1. If the unilateral recognition bid at the UN
seadog1946 ,   Arthur Kill, NJ   (08.31.11)
jeapordizes or annuls any security/economic arrangements between the PA and the US, so be it. Don't worry, Mr. Oren, the security arrangements with and military welfare payments from the US will remain intact. Besides, no one ever really believed that the US was an impartial broker in the diplomatic kabuki play called "peace" negotiations between Israel and the PA.
2. a palestinian state declared in the middle of israel must
bernard ross ,   st anns bay jamaica   (08.31.11)
war. Israel must exert rights to claim on west bank or forfeit any claims at all
3. Anti-Statehood intimidation
DevilAnse ,   Lexington Kentucky   (08.31.11)
The Palestinians won't destroy Israel....Israel will destroy Israel.
4. A move by the PLO/PA at the UN will bring with it::
Jehudah Ben-Israel ,   Qatzrin, Israel   (08.31.11)
1) Application of Israeli law , i.e. annexation, of Area C and much of Area B. 2) The total closure of borders between Israel and Gaza, thus preventing all movement of people and goods, all...!! 3) All funds presently transferred to the PA, and all economic assistance to it will cease, thus money from the US, EU, Israel and beyond will no longer be made available to the PA with which to sustain itself. 4) The beginning of construction of a new Hebrew city in the Jordan Valley, between Beit-Shan and Jericho intending to serve the agricultural communities in the region and settle it further. All of the above moves, incidentally, are within the UN resolution that has been governing all peace talks to date, UN Security Council Resolution, 242.
5. puh
Anja ,   Berlin   (08.31.11)
"The Palestinians risk all that has been achieved if they go forward with this " so there is nothing to loose
6. ABSOLUTELY CORRECT
Mark from Georgia ,   USA   (08.31.11)
It really is true, as I've said all along. One of the criteria to even be considered for a new entity would be honoring ALL past agreements. This unilateral bid for a state, violates past agreements, period. Also any state that votes for approval actually violates the UN rules and International Law. This is pretty basic stuff, with numerous precedents of other states who have made bids at the UN, and have been denied. But regardless of that, the Pals love to self destruct, It seems they very successful, at being unsuccessful.
7. Palestinians do not want a peace treaty
Brian Cohen ,   Judean Peoples Front   (08.31.11)
Face the reality, folks. The Pals are doing this because they both do not want a peace treaty and couldn't sign one if they wanted to. A) No Palestinian leader will sign a treaty that does not include the repatriation of millions of offspring of Arabs. They'd be dead meat if they agreed to anything less. B) Hello! Anybody home? Abbas may rule in Ramallah, but Hamas rules in Gaza. Abbas cannot and will not sign a west-bank-only deal. Hamas will never agree to a peace treaty anyway, so it's a moot point to begin with. So of course they're going to the UN. They're incapable of making any deal with Israel. And going to the UN keeps alive all their false promises: that Israel will be replaced by a Pal state, that all the refugees will go "home" to Tel Aviv and Haifa.
8. We have our hopes set high for September.
Salma ,   Palestine   (08.31.11)
"Israel" & US will stand alone together as the world recognizes our rights. Unfortunately, they always prefer to be in the opposite side of History .
9. Manipulative
Tafline Laylin ,   Cairo, Egypt   (08.31.11)
Wouldn't it be a little more appropriate to say: "there is no government of Palestine, but if you pull one together, we'll take this to the table and hash out an agreement that suits everyone." That's diplomacy, in very informal language.
10. A United Call: Both Muslim-Arabs and Jews should come to...
Jehudah Ben-Israel ,   Qatzrin, Israel   (08.31.11)
...the table at which they will reiterate their commitment to UN Security Council Resolution, 242, and on the basis of which and only on the basis of which set out to reach an accommodation of peaceful coexistence between Arab and Jew, between the Muslim-Arab world, local and regional, and the nation-state of the Jewish people, Israel. At the end of the end of the process, and part of a peace treaty, the two will express their mutual accepting of each other, that is Palestine is the nation-state of the Palestinian Arab people and Israel, the nation-state of the Jewish people. And, the peace treaty, the sides will agree, constitutes the end of the conflict and the end of all future demands. The Jewish people, within and without its nation-state of Israel, no doubt, will stand behind this call. Will the Muslim-Arabs...?? Let us hope so...!!
11. What will it change on the ground?
Matt1234 ,   USA   (08.31.11)
I hope the Palestinians don't think they will wake up and Israel will be gone. Won't happen or Israel will open it's borders with Hamas. more likely all power, water and borders stopped for a country now Palestine is at war with Israel both the PA and Hamas charter have made that plain. I think Israel should go for it and allow the change then they will owe Gaza nothing shut down all water and power.
12. The Point of the Agreements
Mark ben Josuf ,   USA   (08.31.11)
The point of the Agreements was to precede a State of Palestine within a reasonable time frame. If it is not to happen, reversion to the status quo ante is expected. The PLO/PA stop functioning and the territory reverts to the pre-Oslo status where Israel runs everything and pays for everything. The US will break contact with the PLO/PA and stop funding it. No big deal. Israel will regain those expenses that used to be funded by the US or the functions will not be done. Again, no big deal except for former PA taxpayers who no longer have a basis for taxes to be collected - a boon to them. The US will save a lot of money and can save further by closing the consulate in East Jerusalem.
13. @8
Barry ,   Israel   (08.31.11)
sounds like its not only your hopes that are "high"....
14. #8
solomon ,   bklyn   (08.31.11)
You have to first read history in order to be on one side or the other. Something you refuse to do...and for [your own] good reason.
15. #8;Salma, I'LL TAKE THE BET
Mark from Georgia ,   USA   (08.31.11)
Do you wanna take bets on that? I'll take that for whatever amount of money you want. Whether you want to bet $1,000.00 or $50,000.00, I'll bet that it will NOT be just the USA and Israel, as you claim? We will both make a deposit in a neutral bank with instruction that the bank pays the winner, all cash, in that account. You (Salma) are saying it will be just the USA and Israel "standing alone" on the "opposite side of history". I think you meant to say "wrong side", but that's OK. I'm saying it will be more than just the USA and Israel, OK? Just let me know what bank and I'll call and talk with them. READY TO MAKE A BET???????
16. All former understandings nullified.
Nora Tel Aviv   (08.31.11)
Palestinians can not have the cake and eat too. Israel will have a new neighbor instead of the PA. Officially it means back to the first square. Blood will be spilled again.
17. #8 and #15
Maurice ,   Montreal   (08.31.11)
Mark is right. Canada for example is for sure to vote against the declaration! This is a already a fact.
18. UN recognition of Palestine.
Susie ,   London UK   (08.31.11)
124 countries (of 193) have indicated their support for recognition of Palestine nationhood by the United Nations. The question of whether to follow Spain’s initiative and vote in favour of the proposal is soon to be discussed at a meeting of EU foreign ministers. Whilst some EU governments are still wavering in their commitment to afford to the dispossessed Palestinians exactly the same right that Israel claimed over Palestinian land when its citizens appealed to the United Nations in 1947 - the right to self determination and statehood in a country of their own, hundreds of thousands of Europeans are urging their governments to ignore Israeli government fear-mongering and vote in favour. Support for their human rights is an obligation owed to the Palestinians by all Europeans whether Jewish, Muslim or Christian.
19. Israel's reliance on US for peace has failed !
Marcel ,   Florida   (08.31.11)
The Road Map has hit a dead end. That was always where it led. No peace for Israel without G-d. Your American idol has proven a dud
20. Expel all arabs from Israel! "jordan" is the so-called "pal"
John ,   Texas   (08.31.11)
21. Commendable loyalty, but wrong conclusion
Ussishkin ,   Tel Aviv Israel   (08.31.11)
Mt Oren is a loyal servant. But Ron Prosor our UN ambassador has told us and our Prime Minister and Foreign Minister that their policies on this have failed. This paper yesterday ran Ilan Baruch's piece "Israel headed for disaster": http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340,L-4115791,00.html and urged an Israeli diplomatic initiative to halt this. Former Foreign Ministry head Alon Liel has described various ways for Israel to profit from this situation instead of turning it into a disaster. But no. The ostriches are intent on having their way. Having ignored all the warning signs. they're now queuing up to say we told you so and heap their usual verbal biyuv on everyone else. So keep digging guys, keep burying your heads deeper in the sand, revealing to everyone your real thinking parts.
22. UN
Sam M ,   UK   (08.31.11)
Of course no palestinian leader will sign a peace treaty that recognises Israel as a Jewish state neither will they drop their demand for millions of so called 'refugees' to flood into Israel or their proposed racist state without Jews in Judea and Samaria. The plan always was and remains to destroy israel. This is exactly why they have chosen the UN route because it circumvents any need for 'negotiations' and therefore any need for compromise. That has never been on their agenda. If the palestinians wont honour past agreements then Israel should annex all land without a major palestinian population centre. After gaza no one in their right minds would give them a second chance. The only realistic option for a palestinian homeland is now jordan.
23. Oslo was DEAD WRONG...!!!
Chris Rettenmoser ,   Bayerisch Gmain Germ   (08.31.11)
24. high hopes, Salma?
sammy ,   canterbury - UK   (08.31.11)
we had high hopes you'd accept the 1948 partition... 2 states. we had high hopes you'd accept the 49' armistice line for 2 states... we had high hopes pre-67' that you'd form a state in gaza, west bank and east jerusalem... no. you wanted it all... this not about occupation or settlements. from setback to setback, you keep on wanting it all. you'll end up with nowt! absolutely nothing. great shame...
25. #1;seadog, PROOF POSITIVE
Mark from Georgia ,   USA   (08.31.11)
Your right! For instance I don't believe the Pals will honor any agreement, do you? If fact the Pals going to the UN violates past agreements, conclusive proof, they will not honor agreements, wouldn't you say? BTW, stop whining about aid to Israel already, nobody but the antisemitic, really cares! In tough economic times (and even with prosperous times) there is always somebody trying to anger the public, to seek converts to their fake cause If you do the math, it's pretty simple (try to follow this), the USA gives let's say, $5 Billion dollars/year to Israel. There is 300 Million people (actually 330 million, but we will stay simple) in the USA. That comes to roughly $16.00 dollars per person / year. $64.00 per (family of 4)/year. Divided by 52 weeks in a year. That comes to $1.24 cents / week, or .18 cents per day for a (family of 4). So even if it's double what I say ($10 Billion dollars) to Israel. That only $.36 cents (For a family of 4) / day. So the question is: will 18 cents /day (the $5 billion number) change any lifestyles in a family of 4? I think not!! Which is why you have a fake point, get it?

Do you actually live in the middle of Arthur Kill?. Are you some kind of aquatic creature?. That might explain the sliminess.
27. To: No. 8
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (09.01.11)
And, come September's stupidity, YOU are going to be on the opposite side of Israel's border with Jordan. Or Gaza. You choose, chica. You choose. One or another way -- you are going. We've had as much of your lot as we can stand. By the way -- you've never really clarified for us. You have variously claimed to be from Jerusalem, from Akko and from Jaffa. So, chica, which is it? Yeah. That's pretty much what I thought.
28. To: Barry at No. 13
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (09.01.11)
TOOOOO funny for words! (Wish I'd thought of it first!)

30. To All Commentators
Harold ,   USA   (09.01.11)
The whole world is tiered hearing or reading this type of stories for 63 years. Story after story and no light at the end of the tunnel. So the Palestinian are reporting their situation to the world and I am sure they will be recognized no matter what Israel and US try to do.
