1. Barak : how do you know Egypt is not -
Barbara ,   Haifa Israel   (08.26.11)
escalating its force to attack us?
2. So that's how it begins? As long as the moronic Israelis
tom ,   tel aviv   (08.26.11)
(that's us) have their "Rotschild Revolution" all should be well I guess! The face of Ehud Barak is the face of Israel at the moment. The next big war is creeping toward us as we speak and nobody seems to bother with "protest", as long as the cottage cheese is as cheap as in France!
3. Egyptian troops in Sinai
ILetzter ,   TA   (08.26.11)
As long as some peace remains, I suppose it is OK. When war will break , which is probably only a question of time, it will be a problem.
4. Barak Must Go Now
David ,   Sweden   (08.26.11)
His appeasement, blunders and cowardice has cost Israeli society thousands of lives and untold amounts of damage, both financial and emotional. How long can this spineless creep continue? He needs to be replaced now and since Bibi has no spine to do it, that should be the target of the next so-called 'revolution'. But am I naive to think that the liberal Tel Aviv crowd won't care about that? After all, who cares about our safety as long as cottage cheese is cheap for them.
5. Whiskey Tango Foxtrot
John ,   Alaska   (08.26.11)
Okay - Ehud Barak just committed treason. This is the same sort of thing Quisling did to Norway. Because of respect for his past, the appropriate course of action is simple removal from office.
6. Step by step, terms of treaty down the toilet.
Terry ,   Eilat - Israel   (08.26.11)
The ONLY condition that won't be reneged upon is that Egypt keeps the Sinai. So, when the Muslim Brotherhood either entirely controls Egypt or at the very least, dominates the Egyptian legislature, Egyptian support for Hamas will be total. And, as Egypt's economy tanks, what will the demagogues use to distract attention from their failure? I'll give you one guess. We want to pretend that Egypt will act rationally. That's an unsupported assumption. The lessons of history tell us that this assumption is false. So, here we have another stupid decision, a blunder in a long list of blunders, by Ehud Barak, serial bungler. And Netanyahu goes along with this stupidity? This is, of course, typical of Israeli thinking, a short-term fix & a long term disaster. We are governed by fools.
7. Israel will "ALLOW" weak weak weak
Daniel ,   Jermyn   (08.26.11)
Does Israel have a choice ? There is NO peace with Egypt. We are always the convenient scapegoat. How many tanks ,helicopters, and men,are allowable ? 1,000 tanks , 100 helicopters, 200,000 men? Sounds like 1967 all over again The noose is tightening -may hashem save us
8. Terry @ # 6
Philip ,   Afula, Israel   (08.26.11)
You take the liberty to call Barak and Bibi fools but without suggesting any solution to this very complex issue. So how about presenting your alternative for solving this problem.
9. #1; Yep! Barak = Chamberlain!
David ,   Karmiel, Israel   (08.26.11)
This government, headed by a prime minister who cannot make decisions without appointing committees for this and committees for that, is endangering the security of Israel! Egypt under Mubarak was one thing but Egypt today is being run by the same military that was defeated over and over by Israel and is catering to the will of the Egyptian people's hatred of Israel and who support of Hamas! We cannot even count on the support of the USA as the Obama Administration is pro Arab and betrayed one of its staunchest allies, Hosni Mubarak! Time for this Ali Baba Government to go and hopefully, a sane new government will replace the lunatics who are running the asylum!
10. Don't trust Barak's judgment in any way
Rachel ,   US   (08.26.11)
And I'm beginning to doubt Netanyahu's. Does Moshe Arens think this is a good idea?
11.  apart from barak knows Israel will be at war with Egypt
avrom ,   bet shemesh   (08.26.11)
utter madness
12. To #8 Phillip
Abraham Nachmias ,   Petach Tikva IL   (08.26.11)
Dear Phillip, you must be glad, you may be the only person in Israel who likes Barak! Please!!! We cannot continue with this man driving Israel to hell! We need elections now and you will see were your loved Barak will be, at home!!!
13. We need new elections and to sweep all
jason white ,   afula, israel   (08.26.11)
the m.k.s out of office. Then we need to make sure only those that served in the I.D.F. can sit in the knesset, vote or work in government. bibi made a big mistake appointing barak. barak is a failure as a tactician. This is a multi front war and not a commando raid. We are here to stay and not to go back home after the job. We are being endangered by this fool and we are not being prepared to go on the offensive in the north or the south. We are not being prepared to defend Israel with the maximum force in September. We need to practice how to destroy crowds of the enemy and not disperse them with noise or chemical irritants. We will be defeated in the end by bibi, barak, livni, peres and moo-fass.
14. Barak the idiot...
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (08.26.11)
If it were me, I would nuke Egypt instead of inviting the idiots to send their army to Sinai...
15. #12
Philip. ,   Afula, Israel   (08.26.11)
I did not express my love for Barak or Bibi.My point was quite simple, if you want to call these two politicians fools then you [Terry] should be able to present a logical and balanced alternative counter argument .Maybe you have some better ideas? In any event I am genuinely interested in seeing somebody present some alternative and not just dismissing the PM and DM as fools as that contributes nothing.
16. receipe for murder
michel eisenfeld ,   france   (08.26.11)
M.Barak why not to invite directely al kaida and iran troops in sinai? the next confrontation wil lcost much more jewish lives thanks to you.
17. #8 Philip, Afula - Israel
Terry ,   Eilat - Israel   (08.26.11)
I'd say that there is a general consensus on Ehud Barak being, at the very least, a fool. Netanyahu should know better, but he's a politician with short-term thinking. Here is the disconnect - tactics are supposed to be part of a long-term strategy, in other words, steps to arrive at a goal. In Israel, we are pretty good at tactics, lousy at long-term strategy. And, often, even the tactics are blunders because they aren't based on anything but convenience, risk aversion, appeasement, or narrow political interest. First off, our intelligence on Gaza terrorist groups is good. We don't use it effectively. We need to target terrorist leaders non-stop. The group that carried out the Eilat attack should have been killed well before the attack took place. Second, it is common knowledge that the Sinai is filling with terrorist groups. Yet, we did next to nothing to protect the border. Third, we can use drones to increase surveillance of the Sinai. Fourth, when necessary, we can strike within Sinai. Let the Egyptians scream, we have nothing much to lose, our ''relationship'' ended with the fall of Mubarak. Fifth, we have many options short of invasion to punish Hamas & this includes standing up to Egypt & using them to punish Hamas. We need to insist forcefully that we expect Egypt to abide by the terms of the treaty, no slippery slope.
18. This is exactly what we did with the Pals
Brian Cohen ,   Judean Peoples Front   (08.26.11)
Hey, the Pallies told us - we need weapons to fight the terrorists among us. So what did Rabin (Barak's leader at the time) do? He gave them weapons. What did they do with the weapons? They turned them against us. Instead of thousands of heavily armed Egyptian troops - let them send tens of thousands of lightly armed Egyptian policemen, and a small heavily armed force of Egyptian commandos who can go kill the terrorists when the police find them.
19. Barak for president...
Avi ,   Israel   (08.26.11)
20. Terry
John ,   Upper galilee   (08.26.11)
They maybe that greedy but surley they can't be that stupid. These decisions are, I hope arrived at by carefull analysis of well educated political and defence stratagists and not 'stam' pulled out of a hat like some magician would a rabbit.Anyone with a an eye on the geopolitical map evolving, unfolding across the middle east over recent years and also a little forsight can clearly see what's going on here.it's not rocket science. The arab/islamists are slowly mobilizing, slowly tighting the noose around the neck of western so called democracy, slowly choking us, their way.So if someone like me armed with only 'google' knowledge can see, then I can only assume that some of our greatest minds the very people who ultimately make these statigic moves also see and regretably react rather than act accordigly to what is growing around us and here at home right under our feet. For some of us,yes the price of and not talking about the latest iphone but simple cottage cheese and shoes for the kids are important, but we'er not that stupid and I dearly hope the government are not either.
21. dismal history
Edith ,   Beer Sheva, Israel   (08.26.11)
Let's look at Barak's history in government and his "tactics" and "strategy" regarding Israel's neighbors. Barak offers Arafat dream package without any mandate from the people of Israel, unleashing yet another wave of terror from those who want "peace" only when there is a camera pointed at their faces. He is totally mum for years as Egypt collaborates with terrorist smuggling arms to Gaza via tunnels. And now he trusts Egypt- that is being taken over by the Moslem Brotherhood- to put more Egyptian soldiers and weapons in Sinai, in direct contravention to the treaty? This "brilliant military strategist" bases this trust in Egyptians who are most probably NOt our friends, judging by their diplomacy, media outbursts, and laxity? WHEN will Israel finally and forever give this arrogant ignoramus the BOOT? Israel WILL lose one of its big cash cows, Eilat as a tourist center. For WHAT???? The Egyptian track record is dripping in blood.
22. Israel needs to shove Barack
August 26 2011   (08.26.11)
where the sun don't shine. And make absolute certain he will fizzle out there NEVER to return.
23. NO NO NO, no need to worry about
Moragh   (08.26.11)
BARAK, he's the slime that can slither anywhere once the 'big day' comes around. Now let me put it bluntly and I hope YNet lets this remark through... FUCK Barak! No need to worry about him... he'll slither right out the country to his own overseas hideout. Bibi, AWAKEN! do you really want to go down that far dragging your Homeland with you?
24. No doubt
Paul ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (08.26.11)
Arabist Obama, Hop-Along Hillery pressured their puppets in the Israeli Government. Say goodbye to what's left of Israeli Independence. 'Social Protesters', stop protesting for your self-centered needs and protest the anti-Israeli leaders in this government. If you are capable anymore of seeing the difference.
25. Ehud Barak - Retire and bring in a man like Arik as DM !
Ben Zion   (08.26.11)
You tried and failed as a politician - nobody is perfect..........so what .....?.For the sake of Israel : bring in a man like Arik into your office and retire - you did very much for Israel as a soldier ( you ARE a hero - kol ha kavod !! ) but you are not a politician !
26. #20 John, Upper Galilee.
Terry ,   Eilat - Israel   (08.26.11)
You have too high an opinion of politicians. ''Our greatest minds'' don't go into politics, most people don't like swimming in a sewer. Even a cursory study of history tells you that politicians are most often stupid or worse. The very last people in whom we should place faith & trust are politicians. In a democracy, it is the responsibility of the electorateto be critical, informed, educated, & suspicious of politicians, We do not worship ''leaders'' but see them for what they are. Modern politicians sell us BS, that's the bottom line.
27. Terry
John ,   upper galilee   (08.26.11)
your right,it was very naieve of me to think we live in a perefct world where a governments policies are based on the needs, security and wellfare of it's people. So a politition is a politition is a politition, then who can we look to and trust to see us out of this dire situation if not a politition, after all we consider ourselves a civilized society ,or must we reduce ourselves to the same state of anarcy and lawlesness we see not just round these parts but also reciently in london to put things right and save ourselves
28. #6Unfortunately it is the Treaty down the
DT ,   TA Israel   (08.26.11)
toilet and not Barak.
29. BURCK MUST GO Now
z ,   Brussels Belgium   (08.26.11)
I agree with the writer. BIBI if he is not doing that . For the sake of our country send him home. Other wize it will be your responsibility.
30. As long as they're breaking the rules,
Devorah   (08.26.11)
this should be a joint operation with Israel. That would be worth the price of admission.
