1. No way!
Observer 1 ,   Chrangbegbo, Ghana   (08.17.11)
No way! Let them go ahead and drink the cup of humiliation and utter defeat to the last drop. Whoever is helping these BSh*ters out of a TOTAL failure must be in bed with them. I call it abetting. Pals, come on, carry on. You are so close to it. Don't give up. Winners don't quit, they say. You are about to win such a mammoth defeat, why abandon. No way, I scream.
2. THE PHOTO OF ASHTON AND CLINTON
Ian ,   Newcastle upon Tyne   (08.17.11)
It looks like before and after snaps for a face-lift advert. No wonder Ashton looks the more miserable. THREE CHEERS FOR ISRAEL!!!
3. I HOPE THAT THE PALESTINIAN ARABS TAKE THIS IN
Ian ,   Newcastle upon Tyne   (08.17.11)
Abbas and his PA cronies are pursuing their own prestige and interests, not the people's. THREE CHEERS FOR ISRAEL!!!
4. Not first time YNET tries disinformation
Muayyad ,   Palestine   (08.17.11)
The article is a hoax - the decision was taken at the heighest level of PLO/PA/Arab League to approach the UNSC/UNGA for the request to admit Palestine as a member state.
5. Upon making a move at the UN which contradicts both...
Jehudah Ben-Israel ,   Qatzrin, Israel   (08.17.11)
...UN Security Council Resolution and the Oslo Accords, Israel will: 1. Apply its laws to the entire "Area C" and large parts of "Area B" of the West Bank, thus annex these area into the state of Israel. 2. Totally close the border between Israel and Gaza: No one and nothing will either come and go through Israel. 3. Israel will call once again to the "warring parties" of the 1967 Six-Day War, and try to reach with them, and only with them - not including the PLO of course - an accommodation of peaceful coexistence by apolying UN Security Council Resolution, 242, as is. 4. Israel will, based on UN Security Council Resolution, 242, and in light of the fact that it sees the Jordan Valley as its continuing security border, set out to begin the establishment of a new Hebrew city in the Jordan Valley, to be located between Jericho and Beit Shan. The city will serve the argirultural communities in the region that have been neglected for too long. 5. The "Palestinian Authority" will continue to function as an autonomous region, but with mimimal assistance from Israel, the US, Canada or Europe. Actions have consequences, and that apply to the Arabs as well, local and regional...!!
6. They never miss an opportunity to miss an opportunity
Jordan Ispalestine ,   Los Angeles   (08.17.11)
I honestly hope they do this. Israel and the U.S. should cease funding the PA...Israel should annex B and C the next day, uniatterally dictating the borders. Kick out the waqf, kick out all Jordanian citizes from Judea and Samaria, declare their recognition of Ramallah as the capital of "Palestine" and end this charade known as the peace process.
7. Abbas knows even Hamas is not with him
William ,   Israel   (08.17.11)
They announced they were firmly against the UN bid. Sort of puts a damper on the unity govt and UN bid than anything the US or Israel can do.
8. Since when can a non-sovereign State join ICJ?
William ,   Israel   (08.17.11)
As Intl law is written, non-sovereign entities are not subjected to intl laws and conventions which gives them free hand to commit atrocities and war crimes. If the "Palestinians" can join the ICJ, and presumably present lawsuits against Israel, does that mean they will also be subjected to Intl Law? If so, I would make an effort to choose several other signatory countries to start many lawsuits against the PA, PLO, Hamas, and everyone else in a bid to indict them on terrorism and war crimes charges and jail every last one of them. In addition, if the "Palestinians" can join the ICJ, then so can the Kurds, Tibetans, Basques, Tamils, etc. and that opens up a Pandora's box the world's oppressive regimes may not want to see.
9. #2 Ian - which is after?
Eric ,   Tel Aviv & NY   (08.17.11)
10. A "Palestinian state" has never existed, is not now in
JBI   (08.17.11)
existence, and it is not likely to ever come about. The United Nations, wisely, set the basis for peace in the region: United Nations Security Council Resolution, 242. Yet, the United Nations in 242 didn't call for the establishment of an additional state in the region, Palestinian or otherwise. In fact, the United Nations, in 242, didn't even make use of concepts such as "Palestinians" or "Palestine". It is time we all respect UN Security Council Resolution, 242; apply it, as is, and bring about some peace and stability to the region.
11. Muayyad "Palestine"
David ,   Haifa, Israel   (08.18.11)
what do you think you will get in September? Only a one way ticket home to Jordan
12. Abbas
Ronny Judah ,   Melbourne Australia   (08.18.11)
I wish they go ahead with their September bid so we can cancel all the OSLO aggrement's and then give them no food water electricity or any medical help. Let them wrought and disappear as these people have been disregarded by their own arab's .There is a good reason for it,see for your self.No countary want's them.Even the syrians are slaughtering them and Turky who sent Flotilla's to Israel is not saying a word yet when Israel killed 8 people on the Flotilla in self defence turky wants us to appolegise and took us to court.
13. The Palestinians never wanted a state
Falafelis ,   Montreal, Canada   (08.18.11)
In the past 44 years, the so-called "Palestinians" managed to make the world believe that they are fighting for the liberation of their state. Their true goal, however, was to attract the world's sympathy and to deligitimize Israel. Well, their plans are being carried out pretty well
14. #4 - and they all share their full conversations with you?
William ,   Israel   (08.18.11)
Sure, the Arab League, PA, PLO are all so forth coming that no one should be surprised, right? They are definitely honest to the core. Oh wait, there is that little nasty issue of the Palestine Papers which none of the "Palestinians" knew about and the PA tried to deny. Just a Zionist hoax, I guess.
15. #4 - they might have revised their position
William ,   Israel   (08.18.11)
after repeatedly getting European, American, and Australian rebuffs on their plans. Sure, Abbas knows he probably could get the votes - from Arab nations (no real effort there) and 3rd world nations who have an issue with 1st world nations (they hate everyone). But, the US has their Veto power, the Europeans are the guys supporting your welfare asses now, so without their support you are....just Arafat's illegitimate children again. Smell that? It's 1988 all over again.
16. #5 - sounds like a plan. Let's get started.
William ,   Israel   (08.18.11)
17. why have we not brought charges against pa, hamas to icj?
ralph   (08.18.11)
they routinely commit crimes against humanity and other such silly ideas.
18. #4 Muayyad - No way Jose!
BEN JABO ,   ISRA EL   (08.18.11)
The facts are that your proposed state is an ILLUSION, a puff of smoke that will vanish on 9/21/11 The General Assembly does not have the authority to create binding law by a simple vote. It is not a global legislature, just as the UN is not a world government. Its resolutions are symbolic. Never mind the fact that the UN charter never gives the General Assembly such authority. Just think about it: Does anybody believe that in creating the UN, sovereign states like the U.S. and the Soviet Union handed over their own sovereign authority to a body in which tyrannical regimes and democratic ones, friends and allies, get an equal vote? That if, one day, the General Assembly decides to grant independence to Quebec, or Minnesota, or the Confederacy, that suddenly it will be binding on all member states, including Canada and the U.S.?
19. Why would anyone object to an independent Palestinian state
Marcus Silverman   (08.18.11)
The state of Israel was created by a unilateral declaration of independent statehood, subsequently recognized by the UN. So there should be no problem when the Palestinians present their case for independent statehood to the General Assembly in September, unless you happen to be a supporter of illegal occupation and settlements. like the Europeans and Americans.
20. #19 because they are air-heads
(08.18.11)
21. Netanyahu
Israel Israeli ,   Tel Aviv   (08.18.11)
Netanyahu has full backing of Zionist Israelis who voted for him and support the Likud platform. He is personally hated by the extreme Left. Yet, since his election he has made every effort to implement the extreme Left platform and ignore his own voters. The one time he did what his voters wanted, telling Obama that Jews have a right to a homeland, his popularity jumped. Why can't Netanyahu do what his voters want: tell Holocaust denier Abbas that refusing to negotiate and threatening to declare a state is an abrogation of the Oslo Accords, start massive Jewish building in Judea and Samaria, remove VIP rights from Abbas and his croneys, and disarm Dayton's army.
22. Abbas now in a loose loose situation.
Rebecca ,   Modiin   (08.18.11)
If he moves forward with a full UN independence request he will loose all his funding. While the 3rd world/Muslim block will vote for him, they dont fund him. And if he pulls out or starts talking to Israel again, he'll be dead by the hands of his own people. Shame.
23. #19 marcus
solomon ,   bklyn   (08.18.11)
The state of Israel was NOT created by a unilateral declaration of independent statehood. It was created by facts on the ground, including state institutions founded before Israel came into being. It also did not call for the annihilation of its neighbors.
24. #19 marcus - part 2
solomon ,   bklyn   (08.19.11)
1. While the Yishuv [when they were called "Palestinians"] participated in discussions regarding division of the area, the "Pals" have avoided discussions recently. They did enter into negotiations with Israel, but once exposed by Wikileaks, it became obvious that they would not be able to fulfill any agreements reached. 2. Abbass has stated (a) they will not give up on their demands even if a peace agreement is signed. [It would therefore be an ersatz 'peace agreement'], (b) they will not recognize Israel as a Jewish state [exposing their true intentions of not conceding Israel's right to exist] and (c) they will not change what they teach their children (even though they agreed to this in the Oslo Accords) [which is to be martyrs and kill Jews]. Summary: The two situations are not the same. The first (Israel) was real, the second ("Pals") is superficial.
