing sand in our eyes, Gabriel
Ben ,   Tel Aviv   (07.21.11)
Whenever the media says anything about the rise of the religious populations, there's always someone like Gabriel from TA to say that they do nothing but pray for Israel's security. BS, Gabriel. Read the article today about the huge numbers of religious guys in IDF combat officers' training! They think Judaism says to pray for success of your military efforts. May their numbers grow indeed!
20. Idiotic religious
Kalina ,   Petach Tikva   (07.21.11)
Of course the religious population is growing- for every religious nutcase there's his invisible friend. People need to get over their psychotic delusions and realise that fairy tales are for kids. I find it genuinely disturbing that there are people in charge of this country who believe in talking snakes and whales which can spew out live human beings.
21. Religious people have families, athiests have abortions
Sean Green ,   Pasadena, USA   (07.21.11)
It's why Europe is shrinking and Latin America is growing.
22. #11
Susie McDowell ,   Tampa, Florida   (07.22.11)
Go back to gan and learn your Zionist history. The "seculars" didn't build the country, they usurped it from the religious. All the "Myths & Facts" statistics "proving" Jewish resident numbers in pre-independence Israel are based on the exclusive religious population in the 4 holy cities; Jerusalem, Hebron, Tevaria and Tzefat. Your "chiloni" baloney is to use the religious when it's beneficial.
23. Kalina's oh so qlev vah snipe
David ariel ,   Jerusalem   (07.25.11)
How long did it take to compose such an elegant sneer? I too find something genuinely disturbing:- that such cuteness is still voguish. Give it time, and the need to be nasty might fade. There is still hope for you Kalina.
