1. It's all Netanyahu's fault.
Terry ,   Eilat - Israel   (07.25.11)
See, before Netanyahu became PM, Israel was a paradise. Appartments were almost for free, readily available in your favourite neighborhood, next to all your favourite pubs, trendy cafes, & night clubs. Then Netanyahu became PM & overnight, everything changed. Suddenly, there is a housing crisis. Isn't that remarkable?
2. they don't want subsidized WB housing
observer ,   Egypt   (07.25.11)
they want true Lebensraum
3. #1: Well said Terry!
D avid ,   Karmiel, Israel   (07.25.11)
Netanyahu's Israel is for the rich and the rest must serve and toe the line! Once Israel was called the land of milk and honey. Now the milk is too expensive, honey is not as sweet and the police video doctors and interns trying to protest for better conditions so that the people of this country can get the medical treatment that they are entitled to. In Netanyahu's Israel, the sick must die unless they are rich and can go overseas for treatment, and the old and handicapped must just fade away and not be a burden on on the country. This of course excludes the Hraedim who will get everything they want at the expense of others. Even a Haredi Minister who caused the deaths of 42 people in the Carmel fire by his greed and negligence has been allowed to get away with his actions by Netanyahu in his lust for power!
4. BTW over 70% of Israelis are appartment
tanya ,   tel aviv israel   (07.25.11)
owners. In the US the rate is 67%, in Germany - 43%, in Denmark around50%. So situation is not THAT bad. The left is cynically uses temporal housing crises, hiding behind "Dor Shalem Doresh Diyur." Remember "Dor Shalem Doresh Shalom?"
5. I love you Israel!!!!
Monica   (07.25.11)
good people fighting for the future of their children!
6. I see these paid aggitators know how to build
Al   (07.25.11)
Seems to me they are having a tantrum and in any modern stste were they to storm a parliment the police woud wack em and stack em. Could it be that they are sons and daughters of some MK's that the police are being so nice. Were they mere nationalist youth or religious the police would have been busting their heads in a nanosecound. I'd like to know.
7. #3,David. Stop spreading lies and demagogy!
tanya ,   tel aviv israel   (07.25.11)
First of all it is a LIE that poor people die here untreated. The Health Care System in Israel is pretty good and unexpensive and no need to go abroad, Israel is one of the world centres of the medical tourism. My girlfriend pays around 2000$ a month for health care ins. for 4 people in NJ. How much do you pay, if you really live here? Second, it is a LIE that Haredi Heath Minister was the cause of 42 deaths. Allow me to remind you it was an arson. And third don't allow yourself be lead by the nose by people like Dafni Lef, a current protest organiser, who comes from the wealthiest TA suburb Kfar Shmariahu and I seriously doubt her priority is milk, honey or housing prices.
8. Problem 10 years in the making and Bibi gets the heat
Eric ,   Tel Aviv & NY   (07.25.11)
Housing trends have been building for at least 10 years, with builders building the more expensive larger apartments that municipalities want. These are too expensive for young people because the municipalities want large established tax payers. Then came the world recession when a lot of projects were canceled or stopped. Now it will take years to build new apartments even if they were approved for construction and started today. Not realistic demands will lead people nowhere. Target municipalities who wanted 4-6 room apartments over 2-3 room ones. Who want multi-million dollar apartments and penthouses for the high tax and low cost to the municipality. Think about it 1 full floor apartment is 1/4 the municipal work load, number of students in schools, etc. than 4 affordable ones.
9. The real housing crisis is in the Arab Sector
Rami of Nazareth ,   Israel   (07.25.11)
The Arab sector have been suffering for years from shortage in appartments. None of our appeals and demonstrations helped. The crisis continues.
