Despite the fact that I mostly agree with you that a conflict is coming between Isreal and Iran, and Isreal with more advanced weapons and recon (via teh well trained Mossad and US eyes in the sky) would run over most of Iran's forces in a matter of weeks. There are two problems with your statement. 1) Iran will launch a massive rocket attack at Isreal and US interests in the region. US and Isreali missile defense as advanced as it stands can't stop that many rockets. Your assumption that a naval battle and not a first strike suggests that the launchers (mobile ones) will be moved and hidden. MASSIVE loss of assets and life on both sides. The resulting Isreal counter strike and US cruise missile strikes would make things a little cloudy in the region (figuratively). What do you think the Russians will do? Not that they'd roll on the Middle East with tanks, but, there is an interest concern there. 2) Not that Isreal needs US permission, but, you don't want to upset the guys giving you that advantage of the eye in the sky. US politics right now are as divided as I have ever seen, heard, or read about. You're rolling the dice as to whether or not you'll get precious troop movement intel. Just my two cents.... It's better to let them implode than make the cornered cat strike.... sure, we'd kill it, together, but at what cost?

If there truly was a terror threat, war ships would not be dispatched. Since when have you seen terrorists with a navy? Terrorists are discrete and do things in shadows. If anything the warships multiply the egyptian peoples sentiment towards terrorist groups. If Israel genuinely wants to stop a terror plot, they will heighten up patrols, search more rigorusly (although thats impossible it seems, have any of you crossed the border from egypt to israel, or even into the gaza strip? it is insane) and bolster security. this is merely a move to scare the newly forming egyptian government. We already armed and trained the IDF what more could you want? Given Israels numerous abuses against people within its own borders I don't think that there is any good cause for us to continue throwing our lot in with theirs.
