31. livni is so bloody stupid
moshon   (09.11.11)
livni screams that the palestinian israeli conflict is fueling the turkish israel dispute. And so if israel cuts a deal with the pals, then turkey will be friendly. and egypt and everyone. She is so dumb. The root of the problem is the jewish moslem conflict. The moslem doesn't want a non moslem state in the area. And israel is supposed to hope that turkey doesn't wake up one day and start some other argument with israel over say gas, and so one. Livni is so stupid, it is beyond belief. Whatever deal israel cuts, it has to be secure, otherwise forget it. Livni already gave gaza control to hamas. Has that improved israel's situation. She is as dumb and weak as olmert.

33. "No one will extort us..."
AZConservative ,   Arizona, USA   (09.11.11)
...except Iran (but we can't say that or they might get mad at us). Iran is a whole lot closer to Turkey than the US is, and Turkey is aware of who is gaining more and more covert (and soon to become more overt) power in the region. Turkey is showing why it really shouldn't have been made a part of the European Union. Their true alliance is with the Arab world. And they are scared.
34. Turkey (and #18)
AZConservative ,   Arizona, USA   (09.11.11)
Fortunately, at the end of the day, Turkey no longer makes any difference.
35. #12
AZConservative ,   Arizona, USA   (09.11.11)
Turkey is gasping for air. In the global realm, they really are pretty meaningless. For the most part, they are ignored by the rest of the world because they no longer have any real influence. This is a feeble last ditch attempt to be a world player, but they can't even make it to the minor leagues. So now they're trying to hitch a ride with the Arab world, hoping they can get a little handout (the Iranians don't like Kurds, either, so they have some common bonds). Let them stand, and fall, with the rest of the Arab world.

AZConservative ,   Arizona, USA   (09.11.11)
Yes, Dennis, it looks like Israel is loosing support. But the key words are "looks like." While Israel has been receiving more overt criticism, the free world knows that they need to support Israel, at least covertly. It is the only real supporter of Democracy in the region. It's leadership changes much like in the U.S. - peacefully. (Take a look at the rest of the Middle East.) Policies and procedures change with each ruling party, just like in the U.S. Israel will do fine as long as world does not give in to Islamic terrorism. Unfortunately, you can already see who is giving in (hello, Turkey).
37. I feel sorry for Turkish people
Cynthia ,   USA   (09.11.11)
It was not necessary for Erdogan to isolate Israel in order to be a leader in the Arab/Muslim world. Israel never stood in the way of Arab relations. Erdogan and his sidekick Davutoglu are following Iran's recipe for Islamic supremacy. This will also require the Islamization of Turkey with removal of individual rights as seen in Iran. Eventually Turkey and Iran will lock horns because there cannot be two countries leading the Arab/Muslim world. There's only room for one and Iran wants this role.
38.  nm 3 ... lieberman
summer ,   tel aviv   (09.11.11)
if leberman would be pm of israel, erdogan a long time will pee in hes pants. maybe he is the only one who see thinks with real eyes named: turikish occupation since generation of cyprus, killing fields in kurdistan ,even deportation of muslims form turky to cyprus to get an higther population in occup cyprus. this guy erdogan is mad like hes wife , or he is maybe the 5 weel on hes wife car

What? I was talking about the Turk jerks fomenting etc And FYI I lived in Israel for 10 yrs roughly, and proudly served the country in many endeavors, including the IDF
40. Extortion
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (09.11.11)
So, demanding an apology from Israel for defending a fully legal and internationally recognized blockade (which attempted breach we now know Turkey actively encouraged and supported) and further demanding financial compensation for the families of nine dead terrorists isn't extortion?
41. Piracy is still piracy
windrider2 ,   Columbus USA   (09.11.11)
The UN did NOT say it was legal to board the ship in international waters. The UN says the blockade of Gaza is legal. However, a legitimate blockade does not begin in international waters but in the territorial waters. Israel acted like a band of pirates and executed nine people on the flotilla ship to keep wheelchairs and school supplies out of Gaza.
42. Davutoglu slams Lieberman
Orly ,   Tel Aviv Israel   (09.11.11)
Mr. Erdogan slams President Obama, Mr Davutoglu slams Lieberman. It seems that both are in the slamming business of everyone who do not agree with them. They think that Turkey can use "mano forte" with all the western heads of state and get away with it, because of the strategic position of Turkey. Let them not test their patience. They are in for a good surprise. The world is fed up with the arrogance of these two, and if it continues, good bye American and European Tourists and trade. Nobody gets away with the kind of language these two use.
43. plans to 'punish' Ankara
Apostle13 ,   San Diego, U.S.A.   (09.11.11)
A nation who experienced Holocaust, yet so far has no true courage to publically acknowledge and accept the Armenian Genocide, shouldn't be too surprised of what’s happing nowadays with Israel vs. Turkey fiasco. Karma at its best!
44. Right on Turkey
Ed ,   Hailey, USA   (09.11.11)
I'm no fan of Turkey's past treatment of the Kurds and I do believe the Kurdish genocide did take place decades ago. but Turkey is right to do what they did in response to Israel's, and particularly Bibi's intransigence. Israel needs to get the message, they have no significant world support (and more and more that includes the U.S.) until the give Palestinians a square deal. They're gonna have to make some significant sacrifices of land if they want to have any sort of long term stability and peace.
45. What goes around, comes around
Andrew Grantelli ,   Pittsburgh, PA   (09.11.11)
Ok, let's arm the Kurds and the Armenians and see how that is going to help the region and the US. We created Iraq against Iran, El-Qaida against the Russians and guess what happened at the end... It is foolish to think that destabilization of the only democratic islamic nation with a very strong military will help Israelis and the US.
46. THE TURKS TERRORIZED THE ME FOR CENTURIES
American ,   Los Angeles   (09.11.11)
but this time Israel will give them a lesson they'll never forget..Lieberman's ideas are great and wspecially if Armenian genocide is recognized this will be adeadly blow to the erdogan's regime.
47. #8
Mark ,   Los angeles, usa   (09.11.11)
#8 dennis, You may not support Israel but if you are employed and paying taxes your tax dollars go to Israel. Of course today is the 10 year mark since 9/11 and Obama gives 10 time what Israel receives to Islamic nations.
48. Jews and Kurds can live together
expert ,   uk   (09.11.11)
If the Israelis love the Kurds so much, maybe they should all live together in Israel.
49. answer to Yorgos from Athens
expert ,   uk   (09.11.11)
Mr Yorgos, do you mean how Greece was punishing the Turks in 1922? If I remember correctly, it was the Greeks who were swimming back to Greece. Read your history before making such comments.

51. re 20 Israe vs Turkey
dennis ,   Lonndon UK   (09.11.11)
I feel sure if you asked any Palestinian they would say Israel does to them exactly what you accuse the Turks of doing to the Kurds, come on you can't have it both ways either Israel and Turkey are both right in the way they battle militants or neither are.
52. Re 2 No one will extort us"
Dennis ,   London UK   (09.11.11)
"we will not allow anyone to do to us that which we do to them" Has Israel not adopted this futile attitude on Palestinians for the past 60+ years
53. No.33 - Your conclusions are wrong!
Andrew Grantelli ,   Pittsburgh, PA   (09.11.11)
Turkey is a nation with two segments: the secular progressives that follow its founder's reforms, and others that live in the shadows of the Ottoman Empire. Even after nearly a century this division has not found a common ground. Previous Turkish governments tried for 4-5 decades to become a EU member but, each time they were turned down for one reason or another. If Turkey was admitted to EU a few decades earlier, it is entirely possible that the political climate in Turkey today would have been different and a pro-western leader would be in Erdogan's place. Now, you have Erdoqan with his non-secular tendencies in power. He is a crafty, decisive politician who solidified the non-secular segments.
54. Turkey is just a Chicken
ray ,   usa   (09.11.11)
call the bluff Nuke those turks back to their chicken coop
55. Erdogan is doing evrything to heat the area
levi   (09.11.11)
56. Erdogon Has Made Many Mistakes
RickD ,   USA   (09.12.11)
His foreign policy is in a shambles. His friends in Iran and Syria no longer trust him. The arabs no longer trust him. He wishes to make gains in leading the Muslim world by attacking and humiliating Israel. Erdogon is reminiscent of Nasser in '67. He wishes to make gains by Big Talk. It has been argued that Nasser never intended to go to war but only intended to reap the gains of the Big Talk. "We will throw the Jews into the sea" and the like. The turks and other muslims eat that stuff up. With Erdogon's history of poor judgement it is certainly possible that he will get into a shooting war with Israel, even though he doesn't really want that.
57. #48 Jews and Kurds can live together
usama bat laden ,   uk   (09.11.11)
Funny how the "British" fundamentalists are eager to create one more Arab state, but not willing to recognize the rights of the Kurdish people
58. Turkey
Rosie   (09.12.11)
To Lieberman: If you want to act, - act, don't talk.
59. 16 Ussishkin
Gloriya   (09.12.11)
It was Lieberman who was the first to say that Mubarak "can go to hell". Then many people in the mainstream, not just extreme left, like you, were shocked: how dare he speak like that?! About God-Mubarak?! The President of Egypt?! Where is Mubarak now? In the 7th circle of Hell. Beware.
60. check your speak
yiannimil ,   ny,us   (09.12.11)
