1. with a major diffetence
Arie ,   BaGolan   (07.27.11)
The police are not murdering the dempnstrators as they would in a muslim state
2. There is one major diffrence
Someone ,   Somewhere   (07.27.11)
In Israel the protest is not about removing dictators that rule the country for decades , we have elections here every few years, all our politicians are equally incompetent , so what happens if we replace likud with kadima ? weren't kadima are the ones that were in charge during the gaza op in 2009 ?
3. Aljazeera is confused
Nicola Simmonds ,   Tel Aviv, Israel   (07.27.11)
Pressuring a government into action or into calling early elections is all part of the democratic process and is really not the same as toppling a regime.
4. History tells it all
rinah Dreyer   (07.27.11)
If the report from Al Jazeera is correct, this saddens me a great deal, because Israel is called to be the light of the World and the salt of the Earth. We cannot follow the rest of the world for what would happen to the world when the light goes out? Great darkness will descend; much like what happened when Israel was delivered from the tyranny of Egypt. The rest is history.
5. Arabs seem to think they invented protest
Aharon   (07.27.11)
In democracies, we the people oppose and protest against the government regularly. There is no "Arab model" - delusions of grandeur notwithstanding. You just learned how to protest for the first time.
6. i dont know...
oren   (07.27.11)
Yes you can draw similarities between the protests in Israel and those around the middle east but the huge difference is, and its a highly significant one, that israel has not been ruled by dictatorship autocratic regime for decades who have suppressed its people for years and years...i think theres no doubt that no matter what has happened in neighboring countries these protests in israel would still have happened, people have been complaining about these issues for years, but then again i wonder if the size of the protests now in israel hasnt been as a result of other protests in the m e
7. *rolling on the floor laughing*
Mark ,   J-lem   (07.27.11)
Arabs forgot to mention several other protests, "inspired" by "Arab spring": - 1984. Bob Geldof - Music Journalist inspired by Arab spring (not african famine epidemic) organized "LIFE AID" concert. - 1976. Betty Williams - A receptionist and mother of two - inspired by Arab spring (not witnessing death of three children) Organized 10,000 people march for peace. And a week later 35,000 people strong. - 1961. Peter Benenson - A British lawyer inspired by Arab spring (not because of the imprisonment of two Portugal students) organized rally of support which turned out later into Amnesty international. - 1920 A Boy from a small South African village dreamed of an Arab spring in his country and after years of activism he was charged with "political treason", sentenced to life in prison. In 1990, after 27 years in prison Nelson Mandela was released and became First South African Elected President!!! We should all thank Arabs for what they did. Because THEY OPENED OUR EYES TO THE WORLD PROBLEMS.
8. Why is this a problem?
Yakov ,   Tel Aviv   (07.27.11)
Both of us are humans. From very different worlds and beliefs. But, most want the best for ourselves and our families. Maybe we forget this sometimes. Maybe we should remind each other, more often.
9. Can I just say this? Arabs are idiots!
William ,   Israel   (07.27.11)
Why is it that Arabs always believe they know the "how" and "why" of Israeli actions and Israeli opinions? Arabs constantly make assumptions about Israelis, most without ever meeting one or even meeting a Jew, and claiming it's fact. No wonder the Arab world is flush with mis-directed protests, faultering economies, and mass deaths - their grip on reality isn't very good. I heard a good news article in which an Egyptian civil rights activist (older) said the continued protests in Tahrir square were absolutely useless and the protesters' demands were unreasonable. This comes from a man with experience of life as opposed to a bunch of young, naive, impressionable kids who are the next generation of Arabs living more in fantasy than reality.
10. It is the human nature!
Bassem ,   Cairo, Egypt   (07.27.11)
I agree with Yakov #8.
11. arab delusion?
daniel ,   israel   (07.27.11)
umm, what? Israelis complain, and have been complaining, and staging protests for a long, long time.
12. #3 - Arabs live in a bubble, they've never experienced this
William ,   Israel   (07.27.11)
Democracy is new to them. The fact they can protest is so amazing that they completed missed the point that others have been doing this for decades. The Arab hubris takes over and they need to feel as if they were the catalyst for world change (in a positive way). Egyptians still claim 1973 war was a victory. Arabs still claim they were the inventors of algebra and medical advancements. Neither based in reality.
13. #4 - actually it was Israel who inspired Arabs
William ,   Israel   (07.27.11)
Israel, as despised by the Arab world as it is, is often admired for its democracy and rule of law. In a rare moment Arabs wrote editorials which applauded the introspective report by the IDF and govt on the Lebanon War. They also applauded the investigations of Olmert and Katsav because no one was above the law. Then they asked - where is our investigations of corrupt leaders? where is our Winograd report? Israel has been launching these type of self-investigative reports for years, and though many Arab leaders consider them proof of Israeli failure, many admit this is proof of Israeli strength and democracy. And if those "Zionists" can do it, why can't Arabs?
14. #5 - Arab model = protest with a twist
William ,   Israel   (07.27.11)
The Arab model is just like regular Western protests, except they add mass arrests, sniper fire into crowds, rape, and then ultimate blame for it on someone else.
15. Arab protesters were inspired by Israelis' quality of life
Global Citizen ,   Israel & USA   (07.27.11)
"If people in that tiny country could succeed, why can't we"?
16. Ridiculous
Reuven ,   Herzlia Israel   (07.27.11)
Just because activists in Tel Aviv say the present demos in Israel are inspired by the so-called Arab spring, does not make it true. We HAVE a democracy and are exercising it. The Arabs are not even at the starting line. Besides, this is not our first protest. Remember, just for example, the Black Panthers, anyone?
17. wrong again.......!
tiki ,   belgium   (07.27.11)
There where 'demonstrations in Israel and all over the 'free world forever. Now that the Arabs, for the first time in their life, protest in their own countries for 'democratic rights and not 'against Israel, what their usual demo's were about (and probably will be again in the not to far future), they think they've invented it. Wake up guys, you didn't.
18. FRAYERIM! egyptian got nothing
STEPHAN ,   YAFFO   (07.27.11)
and so will you
19. Lots Of Denial
LebanonPride ,   Canada   (07.27.11)
He isn't saying we invented demonstrations, just that the timing of your protests was influenced by Arabs. But also like he said, you're too embarassed to admit it. Which is strange. But whatever. The protesters already admitted it. So, keep denying.
20. SO Israel need to kill 20 protester a day to do it rigth?
Gayray ,   Israel   (07.27.11)
Looks to me that the Israeli didnt understand well the system. They have to kill 20 to 30 protesters a day to be succesful. If this is the arab praud?? Is this what the export to the world? Maybe they need to study to know that even Abraham did a protest when the angels where to his way to destroy Sodoma.
21. CIA involvement
Joe cone ,   USA   (07.27.11)
Debka is reporting possible foreign goverment in these protest. Israel must expose this if it is happening. Israel needs more houseing but this is foreign inspired and I am confident the Israeli people will see through this.
22. First hummus and falafel
Abdalla   (07.27.11)
NOw the Arab spring Israel steals all its ideas
23. #19 - actually, he isn't saying that either
William ,   Israel   (07.27.11)
And this is one man's opinion which was taken by some Arab reporter to mean all of Israel are enamored with Arab protests. I believe you mentioned in a post on another article that only the killers are responsible for the Fogel family murder, not the entire nation which helped to hide the killers and make excuses. Please do tell - how is this teenager suddenly a spokesperson for the State of Israel? The timing of the protests really have nothing to do with Arab protests anymore than the spark that started in Tunisia had anything to do with protests in Greece. It was a group of kids sick of high prices for housing in Tel Aviv that started the protest and others joined. It happened in the bubble of the Israeli economy. The only denial here is that Arabs are as special as you claim yourselves to be. Reality hurts, doesn't it?
24. Arab invention garbs in infantile fantasy
Avram Goldsmith ,   Toronto, Canada   (07.27.11)
What about Greek, Italy, Spain and other Europenian country demonstration. The Arab so call spring revolt generate some thounds of inoccents people to be killed , came very late in time, economical disaster and bottom line no substantial change has occured, just haos which will bring to an another dictatorialship.
25. @9> Mizrahi Jews.are arabs,shame on U
Abu Ali   (07.27.11)
In recent decades the term has come back into some usage by Jews who self-identify as Arab Jews, such as Albert Memmi, a Zionist who uses the term to claim his rights in the Middle East, and Ella Shohat, an anti-Zionist who uses the term in contrast to the Zionist establishment's categorization of Jews as either Ashkenazim or Mizrahim; the latter, she believes, have been oppressed as the Arabs have. Other public figures who refer to themselves as Arab Jews include David Shasha, Director of the Center for Sephardic Heritage, and Amiel Alcalay, a professor at Queens College in New York who began emphasizing the importance of his identity as an Arab Jew in the 1990s.[2] André Azoulay, Jewish adviser to Moroccan King Mohammed VI, also defines himself as an Arab Jew,[3] as does Sasson Somekh in a recent memoir, are they idiots too?!
26. To the bigots
Argh ,   Tel Aviv   (07.27.11)
The protests in Egypt started with a few tents in Tahir Square that after a month mothballed into a mass protest movement. That's the similarity. Gevalt, that WE the MIGHTY Jews might be inspired by something foreign..... oh wait, democracy? Isn't that a goy invention? Sheesh.
27. It just shows we're all sisters and brothers of humanity!
Isacc ,   Israel   (07.27.11)
PEACE and LOVE from Israe:)
28. ME family !!! change it's on it's way!!!
Shalom ,   ISRAEL   (07.27.11)
thank you for your inspiration! will take the lead from here! now all that we need to do after that is to make peace. we hope our palestinian brothers from the ME family are willing to give peace a chance too!!
29. @Aaron #5 The Arab invention
Arie ,   BaGolan   (07.27.11)
The Muslims didn't invent the protest. They simply perfected the ability to masacre those that do.
30. #26 - you have the term "bigot" confused
William ,   Israel   (07.28.11)
You might get the "tent" connection (oh you're so smart) but clearly the Arab writer exaggerated the connection greatly to build in additional aspects to the story that weren't there. That's what posters here have issue with. It's not a racist thing or something against Arabs, it's called being true to facts. Israeli culture has a lot of inspiration from Arab culture. However, let's call a spade a spade. People in Israel are protesting for their own reason, not because Arabs did it. Now go look up the word "naive" and repeat it in the mirror 20 times.
