31. Religion and civilization, explosive brew
Jose   (08.16.11)
The poison of Judaism, ultra orthodox. The den of this obnoxious phenomenon, Bnei Brak.
32. If it sounds ridicules
Paul ,   Jerualem, Israel   (08.16.11)
then it probably never happened, or 95% of the facts have been changed or ignored. This is not behavior ever exhibited in public by the Left, Right or Religious. Obviously an attempt to stir up hatred against the religious, because they are not out in droves to support the Leftist 'tea party' wannabe crowd out protesting.
33. What do you expect???
David ,   On this planet   (08.16.11)
Regardless if the person is a soldier or not, The seculars of Israel make sure every moment to degrade and call the Haredim leaches, lazy people who do not work , sucking the blood of Israel every moment you show hatred towards those people, What do you expect in return love?try to be respectful that is the answer
34. Yoni , NOT TRUE
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (08.16.11)
bus # 981 , as is stated in this article , is a REGULAR line . Six departures from Bne Brak [ 09.00 , 11.00 , 16.00 , 19.00 , 20.30 and 23.00 ] Thus NOT a tour bus . Again one of your lies . References : Egged site .
35. 30 Thanks Charles.Believe me..
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (08.16.11)
i am far from an exception in the Haredi Community, but you don t find that in the newspapers. These are not interesting headlines. Those who write TBs in Ynet are mostly not real Haredi,as the latter only read Kosher newspapers.
36. Respect
Ralph ,   Caesarea   (08.16.11)
Haredim should think about thre meaning of the word Khavod....
37. #34 Egged said it was a special bus,
Rebecca ,   Modiin   (08.16.11)
but they did not say so on the actual bus, hence the soldiers probably thought it was a regular bus, but the passengers and driver knew differently. Egged should be more specific.
38. Kosher Buses?
max ,   washington dc   (08.16.11)
Has Egged Management gone nuts with policy of degrading and humiliating IDF soldiers? It is an insult to all Israeli's and when those that defend the country are treated with disrespect. The Egged management should be drafted to defend the borders with Gaza or given sensitivity training!
39. soldiers humiliated
Iletzter ,   TA- Israel   (08.16.11)
The Ultra orthodox do have a code (at least in Bneir Brak (not Jerusalem neturei karta or such) called "derech eretz". They would never have humiliated a soldier , if it was not deserved. It is evident and obvious that these soldiers' behavior was not fitting and certainly not behooving someone who is in uniform, who should have a different code of conduct , since he represents the State. If this could have happened , I think the Army should open an investigation and find out what triggered such behavior from orthodox Jews in Bnei Brak. It is possible that the soldiers should be reprimanded. Wearing a unform does give a person to have an arrugant and disrespectful behavior, even if he comes from a kibbutz.
40. #23 zichron
solomon ,   bklyn   (08.16.11)
"Don't criticize someone until you walk a mile in his shoes" How do you know what YOU would have done? (No, you don't as thankfully, you weren't there.) There was resistance; many kinds of resistance. It is you who have failed...their memory. Shame on you.
41. Rebecca . 37 . Egged said a "pilot" program
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (08.16.11)
Special buses have'nt any number , this was line # 981 , fom BB to Safed . A regular line . Read what is written . When a bus is a special one , he has NO number , and NOBODY exept the special passengers will board him . Generally they don't even stop at bus stations .
42. David , # 33
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (08.16.11)
If the charidim would work , woulde not live on our tax money , would not try to impose their lifestyle on us , would , all of them , enlist to the IDF , and so on , there would not be any reason for us to give them nice names .
43. perfect journalism
yosef ,   memphis   (08.16.11)
Do we the "readers" not get it? I never thought YNET would be able to demean both Tzahal and Haredi in so few sentences.
44. Israeli Company Motto - "Customer Is Always Wrong"
Seth ,   Washington, DC   (08.16.11)
Aside from the religious aspect of this story, Israeli companies, restaurants, etc. display a remarkably bad attitude towards customers....not in all cases. In a mall in Herzliya Pituah two days ago a customer went up to an employee at the SuperPharm for help and the employee started shouting at the customer, "What's the matter with you, don't you see I'm busy with another customer" They got into a big argument and I've encountered this approach personally. We had dinner with the family and clearly changed one of the dishes we ordered. The waitress comes out with five main dishes for the 4 members of our family (DUH) and she kept insisting we didn't change the order and got very angry. She probably still doesn't understand why she didn't get a tip.
45. This is the problem about giving sectors special rights
Andrei ,   Ramat Gan   (08.16.11)
The root of the problem is the readiness of the System to give special rights to Sectors of influence. This is, in my opinion, the biggest mistake of all the politicians. For the sake of the coalition, they are ready to sell out any sense of right or wrong, The public service and the public space, should belong to every citizen, with no special rights for one community. The day when the State will treat all the Israelis as Israelis, and not make a difference between Haredim Israelis, Masortim Israelis, Agnostic Israelis, Arab Israelis, Druse Israelis, Beduin Israelis, Christian Israelis, and all those who have an Israeli citizenship, Israel will be a Jewish Democratic State, and not a State who protects the rights of one sector or another. Let's have a Constitution to defend the rights of Israelis, and the right to have a Jewish State !!!!!!!!!
46. Soldiers
J.K. ,   Brooklyn USA   (08.16.11)
The question has changed, from who is a Jew,to who is a real Jew,soldiers back to their base, have to give up their seat for people on a pagan pilgrimage, what would have the Prophets of Israel,Isaiah,Jeremiah been thinking about worshipping the dead.
47. reserved seats in special buses
sarah ,   Jerusalem Israel   (08.16.11)
What is this garbage? Why are my tax dollars supporting special buses with reserved seating for ultra-Orthodox draft dodgers, a large proportion of whom don't work for a living? Egged is a public monopoly and should be ashamed--the buses should be open to everyone, even women and soldiers. The charedim on this bus were disgraceful, a disgrace to all of Israel. Close down the special "chareidi" lines, open more lines to the working public.
48. Buses
jenny ,   ramat aviv   (08.16.11)
Does this article help bring achdut...do we need this type of journalism?
49. The IDF are Real MEN!
Linda Rivera ,   New York, USA   (08.16.11)
Thank you, wonderful IDF - Defenders of Israel and the Free World!
50. Go to the Egged Web Site
Michael Davison ,   Ra'anana, Israel   (08.16.11)
There is no mention on the Egged web site of Line 981 being any kind of "special bus" or that seats may be reserved. There is only a special notice that you can order tickets in advance for Mimouna and other specific holidays on the bus.co.il web site. If this is a secret, then how are the soldiers supposed to know there's anything special about this line? Like some of the other poster here, I can remember a time when civilians got up to give us a seat when we got on a bus. The claim that "soldiers don't pay" is a fallacy. The Ministry of Defense pays Egged a monthly sum for providing soldiers with rides. It seems to me that Egged is looking to cover this up, because the treatment of the soldiers on this bus IS shameful. In light of the lack of any evidence on the Egged web site to back up the claim of reserved seats, I know who I believe., and it is NOT the "Egged spokesman" . PR people are paid to lie.
51. Well...
Tom ,   bsas,argentina   (08.16.11)
That´s what I can´t stand about religious men. It is THEY who say who is Jew and how is not? Or is it God? Now, did these religious men, EVER DARE TO THINK!!!!!!! THAT THERE IS ISRAEL ´COS OF THE IDF? DO THEY THINK THAT GOD WOULD HELP OR LIFT ONE FINGER TO SAVE ISRAEL IN 1948 OR LET´S SAY... DURING THE BLOODY HOLOCAUST???? WHERE WAS GOD??? THEN???? AND THEY HAVE THE GUTS TO INSULT AND IDF SOLDIER... NEXT TIME, WHEN THE ARABS COME LET THE YESHIVA DO THE FIGHTNING...
52. How about a protest - ride on all lines going
leo ,   usa   (08.16.11)
through Bnei Brak and boycott the rest of Egged lines? Do it until an apology is issued by all guilty parties.
53. #45, soldiers say humiliated in bnit brak
Elsie ,   Gush Halav   (08.16.11)
Andrei, you hit the nail on the head, i agree with you on every word you wrote.
54. What A Disgrace to Jews and the Torah
EZRA THE PROUD JEW ,   USA-ISRAEL   (08.16.11)
Not to mention, HUMANITY. The Haredim have shamed the Jews for too long. This is not a religious group, it's a cult of sexism, hatred and prejudice (and FAR too much perversion & hypocrisy). I have never seen any group like these aside from Muslim extremists. Perhaps these people should go live in Iran. Az far as the driver from Egged; FIRE HIM NOW! What a bum!
55. bycicle
David ,   Panama   (08.16.11)
Keep the buses for the soldiers, send the haredim on bycicles!!
56. Count me in #5
(08.16.11)
57. Haradim consider themselves better than IDF soldiers
William ,   Israel   (08.16.11)
until the next time they're attacked by terrorists.
58. I Love This Story!
Ariel Ben Yochanan ,   Kfar Tapuah, Efraim   (08.16.11)
B"H - Shows that people finally start to understand that good IDF soldiers don't necessarily make good Jews. Quite the opposite, actually.
59. You're on leo, usa
15. August   (08.16.11)
60. Egged buses are licenced to carry 50+1!
David ,   Karmiel, Israel   (08.16.11)
Legally standing on buses is ILLEGAL! Again the Ultra-Orthodox are dictating while they give nothing! The spit on our soldiers who are the only thing that stand between them and Arab massacres of Jews! The soldiers do travel free but the IDF pays Egged for this. Maybe YnetNews could find out how much?
