1. and when they are under the control of the muslim brotherhoo
zionist forever   (08.29.11)
Since Mubarak was toppled the Egyptian army has had no interest in securing the border so why anything should change because we have allowed another 1500 troops into Sinai? Let these troops in and we will be releasing the genie from the bottle because we will never be able to get rid of them. The new Egyptian government will probably use it as an excuse to try and renegotiate the treaty so many thousands more Egyptian troops will be allowed to be based in Sinai full time with or without Israel's agreement. There is also the little fact that within a matter of months these troops will be under the command of the Muslim Brotherhood What we need to do is build big fences and patrol them by the IDF on the Israel side of the border relying on the Egyptians is irresponsible and it will not keep out the terrorists and illegals.
2. Amendment? Will it have an expiration date and would require
leo ,   usa   (08.29.11)
an extension or are you being taken for a ride again?
3. #1 area C on Egypt side, area D on Israel's side
observer ,   Egypt   (08.29.11)
why Egypt allowed Israel to increase army troops in area D, while Egypt is only allowed to increase Policemen in area C? because Israel is fooling Egypt. The UN observers' reports regarding the limited Israel's military presence in area D are always dampened by the US cutting aid to Egypt. There is limit for Egypt to bear in exchange of US aid.
4. Egyptian troops in Sinai
Mark ,   USA   (08.29.11)
Idiotic..bad move..the Israeli leadership is bankrupt of imagination, resolve. and a viable strategy. Netanyahu is bent on appeasement and more terror will follow.
5. Troops into Sinia
ray stuart ,   zurich   (08.29.11)
Give it a chance before you condem it , If it works then it is great for Israel
6. As long as we're modifying the treaty's security terms ...
Raymond in DC ,   Washington, DC USA   (08.29.11)
... it should be modified to allow both Israeli aerial surveillance and its right of "hot pursuit". Those who sneak across Israel's borders to commit mayhem shouldn't be able to find safety by scurrying back across the border.
7. Why are we allowing this lie to stand
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (08.29.11)
The cabinet DID NOT agree. This is a lie and Egypt has violated the Peace Accords. Petition the US government to end all aid to Egypt now.
8. It's a trick
Ian ,   Newcastle upon Tyne   (08.29.11)
I don't believe for a moment that the Egyptian government wants to increase armed troop deployment in Sinai to combat terrorist infiltration. Quite the opposite, they want to threaten Israel's security. The question that I think should be answered before an amendment is made is this:How does it come about that the Egyptian forces ALREADY in Sinai are so successful at shooting dead unarmed African economic emigrants trying to cross from Egypt to Israel, yet cannot detect and stop terrorists trying to do the same? Looks fishy to me. THREE CHEERS FOR ISRAEL!!!
9. How soon will the IDF be fighting these troops?
Claudia USA ,   Tampa FL   (08.30.11)
Barak needs to be fired. He is incompetent and makes everyone else look bad as well.
10. The cracks and fualts of the Treaty
Iranian Jew ,   LA   (08.30.11)
is showing up now. We must work with Egyptian even though it's hard to trust them. We can't be policing the area for Egyptians and they can't do it alone w/o our help and US money anyway. No wonder they don't want Gaza. They can't control it.
11. #3 - probably because Egypt still can't be trusted
William ,   Israel   (08.30.11)
Egypt launched every way involving Israel, is routinely implicated in aiding Gazan terrorists, and systematically vilify Israel in schools, newspapers, and on TV shows. Quite frankly, the only thing that has changed in your miserable existence over 90 years has been your inability to use the Sinai as a launching pad for war. But your hate and irrationality are ever present.
12. I see a wider plot going on here
William ,   Israel   (08.30.11)
Call me a conspiracy nut, but I see a larger plot by Egypt against Israel. 1) Egypt creates a need in the Sinai for more military by supporting terrorist and Bedouin elements there. A few terror attacks, especially against Israel, and they can argue for an amendment to the Peace accord. 2) Israel bends and Egypt sends troops into the Sinai. The same attacks occur again and Egypt will ask for more troops, with heavier arms. 3) The Egyptian govt gets tired of the peace accord and ends it. Voices in Israel call for retaking the Sinai, but that option is suddenly off the table with several thousands of troops in the Sinai, with the backing of Gazan terrorists and a couple large Bedouin clans. 4) Egypt once again threatens Israel,.
13. #5 - the key words here is "IF"
William ,   Israel   (08.30.11)
Someone also said "if it works, its great for Israel" about the Oslo Accords and since then, thousands have died on both sides.
14. #11 it isn't about Sinai, but added Israeli troops in Area D
observer ,   Egypt   (08.30.11)
Treaty is treaty. Trust excuse is used only by the Israeli to breach the treaty.
