1. Teffilin on Rosh HaShana
Zev ,   Scottsdale, AZ   (09.13.11)
Wow! YNet has really helped to illustrate the dramatic differences in minhag betwixt Aretz and Chul. I wanna come for Rosh HaShana so I can be mikayim the mitzva of wearing my teffilin another day...or two(?)
2. PA Statehood Bid
NYC Girl   (09.13.11)
Why send Shimon Peres when Israel has an ambassador like Michael Oren, who speaks flawless English and, in addition, is very telegenic? If it's felt that having Bibi go to the UN would send the wrong message, then Michael Oren would appear to be the perfect substitute...unless there's some compelling reason why it has to be Peres.
3. Perfect, #1 way to insure Congress will defund PA...and UN
Dr. L. Brnd ,   San Diego, USA   (09.13.11)
This kind of sickenly racist act by the PLO, directed at all Jews, will guarantee that an enraged US Congress will cut off all funds to the PA by a large veto-proof majority, as well as to invoke existing law closing all PLO offices in the US if they fail to negotiate for a peace settlement in good faith. And for good measure, I wouldn't be surprised if there is also a massive cut in US funds for the UN as well, if they agree to this anti-Israel, anti-Jewish outrage by the human garbage of the PLO. WATCH.
4. What #1 is trying to say
Shalom Hartman   (09.13.11)
is that this is obviously not a picture of Rosh Hashana as men don't wear tefillin on HolyDays. Perhaps we can have Ishmael Khaldi represent us - imagine - a bedouin israeli diplomat - great for pr!
5. The Pals will pay dearly for this stunt.
MARK KLEIN, M.D. ,   OAKLAND   (09.13.11)
6. PA Vote
Stuart Marks ,   ny usa   (09.13.11)
This vote could be considered to be on causing Pikuach Nefesh. This being so Israeli represetatives could attend the UN. Sonae Yisrael are sonae Yisrael.
7. Why do we respect them if they dont respect us
Judah ,   Israel   (09.13.11)
?? why care about ramadan when they dont care about our holidays
8. Really?
Zahav ,   Chicago   (09.13.11)
The FM "receives reports?" The idea is so plainly stupid, I hope Mr. Eichner has either done a good job sourcing the "reports" or doesn't mind playing the fool.
9. Pals' cowardice and hatred will be recorded in history
Sue ,   Los Angeles   (09.13.11)
Let history record forever that to achieve their statehood, Palestinians were too cowardly to participate in negotiations with their neighbor, Israel and further showed their cowardice and hatred toward Jews by requesting the UN vote be held during Jews' holiest days of the year.
10. Why not? The Arabs attacked Israel on Yom Kippur!
David ,   Karmiel, Israel   (09.13.11)
Fat lot of good that infamous and sick act did! But that is the kind of enemy we are dealing with. No morals, no decency and a warped, sub-human mentality!
11. Probably good for Israel. Imagine Lieberman speaking...
Observer   (09.13.11)
12. LOL
homer jones ,   nyc usa   (09.13.11)
Go for it. This is a case of giving them enough rope.
13. Pikuach Nefesh
Mickey ,   Sydney Australia   (09.13.11)
Declare 'Pikuach Nefesh' and allow Israeli diplomats at the UN to work during the holy days
14. Yom Kippur 2011 ?
Abdel Karim Salim ,   Jerusalem   (09.13.11)
Reminds me of the Yom Kippur War of October 1973 when the late Anwar Sadat finally delivered his promise. Seems Abbas is trying to imitate Sadat and appear as a leonine hero on Yom Kippur of 2011.
15. Ask John Bolton to represent us.
Terry ,   Eilat - Israel   (09.13.11)
16. Agree with #2- Send Michael Oren!
solomon ,   bklyn   (09.13.11)
17. And that's not anti-semitic?
noa ,   israel   (09.13.11)
Is that what Islam is about? Not very God-fearing, if you ask me.
18. if lieberman could move the holiday to the un-bid, he
eporue ,   europe   (09.13.11)
probably would love to do it... he cant travel, he cant go to a camera then, can he ?
19. Shimon Peres NOT
Alan David ,   Netanya Israel   (09.13.11)
Considering that Peres had not one hand, but two hands in enboldening the pals from Oslo till now, and was instrumental in there rise, and bringing back Arafat, and helpiing Sharon to give back Gaza, he is the last one you want to see in the UN. He should be hiding in shame and praying to G-D to forgive him for his sins against the jews. How he remains president of Israel is a wonder to all. It would be better to leave a empty podium than to have Peres represent anyone. It sickens me to say that Livni would be a better choice, with a bag on her head.
20. Sorry , but I wish you a happy yom Kippur .
Salma ,   Palestine   (09.13.11)
21. Why not? They don't respect Jews anyway...
William ,   Israel   (09.13.11)
Yom Kippur 1973!
22. Blessing in disguise
Haim ,   Bet Shemesh Israel   (09.13.11)
Although people were outraged from the the 1973 attack on Yom Kippur it was a blessing. No traffic so we could arrive on all fronts faster. Haverim this is a blessing if they do this on our Holy days. Have faith in Hashem. It is all for the good.
23. #20
A ,   Belgium   (09.13.11)
And you are the perfect representative of the fictional "palestinian" people and of the hate-filled, murderous religion of islam in general
24. 15# Terry, I wish John Bolton was running for president
Judah ,   Golan Heights,ISRAEL   (09.13.11)
But since he is not then Rick Perry will do just fine.
25. From Orient House toThis
NoahLev ,   HollywoodUSA   (09.13.11)
Look, what I understand is that therecanbe made exceptions to the requirments on the holidays. For example, to defend against a murderer, or if one must have some food. This vote is a step to eliminate Israel from the map, make it Judenfrei, (Judenrein) as the Krauts liked to say. Therefore, Im sure Hashem wont mind it. if the Pals are actually intending to use the holy days as justification to discuss their bid..it shows again, their true intent. They are circumventing all prior UN resolutions...and agreements. What else is new? Yet Israelis still hope for peace, a change in attitude, an acceptance of them. It will never happen folks. Why she shut down those 22 settlements is beyond me and withdrew the IDF? Her treatment of the Lebanese soldiers who fought with her, is disgraceful. She is taking 1 step fwd and 3 backwards..sooner or later,, well, just review the past 20 years, whenIsrael fully controlled the Strip and WBank. I am reminded of Orient House and its controversy. Think about it, now very insignificant.
26. War on Yom Kippur, suicide bombings on Ramadan...
Serge ,   Montreal, Canada   (09.13.11)
... nothing new here, I'm afraid.
27. #3. Right on! I REALLY REALLY REALLY hope they do it.
Chaim ,   Israel   (09.13.11)
#3.You are right on target! I also hope the PA goes ahead with this sick, blatantly racist act. Not ony will it guarantee massive American opposition to funding the P.A. As you noted, it will also fuel already strong American opposition (especially among Republicans) to funding the U.N. itself. It will also galvanize the vast pro-Israel majority of Americans to move the American Embassy to Jerusalem and take other strong pro-Israel actions. Even more importantly; such PLO action will make it IMPOSSIBLE for any Israeli politician to pretend the P.A. is Israel's "peace partner". Virtually all of Israel will rise up to demand an end to the phony "peace process"with the P.A. In short, it would be enormously beneficial for Israel if the PA schedules the U.N. vote on a high Jewish holiday. I REALLY REALLY REALLY hope they do it!
28. Allahu Porqchop
Steve from Raleigh   (09.13.11)
More Pork for Ramadan!
29. Stupid Idea
Lioness ,   Israel   (09.13.11)
The vote should be on Succot when we read in synagogues that all the nations will come against us then Hashem will get rid of them all and a small earthquake at the UN building during the vote willl go down very well!!!!
30. Yom Kippur ring a "bell"?!
Jerry ,   The Netherlands   (09.13.11)
