America no longer has the "leader of the world status" so it cant do what it thinks it should be able to do. Blaming Israel is not going to change that. Problem is, America has not noticed that yet. They're still looking to blame others instead of looking at themselves.

Gates wants to know what Israel ever did for the US: How about the Israeli technology that helped US soldiers in Iraq against IED's? How about that Israel is the only stable democracy in the middle east. How about all the technology sharing and information sharing that Israel has with the US. How about all the help that Israel offers countries struck by natural disasters like Haiti and Japan. How about when the US has asked Israel to refrain, she has - like in the first gulf war and like when former President Bush ('43) asked Israel not to attack Iran.

American history is littered with cases where our allies who have owed us far more have done far differently than we have wanted. For example, just 10 years after the world war, we were had to threaten Britain with dumping their debt (i.e. cratering their country) to get what we wanted. I'm not arguing that what my country did was right but merely that countries will always do in what they perceive is in their best interests.
