1. I think it will be very much benficial for Israel to refuse
leo ,   usa   (07.27.11)
US help at least until US fiscal problems are not resolved. $3B is very little sum, but symbolism of it will be enormous.
2. This is American patriotism?
LebanonPride ,   Canada   (07.27.11)
Funding Israel despite being in an economic toilet. Who runs the US, the government or AIPAC?
3. That is less than 3% of the money
citizen ,   finland   (07.28.11)
used in Israel. US is just making sure Israel will stay on it's side. And it is a fact that Israel is pretty good doing high tech that US loves.
4. #2 - oh, ye of simple mind
William ,   Israel   (07.28.11)
Almost all aid to Israel stays inside the US. It's a giant stimulus package which does help average Americans, and thus is very patriotic. Your ilk always miss this key point which makes you look like hacks when you bring it up. Conversely, money for the "Palestinians" and other Arab sewer holes leaves the US never to return. US support for UNWRA and other useless departments is way too much and not supported by a majority of Americans. and in return, Arabs burn American flags, attack Americans, and curse Americans. During 9/11, "Palestinians" handed out candies and celebrated while Israelis stood in line for blocks to donate blood to the US. Americans applauded some members of Congress who sought to end funding to the "Palestinians" and the UN. Now that's patriotism.
5. To #2 Yes it is indeed
John ,   Alaska   (07.28.11)
The aid provided to Israel is conditioned on Israel spending it on US products. This aid guarantees jobs for Americans. Also, you said: "Who runs the US, the government or AIPAC?" Our government is a republic, and the Legislature thereof is elected by the people and govern only with the consent thereof. Who runs the US? American citizens. Foreign countries, for example Canada and Lebanon, are on the rather lengthy list of who does NOT run the US.
6. At least until the end of 2012.That's when
Israeli 2   (07.28.11)
the Anunnaki come.
7. That 3 billion should go towards creating US jobs instead
christianpalestinian ,   hong kong   (07.28.11)
The US continues to mismanage its money and maintain blind support for israel, in complete contrast to the outside world.
8. To #7 your concern is answered above
John ,   Alaska   (07.28.11)
Please see talkbacks #4 and #5. Aid to Israel means jobs for the US. Also, I asked you this in a talkback thread a couple of weeks ago, but it is easy to miss these: Because Jesus prophecied the diaspora followed by the restoration of Jerusalem to the Jews (Luke 21:23-24), why not rejoice in Israel's rebirth in fulfillment of New Testament prophecies? As I said when I asked you this before, I ask this with all respect. Your posts seem angry and sad, and I hope that this perspective, of Israel's existence as fulfillment of Jesus' words, can give you hope.
9. #2 and #7
moomoo ,   USA   (07.28.11)
I Agree. The U.S. should cut aid to Lebanon, Egypt and Pakistan. There is no return economical or political. A waste of money. I can't believe we give money to these enemies.
10. Foreign Aid
Mark ,   USA   (07.28.11)
Israel has one of the strongest, most durable economies in the world at this point. Israel is now a part of the OECD. Israel needs to stop acting like America's child, and politely refuse the money. Remember, this money comes with strings! Israel will have much more leeway to do what they have to do, and not always kowtow to America's interests.
11. To those who don’t understand Israel’s added value-
Stephen in New York   (07.28.11)
Israel does things nobody else does; Israel creates things nobody else creates. All these precedents are shared with the US.
12. #7 - it already does. The Pally aid doesn't
William ,   Israel   (07.28.11)
Aid to the "Palestinians" is cash that goes straight Fatah and Hamas, with even more cash going to UNWRA which keeps your countrymen "refugees" for over 6 decades. Israeli aid helps keep 5000 families in their homes.
13. ##2 american patriotism
dr.joji cherian ,   aluva, india   (07.28.11)
americans are not patriotic enough. they should have raised the quantum of money.i wonder why no bipartisan resolution was introduced in the congress to this effect
14. I can not afford lunch....
Hardworking Tax Pay ,   US   (07.28.11)
and yet you israeli have free lunch on me....
15. #7 it sure does
courtney ,   usa   (07.28.11)
the aid money must be spent on american products so it does in fact help "create" american jobs... dont worry, its all going to lockhead, norhtrop, and the rest of the military industry
16. "Gonna be awhole lot of shacking going on"
Enosh ,   Country   (07.28.11)
At number six, you may be on to something and these won't be the Fallen ones who descended to mate with the daughters of men.
17. That money DOES save American jobs!
jgarbuz ,   jgarbuz@netzero.com   (07.28.11)
That money does NOT go to Israel. That money goes to Boeing, Lockheed and other US defense companies to pay their workers who build jets, helicopters, and even Arrow II antiballistic missiles designed in Israel but manufactured in the US. And it does not only aid ISrael, but aids the US military which gains considerable technological feedback from Israelis who improve the US hardware and software in many ways. That is why there is little opposition. It is aid that keeps US jobs and strengthens both the IDF and US military.
18. Israel should slowly reduce!
Ben ,   Chutzlaaretz   (07.28.11)
Israel should slowly reduce how much "aid" we get from the US, but this is a bad year to do it. With unemployment at 9+%, a sudden reduction is Israel's purchases of US arms, would really put a hurt on Americans in many states, but especially Washington, and the Carolinas. As notes above, the aid is really an American employment stimulous package which Israel should start not being part of, just not now. It might sound good and feel good, but the net affect on the American economy would be the complete opposite. However, if Obummer puts on too much heat, than by all means, lets refuse all the aid and see how he likes the impact on his unemployment numbers. It's time to tell the truth! Aid to Israel in the form of loan gaurentees and grants is really aid to American workers.
19. Blessings
David ,   TN USA   (07.28.11)
Something is better than nothing. We are a particular people here in the USA. We chose to bless Israel, and there is no better people to bless. We will see a return on this blessing. David
20. I hope Israel gets more
Abdalla   (07.28.11)
If the USA is so stupid to give more
21. Mark @ 10, money is not a leeway. UNSC veto power is.
leo ,   usa   (07.28.11)
22. What other side is there, #3?
Cameron ,   USA   (07.28.11)
We are the ONLY game in town for the Israelis. There are no other options, my foolish Finn. None.
23. #14
Korem ,   New York, USA   (07.28.11)
You idiot. Not only does the aid money actually stimulate the US economy by subsidizing defense purchases, but the average hardworking Israelis are CERTAINLY having a tougher time affording lunch than the average hardworking America, the current protests and housing crisis being case in point.
24. #14 well someone has to pay for the illegal settlements
Haim ,   TA   (07.28.11)
25. If giving aid to Israel helps the USA so much
Buzzy B ,   U.S.A.   (07.28.11)
..why aren't other countries begging to give aid to Israel? The British and French are surely eager to benefit from all of Israel's high tech advances and their economies could surely also benefit from building aircraft and giving them to Israel free of charge.
26. 25 - ..why aren't other countries begging to give aid to Isr
split ,   US   (07.28.11)
:)))) ,...
27. obumma forgave $1BIL and gave $1BIL to egypt in
Bunnie Meyer ,   Los Angeles, CA USA   (07.28.11)
addition to the usual aid. Will that help even 1 American taxpayer? NO! Maybe you better ask Boeing and Northrup and other defense contractors before you stop giving money to Israel, because Israel isn't getting it.
28. Israel US AId
Mike ,   Los Angeles, CA   (07.28.11)
Well, well, well, despite the financial meltdown caused at least in part by International Banking, Israel doesn't need to worry about losing a dime of military aid. No mention of the non-military aid but one can assume that that is off the table also. As one may endanger one's political ambitions to oppose aid to Israel, it is unsusprizing to see this cash cow go untouched as Social Security and other programs are under the microscope. The onlly suprize is that this warrented any news attention at all- it has always been a done deal.
29. For all the knee jerk reactionary Americans
Tom W. ,   Windsor, Canada   (07.28.11)
You are all penny wise & pound foolish thinkers! At the height of spending during the 2 theatres of operations in Iraq & Afghanistan, you burned through $3 billion per week! Since 2002, your country has given Pakistan in declared funds around $20 billion! How much has the U.S. given Pakistan in undisclosed & classified agreements? Finally, unlike with Israel where the State Department prohibits the sales of various weapons systems that Israel actual needs & has made formal requests to purchase. Your government sells weapons to Saudi Arabia without any restrictions at all! It's time for people like you to grow up & stop bashing the $3 billion per year Israel receives; start viewing the big picture of your government's waste! By the way, your politicians have wasted more money on corrupt earmarks money diversion plans than you have spent on Israel all these years! Uh...sorry, you were saying what again?
30. #25 Buzzy B - here is WHY
CK Tan ,   Singapore, Singapore   (07.28.11)
The Brits and the French KNOW that the US enjoys the BENEFITS of Israeli innovative technology. The also KNOW that they can always COUNT on the US to bail them out in tight situations. So it is a WIN-WIN situation for those two - TAKE advantage of Israel's innovations THROUGH the US and NOT have to pay a SINGLE cent.
