It is no surprise that the Poles took to the street to demonstrate against the anti semitic vandalism. In my travels to Poland during the past ten years, I have witnessed younger Poles wanting to understand and reconcile how life was in their country before the War. Their reaction is indeed laudable,

That there are still people that believe that Jews were "flammable" ("byli latwopalni")? Sure, there are some people that will condemn this act of atrocity, but there are some that believe that all Jews should go to hell. It is painful, but not heartwarming.

Sam, a mere 75 years ago, anti semitism was rampant in Poland: from the streets to the universities to government policy. After the war, the Poles continued with Pograms and during Soviet times started various anti semitic campaigns to rid the country of Jews. Anti semitism will, unfortunately, never be eliminated. But this country, both on policy level and with its citizens, is in the beginning process of reconciling its past. That, Sam, is heartwarming.
