2. Die?
Ypip ,   Canada   (07.20.11)
3. till this moment
fad egypt   (07.20.11)
i cant believe the sitution in which mubarak is living in mubarak is considered the best president who led egypt he was far better than nasser and sadat but at the end of the day i cant blame anyone but hussein obama who has thrown him under the bus and betrayed him in favor of the islamists today egypt is on the verge of collapse the economy is destroyed the GDP has decreased from 5.5 billion dollars to 1.5 billion dollars and i dont know where the country is heading to thanks to hussein obama who lacks the courage and will to stop the real dictator bashar elassad (the reformer) from killing his people hussein obama is the worst mistake in the history of the US lets hope that he will be out by 2012 say amen shalom
4. I agree. Let him die in peace.

5. This is incredulous
Lennybruce ,   amsterdam, NL   (07.20.11)
Since when do whatever 'good deeds' someone did (after all even the most heinous criminals/dictators will have done some good deeds) excuse that person's deeply criminal behavior? How will all the mothers feel who's sons were extrajudicially tortured and killed by Mubarak's henchmen? Or the perhaps $7 billion the man stole from his people? This article is such sentimental garbage for an outsider. If an Egyptian wants to say these things he or she has earned that right after suffering at the man's hands directly or indirectly. For an Israeli to say these things, likely because this mad egotistical dictator was a friend of Israel's, is disgusting!
6. Mubarak's achievements??
graczek ,   Maryland, USA   (07.20.11)
What were they? His main "achievement" was continuing the perfidy against the battle to free all of Palestine, known as the "Sadat Sellout". Mubarak shall be tried and punished to the full extent of the law to which he is subject.
7. The Egyptian People Disagree
Benjamin ,   Tel Aviv   (07.20.11)
The Egyptian people loathe Mubarak. They think he was a corrupt dictator whose regime caused years of stagnation and oppression in Egypt. They are correct, of course, and whether we like it or not, the next leader of Egypt will have to reflect that consensus. It would be very very foolish of us to wax nostalgic about Mubarak. Instead, we have to adjust to the new reality in Egypt and try to make it work for us.
8. Let Mubarak die in peace !
Barbara ,   Haifa Israel   (07.20.11)
And I agree to TB # 3 Fad in Egypt - Obama should take full blame for the ruination of a nation. As soon as he persuaded Mubarak to step down, there was anarchy. A window will open in the government authority whereby only the Muslim Brotherhood will suddenly and probably (but only temporarily) provide economic relief in order to gain control.
9. #3 - Amen, Fad, and you hit the nail on the head.

10. let him die in peace
anton ,   istanbul turkey   (07.20.11)
because he was good dictator for israel you guys really is world most moral society also :)
11. Bloodlust in Egypt
leo ,   nyc   (07.20.11)
Yes the rabble in Egypt would be all to happy to hang Mubarak on a streetcorner in Cairo...and then they would have to come to grips with the chaos the "Arab Spring" has created for them...of course, there's always Israel to blame for their pathetic existence...
12. COMPARING TYRANTS
Ian ,   Newcastle upon Tyne   (07.20.11)
Basically,Jihad al-Khazen says that Mubarak is the best of a bad bunch;an opinion that is hardly a recommendation. However you present it doesn't change the reality that the Egyptian people have been ruled by successive tyrants who have used them and Egypt's resources in their own interests. THREE CHEERS FOR ISRAEL!!!
13. #3 Mubarak stabbed in the back by Obama
Speedball ,   Toledo Ohio USA   (07.21.11)
Believe me, we can't wait to get rid of Obama. This self worshiping ego maniac is a trator not only to allies of the US such as Egypt and Israel, he is a trator to the very country which elected him. Liberal minded Americans are easily deceived and tricked, which is exactly what the Obama campaign and the liberal media did. Many of us conservatives tried to warn the country but they were too deaf to hear. I sincerely apologize for the evil President Obama has caused to happen in the Middle East. He is a trator to everyone except himself and his puppet master George Soros. I pray Mubarak find his peace.
14. peace !!
delirious ,   Egypt   (07.21.11)
die in peace !! u dont no wat he did 2 his ppl me my self my father was imprisoned 4 NO reasons at all and hes an engineer by the power of emergency law 4 his political views
15. Sympathy for a dictator?
Nagi ,   United States   (07.21.11)
Let him die in peace? Really? I'm sure the Egyptian citizens that were tortured to death for their political views would beg to differ. Why not write an article about the good deeds of Stalin next?
16. #5
Yaron ,   USA   (07.21.11)
Hey Dude.....I think the article was pointing out that a prominent Arab columnist was the one writing this so keep your disgust to yourself and worry about clearing the streets of Islamists in Amsterdam as much as you worry about the disgust that comes from Israeli writers.
17. Just like european jews should let the nazis die in peace???
Egyptian   (07.21.11)
Jihad al khazen is nothing but a fake journalist who recieves his paycheck from the saudi royal family. He writes what the dictators in those kingdoms have as policy. The fact that he want a bloody murderer to die in peace prooves that he is a liar when he claims that he hasent spared mubarak harsh words, as he never dared to criticize mubarak when he was in power just like he doesnt dare to write a single negative word about the arab fake kingdoms who torture and kill people all the time. Moreover, Nobody has a right to tell us what to do or not to do. Certainly not israel or your liberal zionist media!! Mubarak and his regime took egypt back 100 years. What achievements did he achieve? Raping men and women? Being corrupt? Allowing rapists to go free? Torturing people? Keeping the poor areas poor while tourist places are beautiful for foreigners to enjoy? The list of his crimes is so long. And quite frankly we dont need to explain anything to you. How dare you tell us to let this satanic demon man die in peace when he showed no mercy for the poor and constantly tortured people (had his men torture them) to death in the most brutal ways!!!!!
18. Egyptian talkbackers have made harsh statements
miri ,   israel   (07.21.11)
re Mubarak's regime. I suppose I have not to feel too sorry for the man with whom I previously sympathized. True I believe he was good for Israel although he never once stepped a foot on our soil, which in a way is strange - a rather cold friendship.

Mubarak was in Israel to attend the funeral of Yitzchak Rabin, in Jerusalem.
20. to nr. 8.
world-resident ,   world/planet earth   (07.21.11)
i should not speak of anarchy (in egypt). i should speak of chaos/disorder. the chaos in egypt was caused first and formost by hosni mubarak and his dictatorial regime and by his predecessors. hopely not the same will happen to egypt and to other arabic and muslim countries as what happened to iran in 1979.
21. #5, #10 typical headline readers.
Tahl   (07.21.11)
Had the two of you actually bothered to read the entire article instead of just the headline, you'd have seen that the sympathy for Mubarak was not written by Smadar Peri, but quoted by an Egyptian journalist, Jihad al-Khazen! Also, you'd have read the part where this journalist spares no criticism on Mubarak, but explains that although Mubarak was far from perfect, then in COMPARISON to Egypt's previous dictators, he was the best.
22. Unbelievable!
Reiny ,   Beirut, Lebanon   (07.22.11)
Of all people in the world, I would have expected that an Israeli writer would value democracy for what it's worth. And the Egyptian people certainly did not have democracy under Mubarak. If the man, as this article claims, worked only two hours a day and fainted often during his last year in power, why then did he cling to it till the very end and cause even more bloodshed?
