1. Every now and then, I wonder how Golda
Devorah   (09.04.11)
would handle the situation vis-a-vis "palestine" if she was PM today.
2. I answer U with an old saying Why Golda didn't wear skirts?
theusualme ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (09.04.11)
Cause her "balls" may stick out... She is the kind of leader that we desperately need :) Blessed be her memory
3. And every now and then
Mike ,   Seattle, WA, USA   (09.04.11)
I wonder how Golda would handle the situation vis-a-vis the growth of privatization and personal greed if she was PM today
4. bombs away
fk   (09.04.11)
a pox on John McCloy and all his descendents. Because of him and those like him I was deprived of grandparents and other family members and have to go through life as a 2nd generation to survivors who lived with nightmares most of their adult lives. very bad karma for the McCloys
5. "Israel's most renowned Prime Minister"
Sagi   (09.04.11)
This she was not. She was nothing but a cantakerous old lady who was put in the position of PM as a compromise and she had no right whatsoever to be there. She was not the people's choice. She failed in running the country and she definately failed in the run up to 6th October 1973. She was forced out of office by public demand. This cannot be termed, even remotely, as being "renowned".

Most probably with bombs...the national language of the new Israel.
7. to No.6
Ros ,   מודיעין   (09.04.11)
You right! i think its about time we would grant freedom to gaza and withdraw from their terretories, Oh ops! we did that in 2005, that worked splendidly!

When people [ie the arabs] speak to you in their language, you must learn how to answer in that same language.
9. #5....
Abir ,   Chicago, IL   (09.04.11)
You are absolutely correct. Most folk tend to overlook the 1973 debacle, over which she had a direct impact. She also split the country socially, singling out more privileged vs less privileged. All in all, one of the worst PMs we have ever had. For all those folk that believe she was the best thing since "sliced bread" I suggest you read the Agranat report after the Yom Kippur war.
10. weizman and shertok
sweeter than honey ,   far away   (09.04.11)
met with anthony eden (1944), weizman who had access to churchill peronally asked about this as well, churchill recommended bombing after discussions with eden but did not order it. some say because of anti-semitism in higher orders of RAF, but the truth is often hidden by those with hidden agendas. the synthetic rubber factory attached to the death camp was bombed. the aerial pictures of auchwitz 2 death camp come from a s.african reconnaisance overflight. some say one american bomber deliberately bombed auchwitz 2 (the death camp) when on a mission to auchwitz 1 (the rubber factory), the only times bombs ever fell on the death camp. perhaps it was just "bad" navigating, i don't know. the target and rail lines were undefended against air attack (see recon. photos). the only thing this snippet reveals is that mrs. meier did not have access to the highest echelons of u.s. goverment in the same way that weizman had with british. all this might reveal is a) western governments attitudes to jews 70 odd years ago, and b) the relative powerlessness of minorities then. have things changed for the better? i don't know.
11. Roosvelt n Eisenhower wouldn't have helped Israel in 73 war
Dan Kelso   (09.04.11)
If Roosevelt or Eisenhower were President in 1973 and not Nixon, neither of them would have sent Israel the weapons they needed to defeat the Arabs who were supplied and backed by the Soviets. We all know John J Mccloy would have opposed sending weapons to Israel in the 73 war.
12. signing a letter is like lifting a finger - not much.

13. to #5 that not her fault that is Moshe Dayan's
ghostq   (09.05.11)
fault, any way she thought of saving jews outside of Israel and that is much more than what the other Israeli politicians could come up with.
14. it's pointless to bomb Auschwitz
Mr. Peabody ,   US   (09.05.11)
. The bombing of Auschwitz would have killed the Jewish inmates already incarcerated there. Polish underground freedom fighterscould have easily sabotaged the rail lines to Auschwitz, but either nobody instructed them to do it or they didn't want do it
15. The Wyman Institute
Phil ,   USA   (09.05.11)
Thank goodness for the Wyman Institute as they have exposed the sickening reality of so many heartless govt. officials including Roosevelt. The State dept. was a viper's nest of antisemitism and Jew-haters such as the infamous Breckenridge Long actually assisted the murder of innocents by denying legitimate visas to Jews trying to escape. He should have been arrested and tried for crimes against humanity. Likewise, the whole military establishment"s refusal to destroy the gas chambers was a shameful stain on America's heroic war effort. Antisemitism in the 1940's was widespread in America but the cowardice and indifference of Roosevelt's Jews (except for Morganthau), the Jewish-owned NY Times, and certain prominent rabbis was a disgrace that only a brave and ethical Person like David Wyman would dare to expose.
16. #14 Mr. Peabody - not pointless
solomon ,   bklyn   (09.05.11)
Note it is the Jews who requested that Auschwitz be bombed. There was a realization that anyone in Auschwitz at that time would be killed anyway; bombing would at least halt for a time, or slow down, the extermination. They were well aware many of their own would be killed in the bombing.
17. Auschwitz
J.K. ,   Brooklyn USA   (09.05.11)
There was a tacit understanding between the ellies and Germany,The Germans will do the killing, and the allies will block every door for the European Jews to save themselves from the Germans.
