1. You are overthinking this
Danny   (08.30.11)
The Arab and Muslim states and the left-wing governments are simply pandering to the basest instincts of their constituency.
2. lets start by them freeing Gilad!!!

4. Israeli "isolation" won't last long
Brian Cohen ,   Judean Peoples Front   (08.30.11)
Every year or so, the pundits sharpen their pencils and declare "Israel is heading towards isolation" and/or "Israel is being shunned" and/or "Israel is painting itself into a corner". You get the picture. They've been saying that not for a few years, but for the past 60 years. The major countries of the world happen to know that the UN is a sham. They are nice and diplomatic up front, but ignore it when they have to. The cognizant world knows that the UN is ruled by a mob, and that the PA is part of the mob mentality. Israel's strong trade and other ties will continue. Tourism will continue to go up. The Palestinians will not be isolated either, and they will continue to wallow in mediocrity. The Pals are like the Boers - a product of trying to be something that never was. There never was a Palestine nation, just like there never was a Boer nation until they moved to South Africa from Europe and declared that it was theirs.

Philos ,   Herzliya   (08.30.11)
Haha. The Palestinians are like Boers... very funny. Same could be said about a nation of disparate ethnicities brought together in a foreign land solely based on their religious affiliation Furthermore, the description of the PA seemed awfully familiar to a description of the Israeli government.... Who's been charged or imprisoned for setting mosque's on fire? Right nobody....
6. Of course we could be smart
Miche Norman ,   Hod Hasharon Israel   (08.30.11)
We could always be smart and expose the Palestinians for all time. They are trying to sell the world that we are occupying them in the West Bank and Gaza, which they want recognized as an independent Palestinian state. What they really want is that as a first stage. The solution - Persuade our friends to add a small sentence to the motion - And neither side will have territorial claims or claims of right to residence in the territory of the other side. How many minutes till the Palestinians would withdraw their motion and be exposed to the world
7. Right of return?
AL ,   Tel Aviv   (08.30.11)
So once the 'state' is officially recognized, how long before Lebanon, Syria and Jordan start kicking out their Palestinians, now they have a home to go to?

Everyone know the mosque fires we set by Arabs. The "Palestinians" admit they are like Boers. Their definition of themselves is "any non-Jew who lived in Israel prior to 1948" which means Muslims from Syria who moved in 1947. As for your insulting condescension regarding the Jewish people, I recommend you look up why Dr. Martin Luther King Jr would call you an antisemite.
9. Forgot to mention
Eyal ,   USA Israel   (08.30.11)
why haven't Israel gave the Palestinians an ultimatum? I think the International community and the Palestinians need to know the details of the ultimatum. It should state that by going to the UN for recognition means abandonment of the Oslo peace accord and any previous agreements thereafter with the Palestinians. By saying this, the world will understand that by voting for Palestine, they are actually voting to scrap any chance for peace and a total annexation of the West Bank, Gaza and East Jerusalem (which already belong to the Jews).
10. Israel's isolation -#4
Yankelev, PhD, Msc' ,   Palm Beach USA   (08.30.11)
Right on, Brian Cohen - totally brilliant, incisive article - an exception to the "run of the mill" Ynet sentiments. Shalom al Israel, Yours, Yosef Y
11. UN vote on Palestine
Jack ,   LA, USA   (08.30.11)
Exactly my thoughts. Israel should immediately cancel Oslo disaster, shut all electricity, water, etc. Let them be independent.
12. Excellent article. Well done, Mr. Yesawich
Alterman ,   Tel Aviv, Israel   (08.30.11)
13. You can All Talk
Ken ,   Australia   (08.30.11)
But the bottom line is , a failed bid and for good reason, There will not be a palestine state in september. I am quite sure of it, if the UN people are serious about the middle east they will not entertain this concept, all though it seems like they will, if they think this will resolve all of the above , they all know it is in-correct, therefore at the vote there will not be a new state.
14. What are its borders? Who is its government?
Serge ,   Montreal, Canada   (08.30.11)
"Palestine" makes no sense as a country at the current time. It does not comply with any of the criteria that are required for territorial sovereignty under international law.
15. Only BIG ISRAEL can bring balance and freedom to ME.
Jerry ,   The Netherlands   (08.30.11)
16. Stop the delusion of negotiation. Prepare
DT ,   TA Israel   (08.30.11)
for war and this time finish the job. That will end the "Palestinian " cause" and dispapoint that the world that Israel is till around after the dust settles
17. awi yesavitc- "the day after palestine".
sjoerd ruurd van der ,   mankindnation/land   (08.31.11)
nobody can predict the future (the 20th. and the 21th. of september 2011 etc.). even not the author of this article in " ynetnews.com"
18. The joke will be on fictional Palestine.
Chaim ,   Israel   (08.31.11)
Palestine already has one statehood disaster behind it; in 1988. Conditions for Palestine statehood were far more favorable in 1988 than today. Yet their 1988 declaration was still a complete farce. It would take very little effort on Israel's part to assure their upcoming declaration is an even bigger disaster. The joke will be on fictional Palestine. After it's second, and final, statehood declaration blows sky high, nobody will ever take it seriously again. The emergence of Israel as an energy powerhouse will make Palestine delusions fade in record time.
19. come what may! BRING IT ON!
mary of Bethany ,   singapore   (08.31.11)
Israel, then take this chance, to once for all, denounce / reject refugees return, E Jerusalem giving up.... make good use of the chance. UN want to accept, then congratulation to UN, they are going to continue to feed this never grow up baby forever financially.
20. The Israeli reaction?
Shalom Freedman ,   Jerusalem Israel   (08.31.11)
This article was of value in pointing out some of the negative elements in the Palestinian Arab effort to receive admission as full member of the United Nations. It does not however point out that this move is one element in an ultimate stategy whose aim is the delegitimization and ultimately destruction of Israel. It also would have been more interesting had it considered possible Israeli responses to the Palestinian move.
21. To: Chaim at No. 18
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (08.31.11)
When has anyone ever taken the ersatz "Palestinians" seriously? They are terrorists and thugs, and everyone knows it. Please name one contribution that any of them has every made to civilization. Good luck with that one!
22. To: Shalom at No. 20
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (09.01.11)
It would serve as instant abrogation of the Oslo Accords and will, in all likelihood, result in the annexation of Judea and Samaria and the repatriation of the Arab squatters currently there to Jordan, country of their citizenship. That said -- this is all a tempest in a teapot. The General Assembly does NOT have enforcement powers; only the Security Council does. So the ersatz "Palestinians" can have a great deal of fun planning their imaginary country on land which does not belong to them and which will no longer be non-sovereign. One thing that can absolutely be said about the ersatz "Palestinians" is that they have managed to be their very own worst enemy for seven decades. It would appear that nothing has changed.
23. to nr. 22.
sjoerd ruurd van der ,   mankindnation/land   (09.02.11)
it also can be said that the revisionistic zionist movement, ultra-orthodox, fundamentalistic judaism etc. is it''s own worst enemy and is also partially to blame for the conflict/crisis already since the 19th. century in the middle east/in the western-asian world-region. let us tell the complete, total story/history what has happened until now.
