1. Good stuff, fair enough :) (end)

2. More goodwill gesture needed /sarc.
Thomas ,   USA   (08.21.11)
Under pressure of T. Friedman, the Kenyan and the piano legged tramp Israel will offer more goodwill gestures to placate Hamas and Ashton.
3. New rules in the south
jacques ,   nsw   (08.21.11)
Unfortunately no matter what treaty you sign with any Arab state, it will not work ever whether in short term or in the long term - it was an elusion to start with and it will only come back to haunt you. The Arab states are not renowned for truth and honesty in their words or treaties, even among themselves. They are a very complex society, to Israel this is a wake up call,
4. A modest suggestion
Mike caton ,   USA   (08.21.11)
Israel has in the past and up to the present, apologized to everyone for everything. I suggest that there be instituted a new ministry within the Israel government: THE MINISTRY OF APOLOGIES.
5. to simplistic, doesn't go far enough so useless
ralph   (08.21.11)
as a working document. should have started with, with each rocket aimed at civilians - a crime - 4 hamas mansion will be destroyed, with each mortar shell a terrorist or hamas infa-structure destroyed, target killing now and then lets discuss egyptian issue. also 24 hr surveillance followed by immediate target killing. and this includes all hamas leadership. no more rallies or funeral parties.
6. Gaza
atta ,   paris   (08.21.11)
IDF must occupy the axis of Philadelphia and impermeable to the border with Egypt, it is best to avoid the bombing in favor of the blockade and the targeted elimination of terrorist leaders
7. Ron, get a backbone.
Terry ,   Eilat - Israel   (08.21.11)
The treaty with Egypt is dead. We urgently need to train for desert warfare, we need more tanks, many more troops. We should already be deciding which targets to bomb in Egypt. All of your advice is appeasement BS, out-of-date, this kind of make-believe only harms our security. Of major concern is the re-militarization of the Sinai by Egypt. Every effort should be made to prevent this from occuring. We should be lobbying the US Congress to end aid to Egypt. Hopefully, Obama will be out of office soon & someone sane will replace him. And, our first order of business should be to give Ehud Barak the boot.
8. 5
Gil ,   Tel Aviv   (08.21.11)
What are you talking about? They are already targetting assinations and infrastructure. this piece is not that well written. Maybe the translation lost this but I don't understand the sentence: "A lack of resolute response by the IDF to hostile acts in Sinai resulted in Hamas and other terror groups believing that terrorist operations from Sinai were legitimate and would draw punishment." - you mean WOU;DN'T draw punishment??
9. Terrorists "strategic succes".
tiki ,   belgium   (08.21.11)
There are too many of them lately. As long as Israel behaves like a patsy, AFRAID of offending the Europeans, enraging the Muslims & forcing it's citizens to live onder an 'umbrella of rockets for years now, the terrorists will have many more 'strategic successes. The 'new ground rules should be simple:1 rocket 'without an adress = 50 rockets 'return to sender and scr.. the Europeans, the UN & all the rest of the babbling anti semites. It has to stop & stop!
10. Time to investigate NGOs as Lieberman says
Brian Cohen ,   Judean Peoples Front   (08.21.11)
In the face of repeated Palestinian war crimes, the NGOs remain silent. Lieberman is correct - these phony organizations that claim to fight for "human rights" must be investigated and their funding cut off. "Whether or not attacks actually result in civilian casualties, they are in violation of international law, which also prohibits attacks aimed at spreading terror among the civilian population. The patterns of attacks and statements by members and leaders of Palestinian groups also indicate that they have no qualms about launching attacks against civilians and that they in fact carry out such attacks intending to kill and injure Israeli civilians. Such attacks constitute war crimes." Amnesty International report:ISRAEL/GAZA OPERATION ‘CAST LEAD’:22 DAYS OF DEATH AND DESTRUCTION July 2, 2009
11. Annnex Aza & expel the illegal squatters there to Egypt
Tomer ,   Herzeliyya   (08.21.11)
..which is where they belong.
12. #7, well said, very well said.
Chaim ,   Arad   (08.21.11)
13. stop beating the dead horse
bernard ross ,   st anns bay jamaica   (08.21.11)
egypt does not want peace with israel, avoid any agreement that puts more egyptian troops in sinai: this is what they want and perhaps they set it up.
14. re: 4, Ministry Of Apologies
David ,   New England   (08.21.11)
We can send a clone of Obama to be it's spokesman
15. Israel deserves a new and better g'vmt
david ,   NJUSA   (08.22.11)
I don't mean Tzipi the Parakeet or Mofaz the Mouse
16. Sucker punched again
Dave ,   Miami, USA   (08.22.11)
What happened to Israeli ingenuity? Once again, Israel fell into a trap, this time set by the Egyptians. Not only was Israel forced to apologize to the Egptians, but the apology was rejected by the Egyptians as insufficient. So again, Israel was made to look bad on the world stage.
17. The Allies' WW II victory holds the key to the solution..
Chaim ,   Israel   (08.22.11)
"Deterrence" has no chance in Gaza whatsoever. We are facing a genocidal enemy whose only purpose in life is to attack Israel. The real solution is to retake Gaza forever and totally demolish the enemy. That's what worked for the Allies in WW II and it is the only solution for Israel today. The Allies' WW II victory holds the key to Israel's solution.
