1. these people think they can do what the hell the like
zionist forever   (08.10.11)
As long as its connected to this protest in some way they think they can do anything they want. Its one thing to set up a tent and something else to set up a shack, that sort of thing is subject to planning laws These protests are getting out of hand and its time for them to end before it turns to riots. The people have made themselves heard now we need an atmosphere of calm to allow the government to get on with making reforms and people must learn there are still laws in this country.

"Its one thing to set up a tent and something else to set up a shack, that sort of thing is subject to planning laws " Are you by any chance talking of the illegal settlers in the Occupied Territories ?
3. They do have one point
Rachel ,   US   (08.10.11)
The protesters in Tel Aviv are not going to vote Likud. The Likud would be better moving heaven & earth to fix the housing problems of their poor constituents. Make them the priority since they are the ones really hurting.
4. Pictures speak loudly. The soc protst has collapsd in Israel

6. This is absolutely unacceptable behaviour.
me ,   here   (08.10.11)
With the increasing costs of living for everybody, and now the latest increase of electricity costs, the next six months will clearly determine where we are heading. I wish everybody think again and take a personal stand - it's ok to be frustrated in a situation like this, but helping to peacefully find sustainable national solutions is crucial and protesting in streets is just a sign, not a solution. It is also well known, that mob behaviour can be triggered in any large gathering, obviously for no reason. It is enough to watch the huliganism of British football fans, who think vandalism and violence are ok for the only reason that their team lost... May we learn from them - and NOT do like them. That is NOT the sort of society we want! Neither should we fall to the level of the Arabic Spring uprising, that is using the same - and worse - methods as the British hooligans, behaving like a street mob and barbarians. In a democratic society you have the right to demonstrate and protest and the right to free speech. You do NOT have the right to close streets and burn furniture. By doing so, you put others in danger. That very same street may be needed to be used by people living there, or going to the hospital because of an emergency or going to give birth. Damaging public or private property is NOT ok. I say, let us draw a line in the sand RIGHT HERE!

Ian ,   Newcastle upon Tyne   (08.10.11)
Comparing the Israel protests to the UK riots is like comparing chalk and cheese. The Holon protesters simply set a piece of their own furniture alight and then allowed the fire brigade to put it out.In Britain the rioters burnt somebody else's furniture;in fact they burnt down a whole large furniture warehouse and then stoned the fire engines that came to deal with it. The only thing that seems to unite the protesters and the rioters is that they both seem to have the same me,me,me,attitude and want everything now even though it's impossible. THREE CHEERS FOR ISRAEL!!!
8. The poor in America also look well fed #5!

9. #5 and 8: Malnutrition often shows as overwheight.
mr ,   here   (08.11.11)
They fat people you see here have most likely have had to eat a lot of cheap but fattening starches (like bread) and oily food (like chips). Healthier alternatives like lean meat and vegetables may be out of their economic reach. - I know that I myself for many years have not afforded to buy fresh fruit and red meat. No need to be sarcastic. Being fat is one of the surest signs of poverty - unless it is starvation we talk about...
10. This is what you get when you vote Sh-ass
Haim ,   TA   (08.11.11)
With Ariel Atias ( Sh-ass MK) as minister responsible for housing what should you expect? Sh-ass = $$$$$$$$
11. #1 Zionist - Hypocracy forever
Haim ,   TA   (08.11.11)
" Its one thing to set up a tent and something else to set up a shack, that sort of thing is subject to planning laws " " oh i see in Holon you are not allowed to build a wooden structure without planning permission but in the occupied terrotries which you claim is part of Israel they can build houses basically where ever you feel like it, no need for planning permission , just throw in a Beit Knesset always gives them something to cry about. So since you are calling for the tearing down of illegal structures i suggest we start with the buildings in illegal settlements, thankyou for bringing this to our attention.

You are welcome to go back to Russia or live in Gaza. Judea and Samaria are ONLY occupied by the Jordanian squatters who will soon go hiome in September, you hate Israel please leave,
13. Attitude
MK ,   Columbus, Georgia   (08.11.11)
Well Ian from Newcastle. What sort of attitude do you have as compared with the deprived? These people have been living in poverty for ages and most importantly they feel alienated from a system that is totally impervious to any dialog. People do not resort to riot at the drop of a hat which they would have done if they had the "me me me" attitude as you put it. Riot is indeed a cry for help. I suggest you have some empathy for the suffering of the poor instead of thinking that only your well-being counts.
14. Public housing in Jesse Cohen
Susan ,   Kfar Saba   (08.11.11)
I know this neighborhood as I have a relative who lives there. Most of the public housing units were sold off cheaply to the elderly people who live in them. As they die off, their kids inherit them and can rent or sell them at market prices. There isn't much public housing left.
15. Dont criticise Shas so glibly
Susan ,   Kfar Saba   (08.11.11)
They run excellent schools. I know because my kid went to such a school in Kfar Saba. A lot of the kids came from the poorer are of Kfar Saba. It was the best school any of my kids went to. Shas has two goals with a good secular and religious education: 1. To bring this generation of young people back to Judaism and 2. That they won't be the next generation of poor people like their parents. The kids in Jesse Cohen are their constituency and their best hope of getting out of that neighborhood when they grow up.You have to look to the future, not just see what is going on right now.
16. #15 Susan i would be careful where i send my kids to school
Haim ,   TA   (08.11.11)
Think you forgot to mention the following: Areyeh Deri Rafael Pinhasi Yair Lev Ofer Hugi Yair Peretz and last but not least Shlomo Ben Izri, all have been convicted of offences including fraud and forgery, missuse of public funds and obstruction of justice. Just what are they teacing them exactly? Fraud for begginers ? How to dodge the draft ? How to milk the system dry without paying a sheckel ?
17. #13MK,Yes,I live in Newcastle upon Tyne......
Ian ,   Newcastle upon Tyne   (08.11.11)
...a place that has been economically depressed for DECADES and people struggle to get along,as a way of life. THIS IS REAL URBAN POVERTY,not the comparative disadvantage that we see in the Holon,Tel Aviv and the south of England. Of course I'm cynical about this.I lived through identical riots HERE 20 years ago when kids went on the rampage for no other reason than police tried to stop car hijacking and joyriding. They weren't rioting because of substantial issues;they wouldn't have recognised one if it hit them in the face.It was opportunistic and done for kicks, just like this week's riots. If the protesters in Israel want to compare themselves to those rioters, they'll lose all credibility. It beats me how they think that the Israel government can sort out the the housing situation at a snap of the fingers(and they should see the old, decrepit, cramped, damp homes many HERE have to bring up families in). What are they expecting?Rents will halve overnight?Apartment prices will halve overnight?New housing is going to suddenly jump out of the ground? This is fantasy. They can camp out until doomsday and it won't happen. They'd be better off using their energies to gradually improve their lives and concentrating on curing the underlying ills in Israel's society than wasting their time demanding a quick, impossible fix for the symptoms. THREE CHEERS FOR ISRAEL!!!
18. to #16
Susan ,   Kfar Saba   (08.11.11)
No, it wasn't anything like that. They didn't even talk about politics. I am neither Sephardic nor poor, but it was a fantastic school for my son. I highly recommend it.
