1. Oh yes !
Sagi   (08.19.11)
And live in a ghetto once again,no thanks.
2. Fences do not stop rockets or mortars
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (08.19.11)
What we really need to do is re-establish our deterrence factor. So long as the terrorists believe that they can attack us without paying too heavy a cost they will continue to attack us. We must convince them that the price is so high that they and their entire family will die from any attacks.
3. Tall fences make good neighbors...very tall, even better.
david's SLING ,   Atlanta   (08.19.11)
BUILD THEM HIGH BUILD THEM LONG BUILD THEM SOON. KEEPS THE DREK OUT!.
4. Yay! In da ghetto again!
Avi ,   Herzliya   (08.19.11)
5. #4 Ghetto
Joe ,   Toronto Canada   (08.19.11)
Sometimes Ghettos are protective in nature as were the original Italian Ghettos. Better alive within the ghetto walls, then dead in an open bordered country!
6. How about accepting Arab Peace Initiative instead?
Ali ,   Washington, DC   (08.19.11)
That's true long lasting protection.
7. In America we have a saying
Sean Green ,   Pasadena, USA   (08.19.11)
"Good fences make good neighbors." Many of us are angry Obama ceased work on border fences to stem the flow of illegals and drug dealers. A problem miniscule compared to terrorism Israel faces. We do this even though we have great relations with Mexico and their people. it's just common sense
8. Fence
M ,   boca, Israel   (08.19.11)
Don't fence me in. Another stupid idea, the terrorists will simply cut the fences. Better idea reconstitute unit 101, go wake up Sharon, get Raful, Meir Har Zion, Kotchka, go into Sinai and murder all the terrorists and criminals.
9. No #6, it isn't.
Israeli 2   (08.19.11)
If it were so, peace would reign. The Ali Babas are just an unruly tribe. I would do anything to defend my family. The Israeli leadership must do everything to defend Israel.
10. Arab peace Initiative?
Yossi ,   Boston, MA   (08.19.11)
And what exactly is this initiative/ What about its intentions? What does it take into consideration? What interest are satisfied by this plan ? I doubt if you are familiar with the plan details. Why don't the arabs sit once and for all and check what did they contribute to the world during the 20th century If there is any meat in the reply, we'll accpet the plan
11. #5
Jarda ,   Czech Republic   (08.19.11)
Doe's it mean that Jews are not able to live with another else?
12. Future fence along Egyptian border only a part of the..
Alexander ,   Tel Aviv, Israel   (08.19.11)
...solution. Israel needs to: 1) Expel Arabs from ALL of Israel - including Jerusalem, Golan Heights, Judea, Samaria and Gaza. 2) Israel needs to annex Judea, Samaria and Gaza. 3) Israel needs to dismantle the myth and lie of "Palestine" or "Palestinians". There is no "Palestine" and there are no "Palestinians". The country is called Israel and the Jews are the historical population and owners of the land. This needs to be hammered into the heads of the world population. 4) Israel needs to deal militarily, without going into deatails, with Iran, Turkey, Syria, Lebanon, Hamas Hizbollah, Egypt and Saudi Arabia. 5) Fences are good, provided that all Arab, Iranian and Turkish armies, navies and air forces are non existent and when all terror organizations such as PFLP, PLO, Fatah, Hamas, Hizbollah are gone with the wind and when the populations of the Moslem countries in the Middle East have been dramatically decimated by military action. When Israel wields unmatched military power from the western Mediterranean to Pakistan and India, we can truly speak of a safe situation. And to all talkbackers in here that oppose the fence: if you can't tell the difference between national secury fences and barriers and enforced Jewish imprisonment in small isolated ghettoes in central medieval Europe, there is something seriously wrong with you. Israel is not exactly a district, block, borough or city district, and Israel is not exactly a village or a city. Israel is a NATION, a COUNTRY. Many countries have erected barriers: USA has one alongside the Mexican border. There is one between North and South Korea. EU is planning to build one on the Greek-Turkish border to prevent non-European illegal immigrants from entering Europe. What is better: to "isolate" Israel with fences to protect Jewish lives or having open borders where Arabs, Arab terrorists, Jihadists, Islamists, drug dealers, smugglers and illegal African immigrants can roam freely into Israel and destroying Israel's existence, Jewish demography and character and Israel's survival? If you are normal you know what is the right choice.

Jorge ,   Israel/USA/Argentina   (08.19.11)
Arabs live with arab. Czech live with Czecz Do you have any problem if Jewish people live with Jewish people? I am able to live any place but not by people like you
14. On a Recognized Border
Mark ben Josuf ,   USA   (08.19.11)
A fence or wall on a recognized border will have no objections. Determining that border is another matter. And Gee - A good double wall on the Gaza border would have stopped the RPG that hit the school bus. Build the foundations deep and mine between - at least 100 meters down. That should support 500 up of concrete and another 500 of mesh.
15. peace initiative
Voltaire ,   Washington D.C.   (08.19.11)
Arab peace initiative? Whats that??
16. BUILD, FENCES AND HOMES.
Bad assed Jew. ,   United States   (08.19.11)
AND ANNEX AND BUILD BABY BUILD!!!!!
17. FENCES, MOATS, BROKEN GLASS,
Bad assed Jew. ,   United States   (08.19.11)
CROCODILES, TIGERS, MINES, AND SHARP SHOOTERS. KEEP THE HEATHENS FROM THE GATES. The Saudi plan was nothing more than an ignorant attempt to rid Israel of her Jews. To hell with the Saudi's. Their people make a dollar a day, wait until their own slaves revolt.....
18. India has built fences between it and
Chris ,   USA   (08.19.11)
Bangladesh and also Pakistan and continues to build them. Over 4,000 miles already up. Israel needs to do the same as part of its protection
19. Silly
Michael Steiner ,   Bahrain   (08.19.11)
Fences do not keep anybody out (they've dug tunnels under every single fence we or our neighbors ever built); they keep us in. A little known fact about the conflict in Israel is that it didn't start because of politics, economy, religion or natural resources. What happened was that those who came in the first 3aliyah wave had European notions of property and started fencing off their (legally bought) land. That didn't go down well with the locals who were used to roaming, together with their livestock, wherever they wanted. THAT is what caused friction, long before anything else. Just a little tidbit of information... Anyway, we need intelligent solutions, not brute force and concrete fence. There's a reason the Iranians and their henchmen fear the Mosad far more than Tzaha"l.
20. I'm fine with have a Jewish state in the land of israel with
BK   (08.19.11)
big tall fences keeping the rest of the world out. May we live in peace in the new Jewish Ghetto.
21. # 6 why not recognize Israel instead?
Bad assed Jew. ,   United States   (08.19.11)
your Iranian arms buyers must have spent every dime for weapons while leaving their people starving and demonstrating for democracy away from your gay mullahs.
22. #2 Correct, but they would stop infiltrators on foot
Sue ,   Los Angeles   (08.19.11)
I am thinking of the Fogel family in Itamar.
23. Fences backed up by mines and a death zone
MARK KLEIN, M.D. ,   OAKLAND, CA   (08.19.11)
There needs to be a no man's land death zone operated with remote controlled machine guns.
24. #14 Mark bJ MASSAGES the key word - RECOGNISED
CK Tan ,   Singapore, Singapore   (08.19.11)
But unlike Mark bJ's FLUFFY pontification on borders, these are the FACTS : - the PLO does NOT recognise Israel or its right to EXIST - fatah does NOT recognise Israel or its right to EXIST - hamas does NOT recognise Israel or its right to EXIST Had the Arabs in the 1940s AND the palis in the 1960s ACCEPTED Israel and its right to EXIST and adhere to PEACEFUL co-existence, the extra fencing measures would NOT be required.
25. To Ali at No. 6
Vlad   (08.19.11)
So basically, what you're saying is withdraw to practically indefensible borders, give up Judaism's holiest site, and accept a refugee population that outnumbers Israeli Jews? That's "long-lasting protection"?
26. Fences are only partial solution.
Terry ,   Eilat - Israel   (08.19.11)
We need a proactive policy, in other words, preemption. Bring the fight to our enemies. We have good intelligence information but we don't act on it. The proof is that we immediately knew who was responsible & exactly where they were. So, the obvious question is why didn't we kill them last week? We knew the Sinai was being infiltrated, we know Egypt has lost control of the Sinai. We should be conducting military operations in Gaza on a daily basis, pound Hamas into the ground. We watched for years as Hezbollah built up it's capabilities - bunkers, missiles, infrastructure, communications, we watched them take over Lebanon. A fence does not solve the problem. I'm not sayin we don't need fences & other obstacles to terrorists, what I'm saying is that the way to stop terrorism is to kill terrorists, non-stop.
27. answer
ahmed ,   egypt   (08.19.11)

28. 26 CK - A Mutual Problem
Mark ben Josuf ,   USA   (08.19.11)
Many posters here don't think there is such a thing as a Palestinian, certainly not one who has the right to live west of the Jordan River. The PLO has recognized Israel. But the last time borders came up, Netanyahu would not even touch the envelope that the PLO proposal was in. He has nominally acknowledged their right to exist, but his party has rejected that idea firmly. Indeed, the majority of the Knesset parties reject the idea of two states and refuse to acknowledge the Palestinian right to exist. If I am mistaken, please let me know how many Knesset members belong to parties who do. I did not massage the word, I used it intentionally. As for Doc Klein, if one side has a death zone, the other is likely to adopt the idea, too. And they will work to make it so. Look at the attack on the school bus. If you deny their humanity and right to life, you justify their denial of yours. Or what does "never again" actually mean?
29. what do light railways & security fences have in common?
zionist forever   (08.19.11)
ISRAEL IS USELESS AT BUILDING EITHER. The Jerusalem light rail is years late, millions over budget and still all the trains are doing is going up and down the track without any passengers. The Gaza fence, money was allocated by the Knesset to build it but for some reason not much building was done. The fence in Judea & Samaria, after about 10 years its still not finished. We are not building the Great Wall of China here just a concrete & chain link fence so why is it taking so long? When there is an incident we react by saying here is money go build fences. The fence construction starts but then when things calm down and we get a false sense of security fence building seems to slow right down. There is another attack because of the fact there is no fence the government sets up a commission to see what went wrong, they come back report its because there is no fence and the government promises to build but as usual the urgency to build slows down when there is calm. In this country we have alot of knee jerk reactions but very little in actual long term policy and when we don't make policies we don't make efforts to make sure its being followed through.
30. Better alternative to fences - ISOLATE Gaza, WB for good.
Dr. L. Brnd ,   San Diego, USA   (08.19.11)
Seize a 3-4 mi wide strip of Gaza between rafah and Khan Younis in the uninhabited dunes, and annex it to Israel. Now smugglingfrom Egypt ends, too wide to tunnel under. Annex the narrow (5 mi. wide Jordan River Valley strip to Israel, only Israelis, no Arabs live there. With WB and Gaza cut off from smuggling and direct contact with the Arab world, borders don't matter with the PA entity, because they get no food, water, electricity or access to harbors, crossings or airports except on condition of friendly relations and good behavior. Discredited EU and UN ignoring Syrian genocide can now be safely ignored, just do what is needed to protect Israel, as USA does with drones to Pak thugs whether Islamabad likes itor not - and with hundreds of civilian dead from "collateral damage".
