1. Separate and unequal
Michail Kalman ,   Haifa & Washington   (08.09.11)
Jim Crow is alive and well in Israel! Not possible, after all Judaism is the religion of freedom and the underpinning of the US Constitution! I must have fallen asleep and woken up in Teheran, Ryiad ....etc.
2. The women is engaged in Extortion
Ron ,   Melbourne, Australia   (08.09.11)
I am, secular, and totally disgusted by segregation, however, it is a a bit rich for her to seek court action against the operators who are just the meat in the sandwich. She is a member of an intolerant, bigoted, group. The fault is due to the Heredi community. The rest of Israel is paying for their folly. She is not changing the Haredi Community - which is the source of the problem. She goes against the poor operator who is being blackmailed by the Haredi community. The operator would be economically advantaged by offering a service without discrimination - it is more cost effective and simpler to manage ticket sales which cater for higher numbers - averaging demand - as well as aggregating sales. But does she go and sue the Haredi community, protest against them , etc , NO !!! - lets create the problem , sue the state, let the state intervene , then blame the state for intervention ,etc ,etc - instead of fixing our on house. Lady - orgainize the rest of your community to protest against the stupid leaders who let this behavior be their way of worshiping god. I am sure she (God) is also unimpressed by such stupidity but is obviously powerless to act against such individuals.
3. is that for real ?
zooz ,   gaza   (08.09.11)
and muslims gets critisim for Hijab ? at least Islam is ordering men to take care of women and respect them not to treat them bad . well know Israel is turning to a taliban country where only religious people can live in . At least taliban didnt treat their women the same way a cevilized country like israel is doing . religion has nothing to do with this , i think its mentality and stupid religious leaders who are not forbidding such acts
4. idea
(08.09.11)
drink a glass of water and walk. don't make a big seal about nothing.
5. Women and children should be first in line.
Israeli 2   (08.09.11)
6. Dear offended lady
Sagi   (08.09.11)
I suggest that you lodge a complaint with the Almighty on high. Maybe he can solve this problem. I do feel very sad and sorry for you. Not only that but I am quite disgusted that this should happen in the country of which I am a citizen. For what it is worth you have my apologies.
7. Smells Like BS
El-Nakam ,   TA, Israel   (08.09.11)
Why didn't her husband just buy her a ticket? I've NEVER heard of a married couple who would buy tickets separately.
8. Taliban Jews
roxanne ,   Haifa   (08.09.11)
Taliban Jews are not modest about being bigots; this they show off.
9. Unequal treatment ? FIRE clerks, station managers
moshe ,   Tivon   (08.09.11)
outrageous behavior ! In Israel, in Jerusalrm ,...wherever: women, men, Arabs, Jews, Christians , etc ... the Israeli Public MUST be served promptly and in a dignified manner !. FIRE clerks, station managers, who do not treat people equally, and politely ! moshe
10. the birth of a monster
tiki ,   belgium   (08.09.11)
This new 'phenomenon has to be rooted out before it can develop into a fanatical monster.
11. there are
(08.09.11)
worse problems in the world! end!
12. such a
Orthodox woman ,   ISRAEL   (08.09.11)
positive article! this woman have respect and not go purposely to ones who are modest and then dirty them in ynet end!
13. El nakam 7 . It's not a ticket
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (08.09.11)
on a ticket your picture is not seen . It must be something ressembling the "rav Kav" card .
14. Separate ticket booths
Df ,   Beer Sheva, Israel   (08.09.11)
Wasn't stated, but is the booth located 2 minutes away manned by a male or a female ? Secondly, why 2 minutes away ? Why not put the 2 ticket booths side by side ? Or will that still hurt the sensitivities of some of the charedim ? The women should go on strike - refuse to sleep with their husbands until all this discrimination against women is ended.
15. "Not a beach or a swimming pool"
Deebo_ ,   Holon   (08.09.11)
Like that should make any difference? Charidim, you're backwards and private companies should not be bullied into serving to your backwards misogynistic demands. You all have a backwards view of what Hashem wants. Your backwards religion needs to adapt to today's standards. Nobody cares when you follow your traditions, but when you force them on the public you are interfering with people's right to freedom of religion. Which we have in this country. And... wait a sec... why do they need to have their picture taken?
16. The greatest concern of MOST
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (08.09.11)
orthodox people is UNITY .
17. Bad excuse. Two stands could be next to each other.
Rebecca ,   Modiin   (08.09.11)
And the amount of service must be calculated by use, ie if the same no of women are expected to need tickets there should be as many stands for women. I'm not against the segregation, but I am against the discrimination.
18. if they had a big sign, saying "women apply in xy street"...
eporue ,   europe   (08.09.11)
would be ok... if they cant take pictures of women, then they cant... but waiting in queue and then being told, "sorry", is stupid...
19. very sad
deckard   (08.09.11)
Sad to see Israel slipping into Middle Eastern-type religious darkness and madness. It used to be a perky, healthy country. Reading this article I can't tell if it's Muslim or Jewish religious extremism at work. On the bright side, as you draw closer to Iran and Saudi Arabia in terms of societal anomalies, perhaps you will also find more common political ground to avoid future conflict.
20. sex-segragation.
wonder ,   world(-wide)   (08.09.11)
it"s a shame that it still exists in this world.
21. The Teliban express train is now leaving platform 1
Haim ,   TA   (08.09.11)
These people really are a constant source of amusement, whats next? maybe they they will put the women in a seperate carriage with the cattle and donkeys and be done with it.
22. Deport them!
Michael Steiner ,   Bahrain   (08.09.11)
I've lived in a half dozen Arab countries, including Saudi Arabia, and I never even HEARD something like this happen in any of them. These people are not going to stop. They have already gotten away with thwarting commerce, medical research, the due process of law (remember what happened when the cops tried to arrest child molesters?), and the operation of public transportation. They've been doing that largely unchallenged. NOBODY sent them an unequivocal message that such sh*t would not fly. It's clear from the way they think, dress and act that they would be far more comfortable in some village in their precious Poloniya or "Gehmaniya," so why not send them there? They can live there in a ghetto stuck in the 17th century, which is obviously what they want.
23. Good courage shown by this woman!
Jew1 ,   Ashdod   (08.09.11)
This woman has shown great courage and patience to persue this matter till attended. As a woman, I thank you for doing so. I hope our government will take notice of this thing and like this there are many other issues which haredim are imposing on general public and violating our right to choose religious practices. These type of things are happeing too often. This small little group of religious people are slowly slowly turning in to monsters. Don't wait to stop them till they turn in to taliban. It will be too late then. Time is still on our side to stop this tsunami of religious taliban to take over our country.
24. Not a state that discriminates
Pinhas Bayit ,   Bet HaKerem   (08.09.11)
Not a racially prejudiced state, not a sexually segregated state, not a religiously discriminatory state. No not us! And heaven forfend that we would be seen as an apartheid state. How dare you utter such words in the same breath as ISRAEL.
25. #22 in Bahrain???
Israeli grandma   (08.09.11)
You have carefully ignored the huge range of anti-female cultural and legal restrictions of the Muslim Arabian Peninsular. This nonsense of separate ticket booths arose because of a fringe minority demand for a male not taking a photo of a female. A new Humra which will probably die the death of other ludicrous novelties. And for the writer who doesnt understand about the photo, it is required because the Rav Kard is an electronic method of ensuring that each card is only valid for the user recorded on it, like a driving licence. It is also programmed for the minor, or senior half price rate of travel where appropriate.
26. We have better version of Taliban, Taliban with dress code..
Israeli ,   Lod, Israel   (08.09.11)
It all started very sweetly. Let us pray..we will pray whole day to have mercy and success for our land of Israel. Then they stop working, and with our duddle doo economy we have to support them and their bunch of kids who will have another bunch of kids who will not work, then they do not want to serve in army, they do not believe in independence day or memorial day. Whole Israel stands on siren and they walk like nothing happened. Then they don't want any secular buying house in their society areas, otherwise they are throwing rocks and throwing lit petrol bottles in their houses, then they started having trouble in their own community (Sephardic / Ashkenazi etc. just like shia/sunni) to treat everyone equal, they they are bringing their discrimination in schools (eg. Emanual), then they say that they don't recognize law of the state of Israel - they recognize law of tora, then they oppose all those who wants to work on Saturday and do strike/riots in front of those companies burning tyres, breaking cars and street lights. Then a women can not marry or divorce in civilized way without their permission. Then they separate buses and road for men and women. Women does not get any higher posts as only men are allowed, then they want to bring a law for a man to be allowed to marry more than one women...What's happening?? Hey don't worry this just a jewish version of Taliban in only democratic country in Middle east.
27. at least she can
IlanaB   (08.09.11)
go to court on this as the law should protect her rights. The story is hair raisingly disgusting. Can women drive in Saudi Arabia? Can women talk with men that are not their husbands or sons-legally? It sweems at least from what I have read, that women have hardly any rights in S.Arabia and other similar countries- caning a 70 year old woman for talking to some young guy...
28. CityPass enables this mishugass
Babishka ,   USA/Mea Shearim   (08.09.11)
The byzantine bureaucracy that has trapped almost the entire Israeli in its tentacles is enabling this idiocy. They should say We service everyone at every kiosk v'gamarnu! If you don't like it don't ride the train.
29. Will L be the Israeli Rosa Parks?
R ,   Israel   (08.09.11)
We have recently seen the power of protesting inequality. In addition to filing a complaint, sueing, etc., if L and all women and men who despise this Jim-Crow setup vote with their feet the light rail will not profit and management will be forced to reconsider their decision. It worked fo Rosa Parks and the oppressed blacks in the US south. They refused to ride public transportation. They were willing to suffer, they were mostly poor and walked long distances until they brought the establishment to its feet. We can do it too.
30. She and her ilk started this
Glen ,   Tel Aviv   (08.09.11)
What on earth is she complaining for? She doesn't mind being pushed to the back of a bus, having to walk behind her husband, being considered dirty for having a period, having to cover her hair or not to sing because it's so tempting to men... and now she's upset. Difficult to understand why the people who brought this perverse view of life, and misogynistic attitudes to women in particular to a country they don't even believe in, should be moaning because it's backfiring in their own faces. You've held the entire country to ransom with this bizarre and medieval garbage - walk, dear, walk...
