tom ,   tel aviv   (08.28.11)
32. Medinat Yehudi Israel
Susya Bar Dror ,   IL   (08.28.11)
It should be possible that Israel changes its name from Medinat Israel to Medinat Yehudi (Jewish State of) Israel. Other countries used to change names like shirts. I.e., Egypt into VAR and back. Also Libya did. Further to that other states call themselve "islamic state of". Nu?
33. Then YOU won't be a State...
Todd P. ,   Manchester, NH USA   (08.28.11)
If Hamas refuses to recognize Israel, then the rest of the CIVILIZED world WON'T recognize "Palestine".......
34. Who pays the bill picks the wine
Jerome ,   NZ   (08.28.11)
Abbasy! The EU pays millions a year to keep you and your lazy useless society fed. They have every right to dictate whatever they want. If you are not happy, return the money. The US will soon cut the aid , so you guys will have to earn a living by WORKING on more hand -outs
35. EU should threaten aid cut-off to PA.
bob kirk ,   las vegas usa   (08.28.11)
The EU needs to threaten an end to aid to the PA , as the US did, iff they seek UN vote. Abbas the terrorist won't recognize i.e. accept a Jewish state; therefore the Palestinians have no right to create the 23rd Arab state and expect recognition.
36. #29 Right line but wrong conclusion
David ,   Shiloh Israel   (08.28.11)
Daniel, you are a bold man, I see that in your bold text stating where you belong? Yes I agree about Israel continuing to govern the 'territories' but what other countries have a greater right to annex this land then Israel itself? Check the Bible and you'll notice that Shiloh (in the so- called territories) is prominently mentioned in connection with belonging to Israel, centuries before the first Muslims came on the scene. If you're an athesist, then check it out in person, there is an excellent archaeological site here that proves the same point. Daniel, Jews have a right to live in on our ancestral land, in fact Jews have a right to live...period!
37. No Jewish State
Norbus ,   Jerusalem   (08.28.11)
We remain strong when we are under no delusions as to what the world around us intends for us. Ahmedinijad says it bluntly. Others want it but do not deem it politically correct to say it as clearly as they mean it. Attendance at Durban iii tells a story
38. response to number eighteen
ben   (08.28.11)
Ahhh The Romans called them Palastinians ,,, What was that about 2000 years ago
39. Abbas dreams jewless Israel.
Istvan ,   BUDAPEST HUNGARY   (08.28.11)
I repeat, the main reason of this sad situation is the total lack of effective israeli political propaganda.
40. #5 too late
Israel Israeli ,   Tel Aviv   (08.28.11)
Zippy Livni and the Left have already declared their belief in an ethnically pure Arab state in Judea and Samaria. Netanyahu has already agreed (against the Likud Constitution) to an Arab state in Judea and Samaria. Abbas, on the other hand, is faithful to the Fatah charter, PLO charter, and Saudi "Peace" plan: no Jewish sovereignty in the Middle East.
41. How is this news?
Avi ,   Tel Aviv   (08.28.11)
Nothing is new about this... If you insist on all or nothing I suggest you embrace minimalism first.
42. Make Paris, London, or Berlin your Capital
Richard   (08.28.11)
And you abbas, don't tell us that the world must recognize pirates, deviants, crooks, killers, thieves, beggars. You and your stinking " beloved brothers " had 63 years to build something for yourselves; instead, begging, stealing, and killing, became your trade-mark. You are nothing but despicable residue of mankind. ----- Sh...t Europe can have you, since you control a great deal of it.
43. Take Paris, London, Berlin etc ---- PS:
Richard   (08.28.11)
and please take Ashton as your FM
44. #38 - If I begin to call people "moonbats"..
William ,   Israel   (08.28.11)
will I pave the way for them to take on a concocted history and develop a narrative of "Moonbats", after which they will demand a State of their own as a unique ethnicity? The Romans called the region (not the people) "Palestine". Not after a specific person, but after a specific place - a province in Syria - as a way to cleanly cut Jewish ties to their holy land (after ethnically cleansing them from the region) and to add insult to injury. It's the same pattern Stalin used when someone became his enemy. After either arresting or killing the person, ALL photos including that person were systematically re-touched to wipe out any memory of that person. Check out the wide array of historical commentary on just the Roman conquest of Israel and the name change to Palestine. There are many. However, none of them provide any basis for the "Palestinians" claim to the land or historical revisionism that ties them to Jesus and Philistines (two very different groups).
45. Palestine was Jewish! Get some history lessons!
Isac   (08.28.11)
The facts are: The name "Palestine" is the cognate of an ancient word meaning "Philistines" or "Land of the Philistines".The Hebrew name Peleshet (פלשת Pəléshseth)- usually translated as Philistia in English, is used in the Bible to denote the southern coastal region that was inhabited by the Philistines to the west of the ancient Kingdom of Judah!!!! The today's so called Palestine is the biggest scam of the world!
46. After September, Abbas will be spinning in the wind.
Noodles ,   Coney Island   (08.28.11)
47. Typical of so called Palestinians
Emma ,   London   (08.28.11)
They want everything but are prepared to give nothing. They deserve nothing.
48. No45: Palestine IS Roman name for Jewish stateish
Au. ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (08.28.11)
Romans renamed Judea into Palestine after they were angry about Jewish rebellions (which they enslaved & sent in Europe), so Palestine IS name for Jewish teritorries ;-)
49. Abbas has a PhD !!!!
Ehai ,   London. England   (08.28.11)
The State of Israel is not a Jewish state. It is an Israeli state. A State for Jews. Judaism is not a nationality and is more than a religion. Judaism is a way of life. But it is not the only way. Just like there are males and females in this world there are distinct differences amongst peoples in the choices they make about the way they live together. Abbas must recognize Madinat (Semitic word for STATE) Israel for what it is: a secular State. STATE : Noun = an organized community under one government. STATE : Verb = express words in speech or writing. Now the Semitic word “Madinat” is a noun composed of the preposition “m” = of, from., and the noun/verb “din” = statute/legal system. Moreover, exactly who does Abbas think Palestine will be sitting with as neighbours in the UN General Assembly? Does he believe The State of Israel will give up its seat there, return to the land of Israel, pack up everything Israeli and go where ......... I say to hell with Abbas and his evil scheme to deny Israel its existence. To hell with all his accomplices and their complicity in their plan to destabilize the region with Islamic fundamentalist military domination. Go away and rethink what you state in public and in private. Then when you have really understood what it means to hold a PhD Mr. Abbas then, and only then, open your mouth to the world and be sure not one human being will be in danger of any outbreak of violence because of your utterance. You style yourself as an intellectual! So let’s see some intellect, intelligent discourse about non-violence and humanity. If you don’t want to do this...... goodbye and goddamn you.
50. this is coming from the same man who told us we weren't.....
daniella ,   israel   (08.28.11)
doing enough for peace and don't want it, yet he cannot even recognise us. But honestly we can't say this is surprising, it is typical of arabs to want to take take take but god forbid they give anything in return. The saddest thing is, majority of the world is going to support him in september when it counts for him, and turn a blind eye to his real agenda.
51. Abbas just threw away the Oslo Accords
Isaac   (08.28.11)
The Oslo Accords were the biggest mistake that Israel ever made. It turned into a game where Israel made concession after concession and the Arab world would draw another new line for further concessions by Israel. Obama is in trouble with the polls; so if Abbas thinks he is going to push Obama or Susan Rice or Sec. of State Clinton into another yelling match with Israel, he is sadly mistaken. Also, Europe and the US are having difficulties with their economies. Right now, nothing would make the GOP presidential candidates happier than to recommend cutting off aid to the PA - both as a show of political support for Israel and an economic move. If Abbas is so interested in doing a kabukie dance and tossing the Oslo Accords down the drain, then Israel should respond accordingly.
52. not new- this attitude is described
b l i n d e d ,   WORLD   (08.28.11)
in the book of the Haj abbas wont accept Israel whatever his internal deliberations He is an arab and true to his people - although he as well as everybody knows- that they are wrong they are only giving face
53. THANKS ABBAS, CASE CLOSED
Mark from Georgia ,   USA   (08.28.11)
One of the conditions to even be "considered" for an entity is that you honor all past agreements made. The act of unilaterally going to the UN violates this condition (Honoring past agreements). The fact that Abbas states he will NOT recognize Israel, is another violation of the International standards. Two violations of many. These are not my opinions, but International Law which is clear cut and has precedents with denials on many other bids for countries. So any legal analysis proves the Pals simply do NOT meet any of the standards which I've posted at 4-5 times. They are clear and concise, and they are indisputable International Law. For any country that votes in favor of a Pal state, that state has violated the International law, as set down by the UN itself. It's just that these discussion are boring and don't bleed. You know what they say in the News world: "If it bleeds, it leads", the Law lacks that excitement, but it is the Law.
54. THE MAN IS A HOLOCAUST DENIER!
david ,   uk   (08.28.11)
55. The Oslo Accord... What accord?
Chris ,   Canada, Ottawa   (08.28.11)
The Oslo Accord was so badly worded that it can be interpreted 10,000 ways. Israel is not honoring the Oslo Accord they way Palestine and the UN interprets it. The way Israel has been acting and the way Israel twisted the Accord; Oslo was nothing more than a trap for Palestine. That Accord should be void and reworked from the ground up.
56. #49 - and Hamas' Rantisi was an MD
William ,   Israel   (08.29.11)
so was Zarawhi. Both of them took the Hippocratic Oath and spent the rest of their lives murdering civilians, especially children. A title does not give you credibility. Your actions do. To get a PhD, one only needs to do the work. It says nothing about character. By the way, don't you know Abbas' thesis was on Holocaust Denial?
57. #55 - it was Arafat and the Arab League who worded Oslo
William ,   Israel   (08.29.11)
and it was plainly a trap for Israel, which Arafat admitted to a group of Muslims in South Africa (and was caught in a video tape). The trap for Israel set many conditions for Israel while absolving the "Palestinians" of many obligations. Even after the "palestinians" broke their obligations, they and the world still pushed Israel to adhere to these defunct accords. They do the same on UN resolutions which Arabs rejected out-right and publicly, but still want Israel to adhere to. One trap Arafat put into the Accords, which the Israeli Left accepted because of their impractical ideology, was that the Accord ONLY covered the "Palestinian" govt, i.e. The PA/PLO, and no terrorist groups like IJ, Hamas, PRC, etc. However, the Accords stated that any attack on a "Palestinian" was grounds for breaking the accord, regardless of who they were. Hence, it allowed Arafat to keep Israeli retaliation at bay while he used terrorist groups to attack and kill Israeli civilians, which he funded (according to papers found in the Mukata in 2002), in an effort to gain the upper-hand during negotiations for final peace. Abbas is doing it more sloppy but keeping with the same policy as Arafat. Abbas doesn't try to hide it like Arafat did because he believes the world will support him no matter what.
58. Another news!!! Water is wet....
Iranian Jew ,   LA   (08.29.11)
Like we didn't know this before. What peace process are we talimg about. This idiot is just another terrorist with a suit on. He just made his September nihtmare more difficult. He himself even does not beleiveve in his heart that he deserves a state.
