31. #6, weird Israel offered to negotiate based on it
Danny   (08.19.11)
in 2002 and 2007. Olmert even offered to come Riyad. Weirdly, the Arabs went silent, excluding Hamas, Hizbollah, PIJ and Syria, ie everyone Israel is actually fighting and who never accepted the peace plan in the first place. Almost like the offer wasn't sincere......
32. Walls and fences
Sagi   (08.19.11)
do not keep invaders out, they are for cowards and scared folks. Real people take the fight to the enemy territory and destroy it.
33. Bus driver: I thought they were soldiers repairing the fence
observer ,   Egypt   (08.19.11)
So, THERE IS already FENCE at 200 Km from Gaza.
34. Where is millionaire Gaydamak's promotional trick
observer   (08.19.11)
The problem is that will he finance trips of Eilat's people to Ashkelon OR to Haifa?
35. Israel must surround itself with fences?
Rich ,   Toronto, Canada   (08.19.11)
Who in their right mind wants to live in a cage.
36. Yes, expand Festung Israel... but while
seadog1946 ,   Arthur Kill, NJ   (08.19.11)
walling off the Sinai, please be ever so careful so as not to damage artifacts from The Exodus.
37. Thanks
michaelpielet ,   boca raton, Israel   (08.19.11)
Terri, thanks. If we knew where the terrorists were before last week, what were we saving them for. All terrorists should be killed all the time in real time. Maybe, just maybe, if the terrorists had to worry more about staying alive they would have less time to prepare terrorist attacks. The victims of this week of terror, really a war against the Jewish presence in the land of israel, are the corban, sacrificial victims of a failed israeli security policy. The problem IS NOT THE ARABS ITS THE JEWS And their government.
38. Invest in big fences?
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (08.19.11)
Oh, I don't think so. How about we invest in big ordnance?
39. Killing Egypt's children will not pass unpunished anymore
observer ,   Egypt   (08.19.11)
Jewish blood is not saltier than Egyptian one.

Rich, you made aliya and failed. Now you try and justify your failure by attacking Israel whenever you have the chance. When I visit my cousins' houses in Toronto they all live in a "cage" surrounded by high fences. When I drive from Niagara Falls, Canada to Niagara Falls, New York there is also high fences at the border in the areas not separated by the Niagara River.

I beg to differ. I do not think any of you animals (no disrespect to animals) have a right to live, period. Note for the record that I did not massage the words. Please name one -- JUST ONE -- significant contribution to civilization and humanity to which the ersatz "Palestinians" can lay claim. Just one. JUST ... ONE.

Shut up. No one is in the mood for your stupid observations today. "Unpunished," you say? What will Egypt look like without the Aswan Dam, huh? Think we can't do it? Think we wouldn't? Guess again. Guess again.
43. @ author- yes! @4 says the bubble in Herziliya
Observing ,   globe   (08.19.11)
44. blinded by Israeli media, why?
observer ,   Egypt   (08.19.11)
Israeli Apache helicopter shot dead four Egyptian policemen and wounded nine other policemen. Egypt summoned the Israeli ambassador, protested! and demanded investigation. Egypt stopped short of reporting to the UN security council, why? Israel breached the Two parts of the treaty; namely limited military presence on areas on BOTH sides of the border, and secondly application of the UN resolution 242; no talk with Palestinians or Syrians and no addressing of the refugee question. WHY? Israel will not go away with it. Killing Egypt's children wont go anymore unpunished.
45. History will show that
John Prophet   (08.19.11)
Israel, by failing to drain the swamps welling up around it, sealed its own fate!

How twagic. How twuly, twuly, twagic. Imbecile, you need to keep in mind that we can take back Sinai pretty much whenever we wish. That day, dahlinka, might be coming sooner than you realize. And there is nothing that you can do to stop us. "Killing Egypt's children," yada, yada. Yeah. Right. What part of "we can destroy you whenever we want" do you NOT understand?

Oh, I think not. We are going to drop the vermin into the sewer to which they belong. Trust me ....
48. Israel, invest in paying Arabs to leave.
Chaim ,   Israel   (08.19.11)
Rather than turning Israel into a high tech ghetto surrounded everywhere by fences, Israel should invest in paying Arabs to leave. Arabs are already permanently leaving Judea and Samaria by the tens of thousands annually - without Israeli compensation. Moreover, a large majority want to leave. With a fair compensation plan, we could solve the problem in a few years. Paying Arabs to leave Israel is a one time investment with permanent returns.

Accept an Arab Peace iniative from the Arab people with their track record of lies and deceit and total lack of respect for the sanctity of human life, would be the same as Israel commiting HARI KARI or suicide both are the same thing.
50. They Want theProtestorsGone,Permanently
Noah Lev ,   HollywoodUSA   (08.19.11)
i admit that during Oslo 1, I too was naive. I thought there could be land for peace. I liked Bibis reciprocity, joint patrols, economic blocks. Boy, was I mistaken (as was Israel). For 100 yrs, the Arabs have wanted thearea Judenrein, devoid of Abrahams people..except fora few. Mark Twain saw the area for what it was...marshes, desert, a few small cities thriving under harsh conditions. From Nasser, to the current Muslim leaders, they have not changed one iota. Only Jihad, gradually, to the eventual Judenrein. Arabs supported WaffenSS divisions..but Rommel was routed before ethnic cleansing 500,000 Pales Jews. Hez/Hamas/Islamic Jihad, Moammar, Assad, Muslim Brotherhood,, Fatah, DFLP, PFLP, Al Qaea, Taliban..hatred of Jews unites them., just as hatred of Jews united NAZI Europe. Its really simple to understand, when the blinders are taken off. Every Jew in Israel/USA, looks the same to those who fire Kassams and Grads. Get it! They kill with dispatch....yeshiva students, couples touring, police, army, etc. But, Israel's protests while perhaps sending a message, are at the worst time...In Sept. thousands of Arabs will force their way through and around these protestors. Its not about 2 states, its about no protestors, no Jews, and no Jewish Israel. Ask Abbas.

Your degree of humanity is clear, crystal clear. As are your views on race.
52. SARAH B
yazeed ,   Riyadh, saudi arabia   (08.20.11)
so are you American or Israeli? Was your grandpa living in Israel? or wait.. there was no Israel... it was called Palestine.. and my grandpa was living there, until you all came from Europe claiming the land based on 3000 years old bible.... accroding to your bible Jews lived with other civilizations there... and we happened to be one of them.... and now Israelis come back after 2000 years and simply want to clean the area from all other ethnicities.... You are so racist, and ignorant

Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / israel   (08.20.11)
I have yet to be convinced that Arabs are human. Please -- what can you offer that will disabuse me of my view which, by the way, is based on facts in evidence. Something "crystal clear," if you don't mind. (Good luck with that one.)
54. To SARAH B
yazeed ,   Riyadh, Saudi Arabia   (08.20.11)
Jerusalem was ruled by muslims for a long time... AlAqsa mosque is one of the holiest muslim places.... Muslims have been defending the land (most inhabitants of palestine all converted to islam) from western occupiers over the past 2,000 years... European crusadors succeeded in defeating the muslims and ruled palestine for some time, but eventually got kicked out.... the new European crusadors will eventually be kicked out again....
55. #28 Mark bJ - what utter RUBBISH
CK Tan ,   Singapore, SIngapore   (08.20.11)
(retry) When did the PLO recognise Israel OFFICIALLY? State the EXACT details of the OFFICIAL document. Your REFERENCE to what the posters think or write is just your RED HERRING. What COUNTS is that the REJECTION to recognise Israel or its right to EXIST by the PLO, fatah and hamas are NOT just some EMPTY talk. Their OFFICIAL positions are ENSHRINED in their CHARTERS and they ACT and behave ACCORDINGLY. Thus your ORIGINAL post re "On a Recognized Border" is also MOOT. You intentionally MISLEAD by referring to Netanyahu and his party ONLY. Cos the palis do NOT negotiate SOLELY with Likud. In FACT, it is with WHOEVER is heading the Israeli govt. You LIED that Likud "rejected (the palis' right to exist) firmly. Cos the Likud Charter do NOT state such am OFFICIAL position. And rather than simply saying " the majority of the Knesset parties reject the idea of two states and refuse to acknowledge the Palestinian right to exist", SHOW PROOF of your words and that it is the OFFICIAL position of ALL the parties. Remember - you MAKE the claim, thus you are RESPONSIBLE for the proof.

Kudos to the author for this piece.
57. Not just fences!!!
RAYS ,   USA   (08.20.11)
STRONG FENCE SYSTEM FINE BUT NOT THAT ALONE. That plus IDY Iron Domes and air strikes will NEVER deter attacks from Gaza (or elsewhere). The only deterant that will work (and it would) would be to take out KEY infrastructure that will get the populace to demand terror stop. Examples ; take out several petrol stations and any power plant after warning civilians to vacate such places. If another attack , take out fishing vessels (after warning civilians to vacate). Killing a few terrorists here and there is no deterant for these people who care little for human lives, but key things blown away will have a positive effect.
58. fences sures
Àlex ,   Barcelona, Catalonia   (08.20.11)
I'm agree with this article. I think that it's very necessary for the security of Israel the instalation of a fences sures in the frontier with Egypt and Jordan. If Israel don't have a wall or faces in the border the terrorists can enter in the israelí territory. Congratulations for your article. Àlex

I am not from Saudi... I am a palestinian refugee living and working in Saudi... It's sad to see the different comments on this site, and how people are so anti-arabs... This region suffered from so many political disputes and wars over the last century..... it was colonized by all different western powers and it's horrible to be in the middle east... Israel is one of the best governments when it comes to domestic issues... but the sad thing is that they never took advantage of the changes happening in the Middle East over the years to sign a peace agreement... Things have changed... most Arabs are sick of this conflict, and are ready to strike a fair deal with Israel.. A deal where muslim holy sites are ruled by muslims,,,, and palestinians are given a state.... What would happen if Arabs and Israel sign a peace agreement? Will have open trade, Arabs go to Israel for tourism, go to Jewish universities for good educations.. Israeli funds invest in neighboring countries... Iraqi, Egyptian, and other ME jews can visit their ancient homelands as well.... I am a big fan of the Jewish culture and know that it shares so many attributes with the Arab culture.... Even hebrew is very close to Arabic... Jews where living with Arabs for centures with no problems, why can't this happen now? I know that some people would say that they where themmees, but this is only a taxing issue, taxes paid by muslims called zakat and taxes paid by non-muslims are called jizyah... I don't know.... I have many Jewish friends and I know that they are nice people.... We both are sick of conflicts and wars.... and they just don't seem to stop..... First, Israeli Arab conflict, now Iran expansionist dreams, and governments against people..... More conflicts means worse economic situation, which means more terrorism then more conflicts again..... it's a horrible cycle.... It's just sad....
