What does it have to do with Messrs. Abas, Fayad or any other P.A. official. If anything, the P.A. has done a marvelous job in the West Bank, which is--thanks to their efforts--now quieter in terms of security and the economy since any time in its in the history of the conflict, including when Israel exercised full control over it. I think the P.A. most definitely demonstrated it DOES deserve a state. And at any rate, in international law, the right to self-determination is not assessed on the basis of whether a nation "deserves" a state or not. You really will grasp at the flimsiest of straws, won't you. Face it: A Palestinian state is coming, whether this September or next September or the September after that. The sooner Israel accepts it, the less painful it's going to be.

Abbas and the PA are responsible because they signed an agreement with Hamas for a unity government; however, even if they had not signed such an agreement, the PA is still responsible as the representative.
