For money all these so called cultural & enlightened Icons, artists & Interlectuals of the past & present, would/will 'sell their soul to the devil, any devil. Always have, always will. They are just money grubbing individuals with a very thin 'cultural = artificial veneer.

Raphael ,   Netanya   (08.15.11)
1924, Coco Chanel started a joint venture with the Wertheimer brothers concerning Chanel n°5, she owned 10% and the Wertheimers 70%. She took the opportunity of the aryanazation of jewish business in 1941 to seize the whole company thanks to her nazi connexion.

This field is an awfully broad area. There are good and bad people in any field; the same goes for the Arts. Get a grip.
11. Other collaborators were
Paul S. ,   Toronto, Canada   (08.16.11)
Hugo Boss designed uniforms for the Germans. Sounds innocent enough, but Hugo was no sweetheart. See the documentary "The Sorrow and the Pity" which outlined the myth of the support the French resistance had. Many French collaborated with the Germans even in a small way, and were very anti-Semitic. Coco Chanel was lucky. After the war, she fled to Switzerland with her German boyfriend. Other women who slept with German soldiers were stripped naked and had their heads shaved and then were doused with tar and feathers. Coco avoided all that by running away. When she returned years later, all was forgiven. She died a hero, but she was a scumbag. The French body politic has a lot to learn. Jews were never really accepted there. As Napoleon Bonaparte once said, "To the Jews as Frenchmen, I will give you everything, but to the Jews as Jews, I will give you nothing".
12. #9 I poured Chanel #19 down the toilet
Cynthia ,   USA   (08.16.11)
I heard this report from a fashion design student a couple years ago and followed up on my own. The story is true. Pouring it down the toilet was quite satisfying.
13. #2, "whatever"??? "milly" is a complete fool
dante ,   uk   (08.17.11)
so "milly" could not care less about collaboration with the germans as long as she has her perfume. "milly" does not even have the decency to be embarrassed. fool.
14. #5, another fool. did you ever hear of the resistance?
dante ,   uk   (08.17.11)
btw: she did NOT live in "petain's france". dummy, she lived under the germans. and, it was possible to do something other than what the vichy french did. it is true that most of france was only too happy to assume the position for the germans. it's not hard to see how given the ignorance and folly of some of the tbs posted here.
15. the chanel company is owned by the werthheimers
celine woland   (10.04.11)
In 1924, Pierre Wertheimer and his brother Paul became Coco Chanel's partners in the House of Chanel perfume business. Two years before, in 1922, the Chanel No. 5 perfume had been introduced and Ms Chanel needed the Wertheimers' extensive experience in commerce, their American business connections, and their capital to fully develop and market the product. During their partnership, Wertheimer owned 70% of the Chanel perfume company. now guess who the werthheimers were..they were and are... jewish.
