1. We know the real cause: corrupt rabbis
Brian Cohen ,   Judean Peoples Front   (08.23.11)
There is no doubt the strife in the world today is caused by the corruption of the rabbis in the Knesset, and those who they are beholden too in the haredi-political power echelons. Money and power have corrupted our rabbis, and turned them blind to the word of Hashem. Instead of striving for mitzvot including love and respect for each other, they have replaced that with the love of money and power that comes with forcing tens of thousands of haredi to be talmidim chachamim, when most of them should be out working for a living and supporting their families. Never in the history of the Jews has Torah study become big business like it is today, with hundreds of millions of dollars paid out pretending that every haredi shlemiel is worthy of a life of Torah study. Shame on the rabbis for their corruption. Shame on the rest of us for allowing this to happen and doing nothing to stop it.
2. he is right! we all must pray to GOD.
limor ,   israel   (08.23.11)
all bnei israel must take on them some mitzvah even a small one. when GOD is on our side no power can stand against us.
3. Its Not Funny, Its a Truth you should accept
hadad ,   U.K   (08.23.11)
Why do you keep making fun of your selves and us as a gewish nation? Why you dont see this type of headlines in America when a church leader or bishop say some thing like that? or in muslum countries when a religios leader say that? when they face aproblem? Why do you try to be and make us anation of non beleavers? What will you gain with such headlines? one thing you need to understand.Israel is a JEWISH country .We are jewish AND THAT MEANS WE ARE BELEAVERS ,so stop making fun of yourselves.
4. Our ''sin'' is Ehud Barak as DM.
Terry ,   Eilat - Israel   (08.23.11)
Another sin is the treaty with Egypt, it was a sin to cede the Sinai. The Oslo Accords should be counted as a sin. The disengagement from Gaza was most certainly a sin. But, I think it's also a sin not to serve in the IDF. Living in the 15th century is a sin, that's what I think.
5. STOP BEATING YOURSELVES UP
LAWRENCE ,   Zefat (Safed)   (08.23.11)
Enough with the guilt. These things happen because we are surrounded by savages.
6. Does This Apply to Riots?
yaakov ,   TA   (08.23.11)
When yeshiva students riot in the streets over alleged religious transgressions, does this logic apply? Only the strictest supporters of these rabbis would believe these statements.
7. hilul hashem
golan ,   modiin   (08.23.11)
this rabbi is a disgrace to torah study.
8. delusional mentally retarded
John de Frece ,   Ramat Gan   (08.23.11)
Amazing isnt it that in the 21st century people actually believe this claptrap
9. Disgusting and revolting.
Yakov ,   Tel Aviv   (08.23.11)
This is revolting, hurtful and profoundly disrespectful. To the victims and their loved ones, I hope none of them hear or read this. Of all the people to say such a "thing", coming from those whom we seek solace from in trying times, is repugnant. I don't care if you think this, but to add such insult, to such an injury is unforgivable! Dear Rabbis, please in the future, refrain from laying the blame for terrorism on our lack of Torah study. This is unforgivable. Instead, please provide support and comfort. What you have done today is a SIN!
10. Such stupidities also in other "beliefs"
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (08.23.11)
Recently there were 4 deaths in an European music festival . There too a cleric said that it was a punishment from a god because of thisd "indecent" music and behaviour . The same dark middle ages beliefs .
11. The real world
Norman Gellman ,   Rehovot   (08.23.11)
The Rabbis must be in a different world than the rest of us. Torah study did not save anyone during the holocaust or during the Roman Invasion which also saw the Holy Temple destroyed. Torah study is a good thing but we must remember that G-d helps those who help themselves. Perhaps the terror attacks and the will to destroy Israel by the fundamental Muslims is a test by G-d just as were the wars described in the Torah. In any case it is a farfetched notion that Torah study by itself would prevent terror against us.
12. seems televangelists have competition now
mike ,   israel (formerly usa   (08.23.11)
13. Always made to sound worse than it was meant.
Rebecca ,   Modiin   (08.23.11)
These Rabbis mean well. They really believe, (as do some of us) that studying torah helps and that the lack of it endangers us all. But the press will always make sure that they sound like nuts and are blaming those who were hurt. That's not what they are saying. They're blaming themselves right now.
14. Rabbi's
Ian ,   Israel   (08.23.11)
These Rabbi's have rocks in their heads, they wouldn't even make good Taliban. Yeshivot should be disbanded and the hundreds of millions of dollars spent on these corrupt institutes, diverted to real causes.
15. #8 voodoo
Michael ,   Haifa   (08.23.11)
We are just competing with Haiti with our own voodoo men
16. Ehud
#13 Rebecca   (08.23.11)
One and a half million children were gased by the Nazis. Somebody didn't study Tora enough? Maybe the at least 1 million Charedim who were gased too? I don't want have anything to do with such a God (or rather this concept of God). I am also sure that there is another Rabbi claiming that only 1 person died as the result of the attacks by 150 rockets because he prayed so well. This is superstitious nonse which should have nothing to do with Judaism. In any case it's revolting and don't blame the press for it!
17. Israel is doomed for destruction
Eyal ,   London, UK   (08.23.11)
and this is the reason.
18. Dear Mr. Rabbi Sir
Sagi   (08.23.11)
Your thoughts are ugly and your words even more so. I hope that your "God" in heaven punishes you for your vile outburst.
19. At least somebody understood the way of Abraham, Moses,David
Manoj ,   India   (08.23.11)
Looks like some people have understood how God really expects us to walk in faith, how He worked during the days of Abraham, Moses and David and during period of the prophets. Walk Of Faith is difficult and most people seek material cause to material events and ignore the spiritual cause. It is unfortunate that people are going away from the spritual world. God will be eager to help if we get in line with His word. He would fight the wars as He used to in the days of the old.
20. WWII/Shoah- Bein Hazmanim?
Yossi ,   Toronto, Canada   (08.23.11)
21. The attacks are caused by Iran's "Jihad Islamic" troops in
Rivkah   (08.23.11)
Gaza that are not controlled by Hamas. Isaiah the Prophet did say the latter days attack on Jerusalem will be caused by three sins, so sin in a factor in attacks. The three sins are cheating the poor, women with wanton eyes, and flaunting sodomy. If those three sins could be corrected in Israel, that would go a long way to protecting the nation from attacks since YHWH would be appeased on those issues.
22. Medieval superstitions
Israeli grandma   (08.23.11)
Torah study seems to affect some "rabbis' " clear thinking. We are surrounded by a cruel and primitive enemy using modern weapons, this is the real position today. Haredi leaders should be encouraging more of their young men to get military training to improve the moral quality and power of our modern army.
23. rabbis and terror
bernard Landman ,   raanana israel   (08.23.11)
scum

25. Turning Judaism into a sect
Raphael ,   Netanya   (08.23.11)
Won't help the jewish people to survive. We are neither a sort of Scientology nor Jehovah's witnesses, and we do not need gurus such as these false prophets.
26. Slow News Day?

29. What we don t understand may...
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (08.23.11)
sound stupid.Believers think the creator rules the world. There is no effect without cause.Everybody has the right to think for himself what is the cause of what happens in South Israel.Rabbis have the same right. No need to mock them,if you have a different opinion.
30. 8 John,concerning ethics the 21th...
