1. Great opportunity for Toronto Arabs and Palestians to dialog
Israeli ,   Tel Aviv, Israel   (09.06.11)
Toronto Arabs and Palestinians should go talk to local Jews about social justice, Israel and Palestine with an open heart and mind.
2. and how are they affected by housing prices in israel??
david ,   new york   (09.06.11)
what standing does someone in toronto have in protesting economics in israel? these protests have nothing to do about economics. it has everything to do about pushing socialism. the left was all about oslo and the "peace process" until now, but that has been shown to be a catastrophe. now they are trying to remake themselves as a "social justice" movement. of course, none of them are actually poor so it is a little disengenuous. not too many "tent protesters" actually are homeless.
3. Comment #1 makes no sense
Aaron ,   Kochav Hashachar   (09.06.11)
What does social unrest in Israel have to do with meetings between Jews and Arabs? Comment #1, you make no sense. Also, "Palestine" is not a country, in case you have been brainwashed to think so. Additionally, why are Torontonians joining this protest? Instead of complaining, why don't you do something useful like making Aliyah and working in Israel and paying taxes and helping other people. not a bad idea, eh?
4. Residents of Baycrest
Former Torontonian ,   Israel   (09.07.11)
I'd really like to know what kind of meds Alisa Poskanzer of Baycrest is receiving. This protest is NOT the most important thing that's happened in Israel over the last 20 years, and really, I'm tired of Jews from outside of Israel telling us what's important and what's not. We don't tell you what to do in Toronto, do we?
5. Useless and Stupid gathering
SImon ,   Montreal, Canada   (09.06.11)
Hello fellow Torontonians. Why doesn't your group organize a SOLIDARITY PARADE FOR ISRAEL that will show the world Canadians are for Israel? Instead you are wasting your time protesting against a government and "social justice" that does not affect you in any way since you reside in Toronto. Moreover, you are showing separation and a lack of unity. I think Israel has enough enemies as it is and doesn't need us, it's own people, protest against it.
6. #1 - The purpose is for Jews to be supporting Israelis!
jenny ,   Israel/Canada   (09.07.11)
There is nothing to do with Arabs and Palestinians....they have millions upon millions of people to take care of themselves....not enough Jews take of each other.
7. Morons
Daromi ,   Tel Aviv   (09.07.11)
Why no solidarity when there is a terror attack, or a family is slaughtered in The Shomron, or there are missiles raining down on Sderot, Ashkelon, Kiryat Gat? Meaningless leftist BS. They are of no real use to Israel.
8. That's nice, but send beer instead!
Brian Cohen ,   Judean Peoples Front   (09.06.11)
Like, here in Israel we're outta both Molsons and Labatts, eh? Now THAT is a serious social problem!!! But while we do indeed have some social and economic problems here, please tell the Shmutz kids (Shomer Hatzair) that the revolution failed and capitalism is here to stay. They should concentrate on making capitalism work and their best contribution would be to make aliya and get involved here. And bring a two-four of X, eh?
9. 1 not likely
alsky ,   toronto   (09.07.11)
they dont have open minds.
10. These Toronto Jews are idiots!
Maurice ,   Montreal   (09.07.11)
Nothing else to add.
11. Resp. to #1 : Wolf sheathing into sheepskin
Avram Goldsmith ,   Toronto, Canada   (09.07.11)
You look like an Hamasnik deguised to a Peace Now activist. What they have in common? Both are floating on the water.
12. Idon't know what you expect from Hashomer
m   (09.07.11)
Communists in disguise, bash Israel to destroy Netanyahu's government which they think it's not left enough. By the way do you think they protested when the 3 Fogel children were murdered with their parents?
13. #s 4,5,7, and 10, you guys are dummies.
Rich ,   Toronto, Canada   (09.07.11)
The Jews here are showing their solidarity with Israelis protesting for social justice in Israel. High rents and low pay in Israel is why so many Israelis are here. We need a change for the better, and not more false-flag terrorist attacks.
14. Oneness: social-economic 3rd way AND secure Big Israel.
Jerry ,   The Netherlands   (09.07.11)
15. Zionists
A Ronald ,   Toronto   (09.08.11)
Hashomer Toronto is a Zionist organization through and through. They are showing that they truely care about the Jewish state and that they want it to move forward into the future as a strong and united nation with equity, peace, and justice for all. Kol Ha'kavod.
16. #13
Former Torontonian ,   Israel   (09.08.11)
Yes, we need change for the better. We being Israelies, not Canadians. And it will happen, slowly like everything else here, but it will happen. As for protesting in Toronto, do you live here? Do you know what it's like to live here and raise a family here, not just visit for 2 weeks every couple of years? You want to show your solidarity for Israel, stop these useless protests on Canadian soil, find a good organization that uses 100% of the funds donated to help ALL Israelies in economic need and feed Israeli children (Hesed Naomi is a good one), open your wallets and help. This ridiculous Baycrest protest is a major waste of time.
17. Israelis who couldn't afford to live here moved there
Truthfully ,   Netanya   (09.08.11)
I have met so many Israelis living abroad who had to move, since they couldn't afford to live here. This is why it affects them. If any of you have traveled to USA, for example, loads of Israelis work there and live there. They would love to come back to ha'aretz, but the fact is they cannot afford to feed their families with the prices like they are. Until Israel can become a place where we all can afford to live, there will be more and more Israelis that leave.
18. So it's ok
Gregg ,   Haifa, IL   (09.08.11)
for non Israeli Jews to come and demonstrate, but it's not ok for non Jewish foreigners to come to Israel and demonstrate against the occupation? God, what have you done with Israel?Israel is such a racist country !
19. toronto for 'social justice'
moron ,   galut   (09.09.11)
utopian drivel..fsocial justice for jews means a strong, prosperous and yes devout jewish state..not some infantile pinko utopia--life is hard in israel but these utopians only complain and want free stuff..the left makes rich nations poor including israel..thankfully canada elected a pro-zionist pro-jewish conservative government
20. Supporting the right ok supporting social protests not?
(09.09.11)
So let me get this straight. If we support Bibi and the settler thugs that's ok but a teach in support of a cause 3/4 of Israelis view favorable is disloyal? What part of 450,000 people don't you liebermanistas understand! Ha'am doresh tzedek chevrati!
21. No. 18 Gregg
NYC Girl   (09.09.11)
You really ought to stop using the term "racism" to describe anything that Israel does which doesn't meet with your approval. It's become a mind-numbing mantra for people like you who seemingly are in capable of distinguishing between racism and a difference of opinion. And worse yet, it's an insult to those who were victims of real racism...like blacks in South Africa or Jews in Nazi Germany, and instead it's become a way to unfairly smear Israel with a highly emotionally charged accusation, along with that other chronically overused (and entirely inappropriate term)...apartheid.
22. Double sword & Hypocrisy
Avram Goldsmith ,   Toronto, Canada   (09.09.11)
1. Shomer Hazair movement of Labor Party who created the stratification in economical and social order base on selfish interes. 2. The so called " social reforms" can't be done on short term, general speaking except the defence all the rest of problem in the past have been not proactive solved and just on rescue basis. This problem exists in big portion as bad consumer behaviour and philosophy. 3. Economical Israel is in a good shape and reforms are required in order to readjust and offer equal opprtunity. 4. In the current political environment support need it, live all the empties slogans and focus on Israel support against Arab propaganda. Thank you.
23. #16, Just sending money is not the right solution.
Rich ,   Toronto, Canada   (09.09.11)
The per capita income per person in Israel is $29,800 USD, but many are not making that. What we need in Israel is a fairer distribution of the wealth generated in the country and a reduction in the taxes. When it comes to the distribution of wealth per family, Israel is second to the last in the Western World. Only the US is worse. If the Rothschilds, the Ofers, Steinmetzs, Arisons, Milchans, Wertheimers, Tshuvas, Strauss', Kahns, Federmanns and Dankners were more generous with their own people, and less selfish and greedy, Israel would look like Switzerland or Germany today.
24. Protest
Enoch ,   Toronto   (09.09.11)
I am a Jew (and ex resident of Israel). This is the first I am hearing of a "protest". However, Toronto has a bunch of leftist Jewish radicals, that will do anything to besmirch Israel. Those limousine socialists spend their time trying to find any way to get into the papers and show their hate.
25. Toronto Jews join....
GideonReader ,   USA   (09.10.11)
SOCIALIST pretest. There.Fixed it.
26. Ridiculuos!
Miro ,   Israel,Canada   (09.11.11)
The Jews in Toronto should rather demonstrate against the high cost of living in Canada.I am an ex Toronto Jew and I left because of the outrageous high cost of living in Toronto. Are those people nuts? Property Tax is double than in Israel, food is twice as expensive,if you do not shop at "No Frills"you do not finish the month in Toronto. Wake -up Canada !
27. Social Justice
Zvi ,   Toronto   (09.20.11)
Did you ever lived in Israel One million Israelis know what they are doing. How the North American Jews feel uncortable when we talk about social justice in israel By the way the support israel meeting was on Sundat at Eglinton and bathurst
28. sharing the wealth is not the isue
