1. where's the left wing uproar now?
Dee ,   Israel   (07.18.11)
what? no protests? no flotilla for human rights? In Israel, these kind of basic human rights are allowed... I'd like to see this happen in a muslim country...

You must have read my mind. But what's particularly galling about these left-wing hypocrites is not only wouldn't any Muslim country extend the same rights to gays that Israel does, but just being a homosexual in countries like Iran or in the Palestinian Authority can potentially put your life in jeopardy.
5. good for him
david ,   jerusalem   (07.18.11)
but there's something i don't get: why is it important to note the "non-jewish" part? who cares about religion anymore? are there still civilized people who knows how to read that still believes in the friend in the sky? i recommen

any way you look at it. There are much better people- men married to women raising their children in a PROPER home- to represent this Jewish country. I think it is n abomination, a disgrace. a sad sd dayfor Israel

Its a beautiful thing that israel is way ahead of most countries and that same sex marriage is legal and that israel does not discriminate against ones sexual preference. Be proud of israel for it. Most american and european leftist activists do not even know this about israel, and if they heard it, they don't believe it. Because any country that has legalized same sex marriage, takes human rights very seriously. And julie and laura, I just wanna rub ove more thing in your face, israel helps same sex couples with money while trying to have a surrogate to have a baby for them. In most countries its too expensive for couples to do this but not in israel, they help you. What a mitvah!!!! I love israel and ive never been more proud of israel. Jake Sarna
9. #1 Dee - You would NEVERS SEE IT
BEN JABO ,   ISRAEL   (07.19.11)
in a Muslim country, as soon as they revealed themselves, a pile of stones would be waiting for them, end of relationship, end of life & end of story

11. Great News
WadiAra ,   Karkur ,Israel   (07.19.11)
What great news! It's so nice to know there are some people in the government with sense and sensitivity. I only this same decision could be extended to others without diplomatic status. I feel sorry for those who see a same-sex life-style as an abomination. Do they see the recent law condemning criticism of Israel the same way?

chaim witz   (07.19.11)
We do not need to worry about palestinians, iranians, or the hezbolah. We know how to defend ourselves against these. The greatest threat against the existance of the state of Israel is JEWS!

Sorry dude, there is no same-sex marriage in Israel. There is no civil marriage; so same-sex marriage is a long way off. Exhale, relax and return to the land of facts!

Now let's recognise Gay Marriage.

Eric ,   Toronto   (07.19.11)
Well Laura and Julie, I guess it's very hard for you to accept that some of us men, to be happy, do not need sexual intimacy with women ...specially with women of your type!
19. Bravo!
j ,   usa   (07.19.11)
this is the proper and humane action to take. Gee... where would you rather live as a gay person- Gaza, Iran, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, etc? Why aren't all the anti - Israel protesters protesting about the fact that to be gay in any of the countries of which they think so highly, is to risk ones life?

Abie Dee ,   New York, U.S   (07.19.11)
For all those having 'kniptions' over this news...calm down, take a deep breath. Israel can be a country for both religious AND secular Jews. If not, it'll be no different than Iran...except with kipot...Ve'ahavta lereacha kamocha....

Mark ,   Jerusalem   (07.19.11)
#7 let me just point out to you that there are many couples, that is men and women who don't know how to bring there children up, just may be this child may get better treatment than many other children. It does not mean that because both his parents are gay that he will be,

I guess I would qualify as a left-winger. The problem, NYC Girl, is that this is special treatment for some. Most other families encounter problems if one of the spouses is not Jewish. For example, a friend of mine married to an Asian woman will be relocating to Canada soon, because his wife (after two Israel-born children and 4 years of marriage is still living on a temporary visa - not a citizen). And if you want a specifically gay story - there is right now an article in "Forward" about how Shas-controlled Interior Ministry is denying citizen-status to a gay husband of a Jewish immigrant (they were married in Canada). So, I'm glad for the ambassador and his partner, but let's be honest here - many a couple is living with one passport and one temporary visa just because these people are non-Jews and Shas doesn't like it.
26. Good news and good luck
