3. Great article!
Zoe ,   Los Angeles, USA   (08.23.11)
Thank you, Nechama.
4. Respectfully, this isn't exactly about honour.
Terry ,   Eilat - Israel   (08.23.11)
It's more about delegitimizing every attempt to defend ourselves, in a larger sense, to delegitimize the Jewish State. Both countries, Turkey & Egypt, are looking for pretexts. Nothing we do will change their hostile orientations.
5. Pathetic!!
Yara ,   Egypt   (08.23.11)
And again, the Israelis play the role of the victim. You guys, are pathetic. I pity you.
6. maxie #2 yes it even worse than Turkey
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (08.23.11)
Your government has violated nearly every provision of the Camp David Peace Accords. Your country has allowed massive amounts of weapons to enter into Gaza in direct violation of the above peace treaty. Your country receives $2.8 billion a year for not keeping that peace treaty. Your soldiers have murdered Israeli civilians and soldiers on numerous occasions and have never apologized for those actions. Your troops were right behind those terrorists and at least one of them aided in the terrorist attack. You have a lot to answer for, start doing it and stop calling for more Egyptian war crimes.
7. Wrong
maxie ,   Egypt   (08.23.11)
i am asking you only one question..dont you see getting in our lands and killing our soldiers is a crime?!!!!no because you always change the topic just to divert my attention to things you have no prove on it.. no1 give me a prove that my country allowed that and if so..why cant you protect your own borders ..plus alot of militants came already from your land in sinai and made explosions in here..see? you now allow millitants come to our lands..maybe you allowed them during revolution to destroy egypt and have a reason to invade sinai .. no2 mention to me that our soldiers killed any of your civilians..because it never happened and if it happend the second day israel would be in sinai..your dream lands.. now you have alot to answer and please dont asnwer my question with a question cuz i can do that all day..my question is: israel allowed millitants to cross our borders and explode piplelines .would that be an excuse for us to invade your land and kill your soldiers by mistake and we wont even apologize for our pride???answer it
8. no 5 is right and also wrong
(08.23.11)
okay you are right that we tend to play the victim card and that we ought just to defend ourselves at any and all costs to our land and people, that ought to not make us appear like victims anymore, thanks for your insight
9. To: No. 7
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (08.23.11)
Don't you see that allowing terrorists to operate from Egyptian territory and killing Israelis is a crime? Israel did not allow militants to cross from Israeli territory into Egypt. And be careful with the loose talk about invading Israel. The last few times you tried, it did not work out all that well for you. I seem to recall Israeli troops crossing the Suez Canal and nothing standing between them and Cairo. We're no longer shy about invading Arab capitals. Just ask the Lebanese. You are not immune.
10. Victory not apologies.
Chaim ,   Israel   (08.23.11)
The last thing Israel needs to do is apologize. Israel has nothing to apologize for. What we really need to do is fight to win. Not to "show them a lesson". Not for "deterrence". For total resounding victory. It is a disgrace to send the I.D.F. into combat for any other reason except total victory.
11. Maxie
Ian ,   USA   (08.23.11)
First of all, Egypt is at fault for allowing smuggling tunnels run from Gaza to Egypt, this allowed terrorists to cross into Egypt and attack Israli citizens FROM Egypt. Second of all, Egypt is supposed to guard the border----those Egyptian soldiers did not try to prevent teh attack, ( and maybe even fired on the Israeli soldires) Maxie, you are a victim of Arab conspiracy theories---pipes were blown up by egyptian bedouins or sinai based terrorist---no one crossed from Israel to blow up those pipes, you are clearly deluded

fad egypt   (08.23.11)
our security forces killed many israelis before and that happened for example in 1985 and 1990 many israelis were killed the terrorists and the gunmen who attacked al arish and the police stations and killed two officers and civlians and bombed the gas pipeline ve come frome gaza not israel israel has no ground control over gaza now for many years egypt did nothing to stop the smuggling of weapons from sinai to gaza hamas is obtaining dozens of rockets and projectiles every week through the tunnels from sinai if israel must apologize to egypt for what happened so at least the hamas government must apologize to egypt for the terrorist attacks which took place this year in sinai and also for sharm , dahb and taba suicide bombing also for killing two border guards in 2008 and 2010 and for storming our border in january 2008 also i wanna tell you that a month ago our security forces opened fire on an Israeli jeep inside israel by mistake and israel did nothing http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340,L-4101867,00.html salam

14. Egypt doesn't need Israeli apology, but Israel does
observer ,   Egypt   (08.23.11)
The MFO in Sinai has reported that Israel breached the treaty twice; when troops crossed border and when shooting Egypt's soldiers. The Peace Treaty is a strategic asset for both Israel and USA. Egypt gave it up long ago. It's Israel itself who need its apology. can you figure out the US letting down its prime ally in the ME, EGYPT.
15. no apology to terrorism! END!

17. Is Israel caught in the middle of a power struggle?
Ian ,   Newcastle upon Tyne   (08.23.11)
It occurs to me that the Turkish and Egyptian governments both have regional leadership pretensions. Each is trying to show the rest that it's the tougher with the State of Israel to gain Brownie points. That seems to be the game that the Turkish and Egyptian governments are playing, but there's no real reason why the Israel government should cooperate with it like a football. I don't think that Israel should apologise to Egypt or Turkey.Firstly there's nothing to apologise for;if any apologies are due, they're due to Israel.Secondly,I don't think that there'll be any consequences for Israel from refusing. Neither the Egyptian nor Turkish governments will relish the loss of face abroad if the Israel government keeps on facing them down every time they screech for apologies. They'll tone it down before they become laughing stocks at home and abroad. THREE CHEERS FOR ISRAEL!!!
18. the latest 'in' thing to do.....
tiki ,   belgium   (08.23.11)
Asking Israel to apology! For everything. From defending itself to killing terrorists, etc., etc. The idea behind it.... Israel will be asked to appology for breathing & existing, just you wait & see. Israel should do what has to be done and stop this nonsense of appologies now. Stop accomodating these Arabs in their primitiv way of thinking.
19. Standard diplomatic procedure
Philos ,   Herzliya   (08.23.11)
would be to apologize to another state if one accidentally killed a few of their personnel regardless of the situation. Imagine if Egyptians were chasing terrorists and in a shoot out killed by mistake some Israeli soldiers? We'd demand a formal apology over the matter too (although judging by these hotheads on here you'd want war). Remember the Egyptians are fighting the same enemy over there and this whole idea of national honor is just really lame and archaic. Only Rednecks and neo-fascists are the ones to go on about it in the West; more important is human dignity.
20. Do we ever want peace?
Leon ,   NY, USA   (08.23.11)
It is easy to want revenge. It is difficult to seek peace. The real fight is against anger. Can you all not see that the world is changing? Why is it that all it takes is one person out of a million to spark hatred? One idiot with a rocket can destroy a peace that people gave their lives to achieve!
21. We need facts...
Beary White ,   Norway   (08.23.11)
We have to be correct here.... To my knowledge (!): Terrorists invaded Israel just from a nearby egyption surveillance post. They were dressed in egyption uniforms according to media. Then, after the deadly terrorattack, some of the terrorists returned onto egyptian soil. The IDF tracked down the perpetrators and accidenly had to eliminate some individs in egyptian uniform, believing they could be terrorists... If Egypt asks for an israeli apology for those dead soldiers, accidenly killed, it should be ok to give an apology. But Israel should NEVER apology for tracking down terrorists in any arab country, since we know they will be protected by their goverments, just look to Turkey and the Erdogan figure. And there are no reports that the egyptian soldiers tried to eliminate the terrorists when they returned...

if extra-judicial killing on non-armed persons is legitimate in Israel itself, so is extra-territorial targeting legitimate.
24. Are you kidding me!??? Disgusting
Bar ,   New Zealand   (08.24.11)
I just find this article so incredibly biased that it's just disgusting. ''civilians in Gaza were also hurt, although not deliberately'' Are you serious??? 1396 Palestinians were killed during operation cast lead. 1396 human beings. Schools were bombed, children and women were among those who were murdered. Innocents. You can not call every Palestinian a terrorist, a Palestinian person is just as well a human being and deserves to live. Don't be so arrogant, you're only destroying the state of Israel like this. http://old.btselem.org/statistics/english/casualties.asp?sD=27&sM=12&sY=2008&eD=18&eM=01&eY=2009&filterby=event&oferet_stat=during Good luck with reading about what's really going on. This is an NGO fighting for human rights consisting of Israelis (Yes you read that correctly) fighting for justice.

You are speaking of Hamas and the PA, not Israel. But you are right about them. Congratulations.
26. Investigate and apologize if needed
Ilan ,   Ariel   (08.24.11)
If Israel did wrong it should apologize.
27. #14 observer - what a BRILLIANT post
CK Tan ,   Singapore, Singapore   (08.24.11)
Love how you masterly CITE the peace treaty and then go on to INVERT the chain of events. You simply CANNOT get the real FACTS into your "observer" skull that the Egyptians FAILED to keep their end of the SECURITY agreement, thus resulting in the MURDER of Israelis - mostly CIVILIANS - and necessitating Israeli RESPONSES. But hey, keep your ASTUTE observations coming cos my TOES need as many LAUGHS as they can get.
28. #24 chill
Israel Israeli ,   Tel Aviv   (08.24.11)
Cast Lead was a defensive operation against Hamas attacks. Legally speaking, all deaths are Hamas' fault. 2/3 of the Arabs killed in Cast Lead were Hamas combatants, people religiously obligated to commit genocide. According to the Geneva Convention you must blame Hamas, not Israel, for the remaining 1/3 non-combatant deaths. In any case, Israel killed 2 combatants for every 1 civilian. Your allies US and UK typically kill 2 civilians for every combatant. But please explain. New Zealand supports the occupation of Afghanistan. Maybe you can explain why you are there, and why you've used indiscriminate airstrikes to killed so many thousands of civilians.
29. You should apology to God
Bassem ,   Cairo, Egypt   (08.24.11)
Wash the blood on your hands, stop your killing machine and just rethink how long you will be able to live between your neighbors using the force, violence and occupation concepts? Change is on door no one can stop it. The future of this area is linked directly to a new vision for the mutual living. • Apology to the Palestinians, Syrian, Turkish and the Egyptians and let them apology to you. • Push for the two countries solution, not only but help the new neighbor country economically, politically and support them to live to give you the chance to live. • End the siege and allow others to support them. • Withdraw from Golan and open a new era with the new Syrian regime. • Update the treaty with the Egyptians to assure the full protection of your both boarders. • Work to build a strong strategic axle between you, Turkey and Egypt as this will be more efficient in protecting your existence than your American fellowship. Just rethink.

solomon ,   bklyn   (08.24.11)
Your post may have some good points, but should be directed at Egypt (and other arab countries) as well. However; the treaty already assures full protection or borders. Egypt did not carry out it's full obligations. And another 'minor' point you overlook is Hamas' and the PA's insistence on annihilating Israel.
