Is it called arab spring in England too?
2. Sooooooooo OLD!!!!!

"Bread and Circuses" --- is a metaphor for a superficial means of appeasement. In the case of politics, the phrase is used to describe the creation of public approval, not through exemplary or excellent public service or public policy, but through the mere satisfaction of the immediate, shallow requirements of a populace. The phrase also implies the erosion or ignorance of civic duty amongst the concerns of the common man (l'homme moyen sensuel). In modern usage, the phrase has become an adjective to describe a populace that no longer values civic virtues and the public life. To many across the political spectrum, left and right, it connotes the triviality and frivolity that characterized the Roman Empire prior to its decline. The above is a direct quote from Wikipedia. It explains it to the point. And it points out the consequences too, the decline of a whole civilization because of the "populace that no longer values civic virtues and the public life", and, as said in the article do not want "to work within society's laws". Let us, just this time, take ourselves the time to sit down and learn from history... Protest, yes. Huliganism, no!
3. Answer to the question that was...
Gideon Reader ,   USA   (08.11.11)
...asked by the article's header. NO! The events in the UK are mainly racially inspired, and in support of a basically criminal underclass, whose anti-social behavior has been rewarded by succeding administrations; feeling that it was cheaper to pay off the rabble invited in in error, than adressing the problem head on. Israel's street theater is esentially political, with the street parade atteempting to stage a bloodless ccoup d'etat b y irritating against the PM and his elected government. The similarities exist only in that the stage is the street. Looting, destruction and mindless violence and striking against the 'Man" is not on the meun in Israel's case. In the UK, the rioting rabble do not want to change the government. They want NO government at all, regardless of political pursuasion.
4. UK
(08.11.11)
these sporadic outbreaks of hooliganism have been a regular feature of life in Europe and UK for hundreds of years. Thats why Ynet talkbackers predictions of Muslim violence overwhelming the UK are funny. Any Muslim ''warriors'' in Britain would be no match for the British working class if it went on the rampage. Secondly the British working class, far from cowering in the corner in fear, would welcome the distraction from their mundane lives of a full on civil war. These are the war-like descendents of a people who conquered half the world and created the biggest empire in history.
5. Why should Israel be any different?
Cynic #2   (08.11.11)
They are burning tires in Holon! The protests have been started by the so-called middle class. Usually protests are started by the hungry and dispriviliged. Wait till the poorer classes in Israel realize it is their fight also.
6. In Israel , police are not golems.
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (08.11.11)
They are trained here, to react quick and be effective.

MC ,   UK   (08.11.11)
This looting was not mainly racially inspired and it is wrong to assume it was. It has the potential to develop into a race issue as different communities start to react in different ways, but for majority of the looters it was just about having fun and drew an ethnically diverse crowd. Most of the footage I have seen is of kids having a great time stealing from shops, and thinking it is amazing that they could get away with it without the police stopping them. It is only now that the news programmes are constantly looking for answers that the looters are trying to find causes for their behaviour.
8. Not at all the same
BrianR ,   London UK   (08.11.11)
What has been happening in major cities in London is simple criminal behavior, motivated neither by racism nor by politics. It is indicative of a very, very sick society. Evidence suggests that those taking part are not the dispossessed, nor from a minority racial grouping. There is thus a huge difference between what is happening (or hopefully happened) in the UK and what is happening in Israel. In the latter case, there is a true motivation. It is a motivation shared over a wide range of the population. We have a lot to learn from Israel.
9. from decade society such as the UK.
ghostq   (08.11.11)
did you expect any better, it is not the royal family but the destructive institute that even its very own people protest against, not just taxes but policy that makes people beg for food. such shame the same institute condamn other nations policies while keeping it's own people as beggers.
10. to #8 not true, children also joined in, you
ghostq   (08.11.11)
truly believe that children r gangsters? who send their own children to loot, aperentely this phenomena exist only in the UK and the palestinian, where r the parents? not caring or not around? we r not talking on one child, this goes widely.
11. Illegal aliens
Susan ,   Kfar Saba   (08.11.11)
If we dont get rid of the illegals, they will grow in number, their children will grow into a disaffected minority and may someday do the same thing here.
12. It's in the USA
leo ,   nyc   (08.11.11)
Does anyone read the news in the US? Mini riots in a number of major US cities provide direct indication that the welfare state has done very lttle to change the breakdown of family life which is the center of the problem--girls having babies at 14 and being supported by the state only leads to violence...

# 3 Gideon has it summed up more or less correctly. Dr Sadan - you are stuck in the past somewhere because: 1. In Israel you say "everyone knows everyone". What rubbish is that? It may have been so in the kibbutzim in the 1980s and beforehand but is certainly not the case in Tel Aviv today. 2. Long gone are the days when you would be denied a job as an insurance clerk in the UK because of your accent! Even BBC newscasters have been hired with northern and Irish accents. And finally to Tomer Velmer - there is no such place as Piccadilly Square. It's called Piccadilly Circus.

or they will grow into a strong community who support themselves and protect themselves, look at the Asian community in Birmingham coming together (check bbc). It is your kind of attitude that causes such divides in the first place, making people feel that they are not worthy of living the kind of life you want to live. People will flourish given the chance. Rather than stating that it is time to get rid of illegals, perhaps it is time to look at yourself and your attitude.
15. @5 burning tyres??? what planet you
gali in holon   (08.11.11)
on? that ain't true cynic get it straight before bringing it out there!
16. Gail #15 - It's true.
Chaya ,   Bat Yam   (08.11.11)
There was an article about it on ynet recently. In the Jesse Cohen neighborhood. Google it for yourself.
17. VERY UNLIKELY IN ISRAEL
LAWRENCE ,   Zefat (Safed)   (08.11.11)
Israel ,thankfully ,is not full of young west indian niggers.
18. Could UK riots spill over to Israel?
tiki ,   belgium   (08.11.11)
I certainly hope not. Nobody want's to be identified with these criminal, A-social looting thugs, roaming and burning the streets of UK cities, destroying everything that comes on their path. Israel's demonstrations (agree with them or not) are an example of how it is done....with dignity!
19. Lawrence at 17. Spoken like a TRUE South African
Shayna G ,   Tel Aviv   (08.11.11)
I am shocked Ynet even published this comment, you should be ashamed of yourselves. News of the World was shut down in the UK, it happened to them and they were a *real* news paper worth billions, it can happen to you. Bunch of racist appeasing nobodies.
20. Viva la differance!
Froike ,   Brooklyn NY   (08.11.11)
My 2 Cents: Riots are very possible in Israel...However, I do not think that the majority of Israelis would loot stores and steal with impunity.
21. It could happen
sheik rattle & roll ,   USA   (08.17.11)
It could happen. The people in Israel are frustrated that the government taxes them on toothpaste and pays there soldiers 19th century wages. The police in Israel are paid less than Walmart workers in the US. Could they handle mass riots? We hope it never comes to that but never say never.
