1. Restitution of looted art from Hungary.
M. J. Albert ,   Holon, Israel   (09.05.11)
It is good news that a court in the United States is willing to treat claims for the restoration of looted objects of art to the heirs of their owners. The owners were the wealthiest Jewish famiy in Hungary, the baron Hertzog and de Csepel. Restitution for homes and property, plundered and looted during the periods of Nazi power, and later taken into state property by the Communist regime in Hungary, is far from being closed. After the fall of the Communist regime, "partial" restitution was legislated during the 1990's, providing a ridiculously low compensation for real estate property (very far below its market value). No restitution was made for the contents of plundered homes and looted shops. Redress of this unfair legislation can only be made through appeal to foreign courts and to the EU Court of Human rights.
