You are embarassing yourself with your stupidity.
2. Peace
Mike ,   Uk   (09.07.11)
Agree totally with this article. The world is sick and tired of the Israeli intransigence and the same old stories, god promised the land and without the land the Jews would be defenceless. The Israeli government is a laughing stock and has lost the sympathy of the world. I pity the ordinary Israeli as I fear a great war awaits them.
3. Right, we have no peace because we did not surrended

6. It's ok
Ordinary Israeli ,   Israel   (09.07.11)
We don't need the worlds sympathy anymore. When we did need it the world sent boat loads of Jewish refugees back to Germany. Just remember this never again
7. This should be published in "Flat Earth Society News"

Betya England will come under Sharia law before Israel makes peace. Palestinians Shmalestians is a fictional narrative written just over 40 years ago to feed Anti Semites like you with a justifiable bellicose. You see Mike the sun is setting over the British Island whilst the Moon people are taking over. I also think you are confused at who is laughing at who. No one is laughing at Israel. Hate Israel? yes Wish it's destuction? probably, but not laughing. The Laughter you hear is the slow motion annihilation of Britain. You guys are seriously finished. As the great Winston Churchill said, "An appeaser is one who feeds a crocodile, hoping it will eat him last".
9. Excellent article!!
Omar ,   Canada   (09.07.11)
Thank you for writing this.
10. golan and death from gaza
alexi   (09.07.11)
hebrew university seems to have affection for olmert, the weakest pm in israel's history who devaluated israeli self image severely. arabs are not interested in peace as they offer no concessions of their own and repeatedly attack israelis. on the other hand, olmert offered so much and yet abbas still turned him down which proves the point. Golan has joined livni and olmert as the village idiots and cowards. Now I know why 6 million died in the holocaust. many were blind like golan.
11. So sick
michaelpielet ,   boca raton, Israel   (09.07.11)
The only one in Israel that does not want peace is this sick women and her friends. Her friends the arabs, will tell her that she is a SETTLER!
12. Most Israelis don't care about "peace."
Lobo ,   USA   (09.07.11)
Once the Gaza fiasco blew up in Israel's face, leading to Gilad Shalit's kidnapping and two wars, Israelis know better. Goes to say that academics aren't necessarily smart.
13. PLO still does NOT recognise Israel or its right to EXIST
CK Tan ,   Singapore, Singapore   (09.07.11)
The PLO Charter - essentially the palis' CONSTITUTION - was OFFICIALLY launched in the 1960s. Its MAIN goal - to ERADICATE Israel - has remained UNCHANGED. Thus, Golan's CLAIM that "the PLO, in 1988, accepted the two-state solution" is at best a FALLACY or at worst, an outright LIE. As for Golan's other claim re the Arab Peace Initiative (API), who knows better what it REALLY means than the ARABS. This is HOW an ex Saudi SENIOR diplomat to the US explained EXPLICITLY in 2006 what the API is really about : - the INTEGRATION of Israel INTO the ARAB geographical entity" so that "(Arabs) will start thinking of Israelis as ARAB JEWS rather than simply as Israelis." (my EMPHASIS) In other words, Jews will LOSE their very OWN identity. What's more, the API is a insidious SCAM by the Arabs to CIRCUMVENT all their obligations under UNSC 242.
14. The Stupid! It Burns!
Kyle ,   Southpark, CO, USA   (09.07.11)
What planet does this moron live on? Here on earth, the Palestinians have repeatedly rejected peace offers. Not Israel. Was this idiot alive in 2000, when Arafat kicked over the table and ran away screaming and launched a terrorist war? The PLO HAS NEVER agreed to this imaginary "1988 two-state solution." How did this retard get to be a college professor?

Perhaps you should be more concerned with your own waning soverignty.
16. Transfer arobs out of all lands west of Jordan river, peace
Moshe ,   Usa   (09.07.11)
will never come from arobs, not for 1000 years. The only hope is for MORE defendable borders. Only when arobs have been beaten down by Israel & other freedom loving democracies will their ever be peace. Moshe
17. Vision
Adam Neira ,   Melb, Australia   (09.07.11)
The lack of vision on display by all the different men in power is quite remarkable at the moment. People are falling back to entrenched positions when they should be meeting on the field. Which movie is going to play out "Joyeux Noël" or "Apocalypse Now" ? What is the long term plan for the Middle East ? Where do the various groups fit in the bigger picture ? What is the way forward ? Is World Peace 2050 a valid mission ? How can all the competing voices be accommodated ? Who are the shareholders ? What is everyone's role ? Can the current $1.6 Trillion GDP of Israel; Judea and Samaria/The West Bank; Gaza; Lebanon; Syria; Jordan; Egypt and Saudi Arabia grow by 5% p.a. from 2012 to 2050 ? Could the Olympic Games be held in Israel/Palestine in 2028 ? I know the answers to these questions. I am happy to be invited to Jerusalem to preside over the various meetings that are required. I know the exact format of the meetings and how they should be conducted. The Options (a) Sleepwalk to disaster. (b) Chaos fills the vacuum of leadership. (c) Stasis leads to collapse. (d) Everyone accepts the status quo and bows down. (e) Dynamic peacemaking.
18. Dear Professor: ...
Jules   (09.07.11)
... from the "palestinian" point of view, all of Israel is ONE BIG SETTLEMENT, subject to demolition. Peace will arrive when the Muslims will cease to be Muslims, because Israel was built on land previously occupied by the Turks, i.e. by an Islamic country. Retreating from land previously occupied by Islam is AGAINST THE KORAN. That's the root of the problem, nothing else.
19. peace
charles zeigler ,   florence,ky. U.S.A.   (09.07.11)
Taking into consideration what took place on the day after Israel announced its statehood,I would take that as a clear cut indication that the Arab nations had no intention or desire for peace with the Jewish people then and NOW.
20. sometimes. okay many times you write something stupid. this
ralph   (09.07.11)
is one of them. naive, stupid, empty, vacuous, what more can i say?
21. Typical university rhetoric without
Robert Haymond ,   Israel/Canada   (09.07.11)
the least comprehension of the Arab mentality. I'd say she was an embarrassment to higher education but then, there are so many out of touch with the simople fact that Arab Muslims never wanted nor would have allowed a Jewish state to co-exist in the Mideast. The professor has blinders on. They will exterminate us after pillaging and torture as they promised in 1948 and as they did in Hebron in 1929. And by the way, Professor, the Yeshuveem (settlements to you) are our line of defence and keep you and your kind secure while getting paid to "profess".
22. How stupid can you be professor????
Rozie   (09.07.11)
Give me a break...Ehud Barak gave Araft 99.9% of what Araft wanted and Araft was still not happy and refused the offer. The Arabs want 200% of any offer which included Israel and you professor will have a choice of becoming a citizen of a PA state or run for your life. Maybe you don't mind being a citizen of the PA state.
23. What will Israel do if it turns out that the right-wing was
al ,   canada   (09.07.11)
If Israel tries to get peace by conceding more land , and if peace does not materialize, what should Israel do then?
24. Thankfully, an overwhelming majority of Israelis disagree
Besalel ,   Great Neck, NY   (09.07.11)
Most Israelis, thankfully, see through your lies. Face the facts: Rabin never agreed to a Palestinian state. Jerusalem can never again be divided. The Arabs of the PLO are not interested in peace with Israel only Israel is pieces.
25. Withdraw From Gaza = Thousands of Rockets
Seth ,   Washington, DC   (09.07.11)
I respect that the Left has a different viewpoint but this is poorly written and the writer leaves out so many obvious challenges to peace irrespective of what Israel does or doesn't do. Professor, if you were my student I would give you a C-.
26. Barak/Clinton peace offer, 2000, rejected; Olmert/Bush peace
Jehudah Ben-Israel ,   Qatzrin, Israel   (09.07.11)
offer, 2008, rejected; Netanjahu's call for direct talks for peace, 2009 to 2011, rejected. And, each of the rejections has been accompanied, as other offers and opportunities in the further past, with intensified violence against the civilian population of the liberal democratic nation-state of the Jewish people, Israel. And, the other side can't even bring itself to make the simple declarative step of accepting Israel's right to be, to exist as the nation-state of the Jewish people; and can't accept a peace treaty, if and when reached, to be the end of the conflict and the end of all future demands. Thus, who is the cause of lack of peace, one must ask....??!!
27. Why are these professors so Left, so Wrong?
Israeli 2   (09.07.11)
They get mush before they receive their PhD.
28. Israel has tried dozens of times.
Vlad   (09.07.11)
In 2000, Ehud Barak offered almost all of the West Bank, all of Gaza, parts of Jerusalem, compensation and highly limited return for refugees, and a passageway between Gaza and the West Bank. Arafat said no. In 2005, Ariel Sharon gave Gaza to the Palestinians without any peace agreement or security guarantees. The Palestinians reciprocated by electing Hamas and lobbing rockets at Israel. In 2006, Olmert planned to unilaterally withdraw from almost all of the West Bank. The Palestinians lobbied against Israel's "unilateral steps". In 2007 and 2008, Olmert and Abbas agreed to a Palestinian state on almost all of the West Bank and all of Gaza, a negotiated solution to the refugee problem, safe passage between Gaza and the West Bank, and a divided Jerusalem. Abbas backed out at the last minute, saying that he did not want to sign an agreement with a Prime Minister on his way out of office. In 2008, Olmert offered to unilaterally withdraw from 93% of the West Bank. Abbas rejected the offer, demanding "1967 borders" and "East" Jerusalem. As the saying goes, "the Palestinians never miss an opportunity to miss an opportunity".
29. A Continuous Dilusion
David M.   (09.07.11)
It is delusional to think that Israel can make any difference in the Middle East. Israel can change the equation by being able to defend herself. Beyond that, Israel can never force Arabs to accept Jews in their midst. Let's not forget that Israel comprises only 1/100 of 1% of the land Arabs control. By always blaming Israel, the actual victim in the conflict, Israel's Left pretends to be able to influence the outcome. In fact neither Jews nor Israel, whether Left or Right, can influence the outcome as long as the Arabs are as intransigent as they are. Please read Kenneth Levin's excellent book "The Oslo Syndrome".
30. idiotic
Golan ,   modiin   (09.07.11)
even if I ignored the reality of the last twenty years, history of Islam, Arab racism, Islamic fascism there is still the little thing called common sense to dispel this entire premise. All relationships exist somewhere between harmony and total war. There is no such thing as peace and to give up self defense in order to gamble on an illusion is absurd.
