It's not strange to apply for Political Asylum and also try to fly to London. A desperate person grasps at all straws! Help this man!
2. re: "it is strange" etc

If Israel is a democratic country that value basic liberties, it will not hesitate to make sure that person has a fair and quick review regardless of his religion and similar factors. It is bizarre how many Israelis have utterly forgotten favors that were done for Jews in the past by people who went against local authorities. It should be easy for a competent person to review his story quickly and find it either substantially true or substantially false, regardless whether he would also be willing to settle in the U.K. or anywhere else.
3. Yes, it IS strange.....BUT
Israeli 2   (07.25.11)
under the circumstances, this man is desparate. He is very much afraid that Israel's good relations with Russia would jeopardize his request for assylum in Israel. So he wants to make certain that if Israel rejects him, he may have England. That's all.
4. Hilarious..while the uber stupid yuoot of TA

protest housing costs, others are running to Israel to save their ass. These uber stupid yuoot havent got a clue as to whats going on in this world. They should thank their lucky stars that they live in a country that is safe, has plenty of food, water, beautiful women and lots of sunshine. Have any of these moron dopey kids ever been to Winnipeg in the winter?

How can it be that the Russian authority let him travel if they are accusing him of such rebellious reporting? I would think he wouldn't be able to leave Russia. Also what about his family - doesn't he worry about them and they getting the backlash instead of him? I smell a fish.

Because Russia's long hand doesn't reach into Israel too easily and because in Israel you can get along fine with speaking only Russian.
11. He's not Arithrean, hence no leftist lobby for him. And #6
Tahl   (07.25.11)
Had this poor journalist been Arithrean or Sudanese, the ARDC, the New Israel Fund, or some other foreign-funded liberast organization would have clamored to give this man asylum. But he's just Russian, hence no lobby for him... And #6: this man has never been formally charged with anything, since he didn't commit any crime. He was being bullied and threatened for exposing corruption in the legal system, but the authorities could not provide a legal reason to keep him inside Russia. Or maybe he escaped before they could bring up whatever beaurocratic barrier they could find against him.
