5. Turkey: everything going on "according to plan"
Raymond in DC ,   Washington, USA   (07.31.11)
The problem is that plan involves removing the "checks" Turkey's shift to an eastern and Islamic orientation. More than 400 are in jail, including many senior military officers and journalists. AKP has put many of their own on the courts; now it has the chance to put their own people in charge of the military. The fantasies of Barak and Ben Eliezer about reestablishing close ties with Turkey were always foolish. Israel should ignore pressure from the US to "make up" with Turkey; the latter only want to humiliate Israel.
6. Turkey
toast ,   USA   (07.31.11)
Turkey is the head of Islam and It is going to claim all rights. They will never connect with the non believers. It is the head of the snake. Dont trust Turkey look at its past history and most recently how Germany was paying the Turks to leave there country. OOH! the world needs to wake up.
7. Israel concerned because
Ahmet ,   Istanbul, Turkey   (07.31.11)
she has no more any influence on Turkey, lost her only ally in the ME, feeling very weak.
8. To: No. 7
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (07.31.11)
Funny, funny you. Feeling weak? Who, Israel? Yeah, right. We can turn you into a glowing cinder in no time at all, bubbeleh. Think on it. Keep going down the path Turkey's going, and that's your reality. Really.
9. The only developed muslim country is also turning medieval.
robert renders ,   belgium   (07.31.11)
10. Turkey is the historical head of the Islamic world.
Ibrahim ,   Turkey   (08.01.11)
It is about time some circles come to terms with reality and accept this. Afterall, you cannot engage the Islamic world militarily anymore as we too have nuclear weapons. What all parties must focus on is peaceful co-existence. Islam is not communism. It cannot be defeated through cold wars etc. The only alternative to co-existence is co-destruction. L'chaim
11. #7 oh yah!
Iranian Jew ,   LA   (08.01.11)
We really can't acheive anything w/o Turkey, yah right!!! We have been ok for the past 60 years and we'll be ok with or w/o you or Edrogan. We don't need half friends. Iran and Russia are your friends. You can learn how to screw up your country in no time from them. With friends like you then we don't need enemies.
12. #8 Sarah B.S
(08.01.11)
You sure do look like some one who escaped 'One flew over the kookoo's nest'. You keep wanting to turn people into a "glowing cinder". Don't you realize how stupid you are? You stupidity is the best argument for an Iranian nuclear weapon...

14. Maybe Israel and Turkey
Robert ,   NY USA   (08.01.11)
should be more concerned about the developments in oslo. All over the west, Russia, and many more. They don't like Jews or Muslims. Nor do they believe in any morals or G-d.
15. Ahmet
David Israel ,   New York, USA   (08.01.11)
Believe me when I say most Israelis don't worry much about Turkey. Israel has good relations with the rest of the world except the Islamic countries. With these relations Israel with only a small piece of ;and and just about 7 million population produces more intellectual capital than the entire Islamic countries (including Turkey) combined. Israel's # 15 in International Human Development ranking while Turkey is #83 (and believe me high number does not men better in this case)
16. Turkey & Turks
Expatriate   (08.01.11)
A line in a Victor Hugo poem (19th Cent.) says it all "The Turks passed there, [now] everything is in ruins, all are in mourning". Flash forward to the 21st Century and ...we have an instant replay of past catastrophes inflicted by the same perpetrators(:
17. Ahmed @ 7, do you even understand that Turkey
leo ,   usa   (08.01.11)
is in danger? And no it is not external danger. You are about to have Islamic Revolution number 2. What makes you think you and your family will be the ones to survive? Oh, and do not worry about Israel too much. If you turned around so quickly then you never were Israel's ally anyway. Better not have allies at all rather than backstabbers like you.
18. Isreal is concerned about the wrong things
Mehmetcan ,   Turkey   (08.01.11)
Yes there is an ongoing battle in Turkey between secularists and islamists. There is a huge population in Turkey, and a very strong population indeed, which supports western values. You are talking about a strong 100 year old secular state. Don't worry, it won't turn into Iran or suddenly become Israel's enemy. Israel should look to its own, it is doing everything possible to evoke hatred in its environment, it is constantly breaking the international law, and thinks she can act as a bully just because she has an airforce and warheads. Since you're never going to be able to use them. Don't trust your war heads so much. Israel government should listen to the voice of its own people and stop being so hawkish every chance it gets.
19. A non aggressive USA?
Mehmetcan ,   Turkey   (08.01.11)
Just another thing. I wonder what Israel would do if Ron Paul or another constitutionalist non-interventionalist nominee becomes the president. How about if the billions of dollar annual USA aid is cut off?? What will happen when this war-economy that is only serving the interests of a minority in USA is stopped? Israel will eventually have to adapt itself to the new world. She has to respect personal freedoms, and other cultures. Not all muslims are the enemy.
20. Ahmet Enjoy the upcoming, unopposed Islamist takeover.
PETER SM ,   AUSTRALIA   (08.01.11)
Intimidated media, intimidated judiciary,Islamist officered military. The next Iran, an Islamic democracy,an oxymoron. Is that what you want? Ahmadinejad & Erdogan cuddling to gather. Good luck getting them out once they are in
21. to #11 not since the turkish empire crumbled
ghostq   (08.01.11)
more then 80 years ago, today it's russia and Iran puppet.
22. to #7 you also lost your democracy to religious regim
ghostq   (08.01.11)
I don't see the big lost since Iran playing you for mega fools, the Islam radical regim is not liberation, anyone who will dare critisie it will have to deal with life thretening situation with out paroll, and the corruption of the religious leaders will grow and grow.
23. To: #12 Without name
Israeli 2   (08.01.11)
A small piece of advice: When you see names like Sarah B. Terry Chaim Give them lots of respect. They know of what they speak. Before you call them stupid, i suggest you take a good look at yourself.
24. #18 Who is the bully?
Expatriate   (08.01.11)
Mehmetcan, please explain how Israel is a bully. Is it because Israel is still defending itself from constant attacks from terrorists and threats of annihilation from its neighbors? Is it because Israel has had to fight so many wars to protect its precarious existence? Is it because Israel has won its existential battles through blood, sweat and tears? Is it because it is resisting anti-semites actions and slurs? Please explain and give the world your wisdom.
25. Erdogan is a brutal, deceiving, Islamist dictator
(08.01.11)
He is turning Turkey into a new Iran. I suggest all secular businessmen and military leave Turkey and ask for Asylum in the western democracies before this madman closes up the country. I am sure that Israel will be glad to host some of these Turkish refugees. Germany, France and the US too.
26. again
anton ,   istanbul turkey   (08.01.11)
same old funny jokes but i understand you guys what wıould be the best argument to attack? ofc erdogans islamist backround :) anyone who claims that turkey will be like iran dont even deserve to be taken seriously period coming years in middle east will be life and death situtaion i know for fact that noone wins always and if you are alone among lions you beter not fall even once israel doesnt deserve turkey you can say vice versa ofc :)
27. To #24 Expatriate, Here are my views
Mehmetcan ,   Turkey   (08.01.11)
Since you asked so kindly, I would be happy to give you my views:) No-one is denying the repeated threats Israel has had to face and the wars it had to fight. No-one is denying her right to national security. But you can't just declare everyone the enemy, ask everyone else to make concessions and never make concessions yourself. It has to be mutual, all Israel has done in these 2000's was to base its whole politics in an economy of war and she tried to get what she wanted through force. She has immense lobbying power in USA and is always supporting a hawkish, interventionalist USA policy. Well that's coming to an end, billions of dollars of aid will one day be cut off. What will you do then? Adapt to your environment, show that you have good faith. Try and find friends in your own environment. It is not like it is all the muslims on one side and you on the others. Your hawkish government tells you this and brainwashes you. Make concessions on the Palestinian issue, believe me Turkey would never support a policy which threatens Israel's national security, because it is against our national security as well. But you are acting so hawkish and keep bullying everyone. You must respect the international law and other nation's concerns as well. You went ahead and bombed the hell out of Gaza in 2008 without telling anyone but the USA. This costed the lives of over 1000 Palestinians. You raided a ship in international waters. Use of over-excessive force and not respecting other nations will take you NO where. Your disrespectful and self aggrandizing policies will only make you more enemies. This is not a question of religion. I have grown up with jewish people around me. I am not religious at all. This is a question of basic human rights and international law. This is a question of knowing what diplomacy is.
28. What Israel should do, and what is Israel doing?
Mehmetcan ,   Turkey   (08.01.11)
1) See let's look at the big picture. If Israel takes good hearted steps on the Palestinian issue and makes comprimise, THEN one of the strongest arguments against Isreal, which in your view is used as propoganda by Iran and other nations, will cease to exist. This fact is so pure and simple that sometimes I wonder is your government really stupid or what? 2) When you observe European history, you'll see that the balance of power is kept by preventing any one nation from getting TOO strong. Now Turkey will never allow a too strong Iran. It is extremely against Turkey's national security interests. But what is Israel's goal here? Is Israel's goal to keep the balance of power or is her goal to be the dominant country at the cost of all other nations? I am highly against Turkey's reapproachment with some of the Arap states in the region, I despise their brutal governments and how they treat their own citizens. But Isreal's actions hardly make her a friend. You need a smart government, a government that knows politics and diplomacy, not a government that is enslaved to hawkish policies and the war economy. Some smart Israelis are realizing this. I hope others also realize it.
29. # 28 compromise
J.K. ,   Brooklyn USA   (08.01.11)
Mehmetcan ! the only compromise the palestinians are willing to accept,is,Israel handing over to them the key to the country and living, exactly, because of people like you,who blindly support them,Israel offered the palestinians very good deals to settle the conflict, and were rejected by Arafat-Abu mazen, the oslo agreements were derailed by Arafat-Hamas with suicide bombinngs,Turkey under caliph erdogan has joined the Muslim brothehood,i don't expect objectivity from Turkey.
30. Larry some facts you omit
Ibrahim ,   Turkey   (08.01.11)
Pakistan has 50 kiloton nuclear warheads. Azerbeijan has former USSR nuclear weapons. Turkey is a NATO nuclear sharing partner and has nuclear weapons stored on its territory. Im sure you also know about nuclear fallout. One nuclear warhead is enough to bring Israel to a standstill...whereas you need afew to injury Turkey due to the topography and size.
