Go to your public library and get a book called "The Millionaire next door" by Thomas J. Stanley (there may be translations to languages other than english, I don't really know...). "Wealth is what you accumulate, not what you spend", says the author, and he's right. We here, in North America and in Israel and in Europe are facing an economic crisis at a scale we never faced before. And why? Because we all want to live "the American dream", a fantasy that was sold to us by Hollywood, the media and cunning PR specialists. It is hard to admit to the simple fact that we all want to live way way way BEYOND our means but it is also a catalyst for change. The Israeli government CANNOT give away FREE housing to all Israelis. it is just unrealistic to even demand it. Ofcourse, helping the poor and the weak should be a priority, but so should be economic responsibility. The revolution that will REALY benefit Israel, the US, and the rest of the world is a revolution of mentality, of the way we think, of our priorities and our responsibilities. Please read the book. It has changed my life and my family's. If you cannot find it in a library, look for it on websites that sell books or try to get it in audio. i know most of you will not even bother, but still, maybe this will help some who are really looking for solutions...

who is really behind this demonstartion. where is the money coming from ? we will be surprised when this is answered. let all leftists and secular jews from telaviv and all the affluent areas in israel rent to these marches . kind of reminds be of the liberal jews in usa who dont want to live or rent to people who dont have money or are of a lower economic class
5. Oh you kids are so practical
Margaret ,   U.S.   (07.27.11)
Ah that's why I love the true Israeli youth, this generation, their so practical. Putting Bibi's flat up for sale, so ingenuous, LMAO Its is really, really, really hard not to love these Young brave Jews,,,, take my breath away. The Arabs may have had their Arab Spring but this, this will set a world precedent because the greedy elite and rich in Israel are so many not like one greedy despot filthy rich leader of a country. And Housing in Gods house its phenomenal.

hmmmm, did you know that 2010 saw the fastest growth in millionaires since the 1990s. That's right faster than the tech boom. what does that say about capitalism and "accumulating"? i've got another book i highly recommend you read called "das kapital". its been translated into many languages, including english, and its analysis of capitalism, even according to milton friedman, is as accurate as ever even after 150-years

ITS UNBELIEVABLE @6 Re'heally I was, am thinking your exact thoughts almost word for word even right down to Das Kapital, kind of freaky, and I was trying to post but you beat me to it, wow somethings happening in this world of ours and I'm in New York. And its hard economically here in Manhattan, very hard, and very expensive to rent or buy, hope this movement in Israel the land of God changes things here.

Shiry ,   Israel   (07.27.11)
Dear J, while I agree with you that the government cannot give away free housing and people cannot just live off the government and should work I think many "middle class" Israelis who work hard and are educated intelligent people feel themselves constantly going backward instead of seeing at least some fruits to their labor. The cost of living in Israel rises constantly and we are paying more and more and receiving less and less. Take education for instance- once Israel's pride is declining at a alarming rate - Israel's is not investing enough in human resources and we do not have many other resources to rely on. For those parents who can afford it (and even those who cannot) extra money is spent on private teachers and extra curricular activities. The housing issue is just the tip of the iceberg. When someone works hard all day to provide for his/her family they want to know that they can come home to a safe place even if they are paying a mortgage however that mortgage should be reasonable and other expenses should not be so exaggerated that will allow a person to live with a little bit of self respect. instead of pulling downward.

13. SUGGESTION TO LOWER RENTS
orli ,   jerusalem   (07.28.11)
As 65 year old husband and wife with 30 year old daughter living together...ALL WORKING JUST TO COVER THE RENT AND FOOD...I have thought of what might work. IS THIS A LEGAL POSSIBILITY??: Legislate an across the board immediate rent cut of 20% - to remain the same for 3 years (rent control) After 3 years rents can raise 1 or 2% every certain amont of time until a ceiling price is acessed. ANY CHANCE OF DEVELOPING THIS INTO AN IMMEDIATE WORKING PARTIAL SOLUTION?
