1. Dear religous "Israelis": Don't Wake Up1
Salma ,   Palestine   (08.09.11)
The sleep of a tyrant is worship.
2. If seculars will join the Shabbat Desecration protest
Chaim ,   Migron   (08.09.11)
(which is a protest against Jews desecrating G-d's commandment - the same G-d that gives YOU the right to live in HIS country) religious Jews will think about joining your POLITICAL protests. Momentarily, the Leftists protest of trying to overthrow Bibi's government does not appeal to religious Jews and rightists. What do you want? That G-d forbid the Destruction Minister Ehud Barak should replace Bibi and destroy all of Israel?
3. Who chose this person to represent the religious?
Haredi Who Works ,   Dearborn, MI, USA   (08.09.11)
I too am religious and I am not running to support these silly protests. I have a full-time job, and I live in a place where housing and cost of living are affordable. I do not have the time or money to rush out to Tel Aviv to be in the thick of excitement. Too bad, Ms. Efrat, I will have to miss out on "this era's great spiritual effort" because I am working! (which you always whine and complain that we Haredim do not do)
4. #2 Chaim please dont come to the demo
Haim ,   TA   (08.09.11)
Hate to break it to you but most Israelis do not keep Shabbat or claim to live by your religious rules so there goes that pathetic arguement. Religion is afterall a belief a faith, as if donning a kipah and declaring yourself religious automatically qualifies you as moral high ground. I presume the cost of living , cottage cheese baby strollers, electricity, appartment rentals, sales also affects your holy family . So dont forget those nasty seculars now in the thousands are also marching for you. You know the ones that work, pay taxes and serve in the army to pay for this holy lifestyle of yours.
5. this era’s great spiritual effort ?
(08.09.11)
U r the one who is arrogant, self righteous hyppocrite! Were u there for gush katif expulsion when trully hundreds of thousands of ppl peacefully protested? Your "ideology" and fake love trully r dispicable....too bad this "article" was printed on 9th of Av-bringing forth feelings of hate and dispise toward u forward.....How sad for me!
6. to #1
(08.09.11)
moshiach is coming which will bring your downfall so we must wake up and do teshuva!
7. all thease protests
jew of israel!   (08.09.11)
and rising of homes in israel started right after kicking people out of THEIR homes in gush katif!
8. to salma
(08.09.11)
maybe if you were in libya you would not have time to write which is a better idea !
9. What does social justice mean?
Steve   (08.09.11)
Doesn't the justice of our prophet Isaiah mean Jews have a right to build and live in all of Israel? Efrat Shapira-Rosenberg wants religious Jews to join their secular brethren protesting for social justice. What is social justice if not the Jewish people's right to our land? Where is the justice in limiting construction in Judea, Samaria and Jerusalem as this government is doing? Why not ask our secular brethren to join us, reqesting the right to live and build in all of Israel? Won't that help bring the cost of housing down?
10. Why we religious Jews rally only when our Rabbis tell us to.
Heshy ,   Brooklyn USA   (08.09.11)
We follow our Rabbis on when to act. These rallies are carried out by the very opponents of chareidi Jews,so why should we join them.
11. mabe Lubavich needs to get involved
Abe the babe ,   usa israel   (08.09.11)
I bethink that if there is any religious group that can reach out to the protesters in Rothchild sqare it is Lubavitch.. It is well known hoiw much Lubavitchers following the lead of the rebbe I love their fellow Jews including the secular. i would expect to see Lubavichers giving out drinks and sandwiches and working together ith their fellow Jews to alleviate the plight of their fellow Jews. Forget about the missionizing for amoment. An act of kindness can bring a Jew closer to G-d then putting on tephilin.
12. #2 is right
Israel Israeli ,   Tel Aviv   (08.09.11)
These protests are orchestrated, using the justified demands of the people to further someone's agenda. Just like in 1992 or 1999, once the Left seizes power they will forget all social issues and concentrate on ethnic cleansing of Jews from their homes.
13. to #1 a guest
jews of israel ,   ISRAEL   (08.09.11)
you are a guest here in israel so behave like one! Zionists rule !
14. Reply to #10 Heshey
haim ,   TA   (08.09.11)
Quite obviously you are out of touch with the living costs in Israel, what a shame you have lost the basic human ability to think for yourself and need to ask a rabbi to make every DAY descisions for you.
15. Hatred on Tishabaav
ABE THE BABE ,   ISRAEL-USA   (08.09.11)
To numbers 2 3 and 4 In case you noticed the whole protest shut down out of respect for Tishabav. I am Orthodox and I saw a picture of a secular homeless young woman and her eyes filled with expectation her five year old son besides her with a look of anquish on her face which brought me to tears. And here you written hateful letters about your fellow Jews on Tishabav. I dont think that any Jew relious or secular should feel proud of that,
16. #15 Hatred on Tisha B'Av
Kyle ,   Southpark, CO, USA   (08.09.11)
If you want to see some more hatred on Tisha B'Av just go over to the YNet article about the separate ticket kiosks for men and women. There you will see hateful comments that will make your eyes bleed. What is "hateful" about suggesting that people should get jobs and live where they can afford?
17. Housing can be cheap
Heshy ,   Brooklyn USA   (08.09.11)
I who live in Brooklyn New York and have a daughter living in Jerusalem fully understand that housing in major areas is expensive. If all the secular people want to live in Tel aviv of course the prices will sky rocket. There are plenty of affordable homes in other areas. Its like New York,if you want to live in manhattan you pay the price. There is so much unsettled land in Israel yet the seculars all want Tel aviv I suspect its a haven to being able to live in sin and not feel the guilt of Chareidim watching you live in sin. Well like a local Rabbi told me its G-ds way of forcing the secular types to leave Israel and make room for American chareidim making aliyah.
18. Senseless protests
Tomy ,   Israel   (08.09.11)
This are senseless protests manipulated by neo-liberal and leftist NGO's and forging spy agencies which wont create money from air.More so the ideological manipulative fathers of this protests are not really interested in social justice, their aim is to bring Netanyahu's government down in order to secure peaceful partition and humiliation of Israel
19. Leaves a very bad taste of hypocrisy
Yitzchak ,   TA   (08.09.11)
Granted it is expensive in Israel. We import many things and they are much more expensive then they would be if there were really truly competition. There is no excuse for an Israeli to pay 2x for vehicle. We also pay more for food items and banking services because of regulations. Still the call to participate as religious Israelis sounds hollow coming from someone who voices such contempt to our community. She speaks like she has no day to day connection with us in Israel and belittles our concerns. How can someone who was completely unmoved by the expulsion and imposed poverty and homelessness of the Jews from Gush Katif have the chutzpa to lecture about social responsibility? I hope that religious Israelis realize that they are handing a loaded gun to people who will turn it upon them and gladly fire.
20. Get a life
michael Pielet ,   boca raton, Israel   (08.09.11)
Haim, when you march for more housing to be built in Judea and Samaria, I will come to the SETTLEMENT, Tel Aviv and march for you.
21. #10
Madeleine ,   Rehovot Israel   (08.09.11)
Seems that most Haredim can't move or make a decision for themselves without first consulting with their rabbi. Always have someone else to think for them. make your own decisions based on your beliefs and experiences, rather than folowing liek sheep just because you are told to do so.
22. Social Justice is For All
susan ,   raanana, israel   (08.09.11)
Efrat, for once I have to agree with you. I do everything you do - give charity, help others, raise my children with morals... The only difference is that I do it out of humanistic reasons and not because a religion mandated it. The religious public is going to have to wake up and realize that social ills affects us all. When our health, welfare and education systems collapse, the religious are going to suffer just as much as the seculars if not more. It's time to stop being politically correct. Our country can't support large families. We don't have enough water, land or energy. We can't afford to subsidize people who don't want to work. We shouldn't have to spill and waste precious milk on Saturdays to satisfy religious law. We shouldn't have to throw out large plastic bottles just because it isn't important to certain members of society. We have extremely limited resources. EVERYBODY is going to have to wake up and assume responsibility. Susan, Raanana
23. This article is not helpful
Herb ,   TA, Israel   (08.10.11)
It is just inflammatory as witnessed by the talkbacks. Better if the article had never been written. the only winner here is Salma, from Palestine, Texas
24. With all respect these protests looks a little bit fishy ...
Asher ,   NY,USA   (08.10.11)
Why you did not have any protests when many of the FMs in charge during Olmert and Kadima ruling were involved in so many corruptions back and fort and even Olmert himself is still under investigations which is taking forever and there was not any kind of protests and demonstrations????? This is obvious that these protests are only organised by Left and the ultimate goal is to open the doors again to Levnis who can't wait to hand half of Jerusalem to Abas and do the same mistake that Sharon did with Gaza and replaced Jews by Hamas and Iran proxy's and now Israel has to do a blockade and get involved in more and more problems with flotias.... No my friends these demonstrations are too fishy and it's goal is only to bring down the Right and brings Left to power and as soon as it happens everything goes back to where it was. This is a COTTAGE CHEESE Revolution and nothing MORE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
25. Hez/Hamas Rockets Dont Care Much
Noah Lev ,   HollywoodUSA   (08.10.11)
In Egypt and other countries, during this Arab Spring, there were counter protestors. If 250,000 protest their respective grievances, why not have 2m protest their relative satisfaction with Israel? I dont know frankly, the mertis of each group? If houing (rentals) are way out of sight..except for a minority..then the govt should aid. That is what govt is for, besides the military and runing the post office. Israel is very socialistic still..with its union power and govt ownership of so much land., etc. Alloing 1m people to avoid work to be professionl students of Judaism, is fa farce and everyone knows it. know a few religious US families living in Israel..with spouses here at home. They boast of not working. Thearmy is another matter Irs blatantly unfair...have an Israeli corps or something akin. But no service is eroding your country's moral if anything. Israel s did try socialism for decades..and has was effective for the TIME. A GDP of 200b, low unemployment, a freedom not found anywhere else, religious tolerance, a growing economy, future gas revenues, a military next to none. If some billionaire USA Jews want names on bldgs..so what! Israels divisions are enabling the Pales to break every agreement negotiated, just as Hez/Hama have broken every cease fire. Bibi is playing it smart. And if Barak, or Livni were P.M. then what? We Jews in the USA want to help..and we can contribute money, but Israel must decide for itself, its future. Right now, the Pales are winning the war to make it Judenrein ultimately. As Hitler said, they need living space. Their rockets will kill all Jews, from secular to religious, protestor to non-protestor. Get kt!
26. To Israel; Declare Marshal Law
Noah Lev ,   HollywoodUSA   (08.10.11)
To Asher: Millions of Jews in the Diaspora and concerned Christians,(millions more) must write to the current Israeli govt, our support for its policies ( open discussions under the mantle of a Jewish state ), a capitalistic country with a govt tht aids its people where necessary..the infirmed, the helpless, the hapless, the military, thebasic infrastructure, the ownership of some land, and overall security ffor Israel's survival. I agree that the protests seem more and more a type of extortion...embolden by watching Egypt and Tunisias successes. However, Syria is imploding, Tunisia is problematic, Bahrain is no where. Irans protestors are still in jail..and the Mullahs rule wi/.o interference. Part of this all is Obama's fault. He now is "concerned" over 900 units in Har Homa? What? Even if E. Jerusalemj goes Pales..the Jewish enclaves will remain. No surprise. Bibi is caving in to Obama, (land swapes and 67 lines as beginning talking ponts). Okay, they are techicalities. But the "right of return" is still demanded, which will kill any future peace arrangement, voluntarily or imposed. To Israel: for starters, take down those119 flags in Famallah. Those countries are not legally entitled to them. Re: the protests..meet with their reps..peacefully. Then clear out the tents..as unlawful assembly. If need be, declare MARSHAL LAW.
27. Be carefull Israel
David ,   NJUSA   (08.10.11)
American Idiots voted in Obama and the World collapses, literally. Strings are being pulled behind curtains, can Tzipi the parakeet or Barak the clocksmith protect you from the dangers ahead???
