Jordan is Palestine
4. Obama made a thorough mess of things
Harry Wright ,   UK   (09.14.11)
in this arena by being a bull in a china shop, making all kinds of demands that were not even on the table and giving Abbas assurances without consultation and agreement with Israel. He should be ashamed to run for a second term. His legacy is total failure at every turn. Now he is in damage control mode but it is too late for any control of the wider picture. Events are unfolding that will leave the world in a far worse position than before his presidency. At least he will have the satisfaction of delivering to his handlers what they wanted of him.
5. Political version of a suicide bomber
Mike ,   oxford   (09.14.11)
In their attempts to blow up Israel, the PA will destroy iteslf and take out jordan with it
6. Annex parts of Judea and Samaria! Advocate Jordan as Palesti
Judea ,   Israel   (09.14.11)
Palestine, and the rest is history!
7. To Hell With the Hashemites
Abdel Karim Salim ,   Jerusalem   (09.14.11)
I can understand why the Hashemite monarchy in Jordan is of much interest to Israel and the US. The Hashemite monarchy in Jordan has been the uncontested,top-of-the list Quisling of the Arabs ! Abdullah I of Jordan often met with Golda Meir at the convergence of Yarmuk River and River Jordan to discuss plans of facilitating Jewish takeover of more Palestinian land in the 1948 war ; no wonder he was assassinated in Jerusalem in 1951.His grandson Hussein simply obediently and faithfully handed over the rest of Palestine to the Jews (Israel) in the 1967 war. Hussein even manifested his deep loyalty to Israel and the US when he carried out the masterly performance of slaughtering Palestinians in the 1970 Black September civil war in Jordan. And Hussein's 1972 "United Arab Kingdom" plan for the West Bank and Gaza was only the Hashemite carbon copy of several earlier Israel plans. Abdullah II of Jordan is well aware of what happened to the Shah of Iran 1979 and knows who abandoned the Shah. Perhaps it is a question of time before the Hashemite monarchy in Jordan experiences similar disgraceful downfall... Abdel Karim Salim Sharif
8. About time, for Palestinians & the rest of the world
Edward ,   Sydney, Australia   (09.14.11)
I'm sick of this neverending Israel-Arab conflict that brings no good to anyone other than religious and ideological extremists. This is going to be a bigger nightmare for the US if they alone veto the bid, as their role of 'mediator' between both sides will be seen for the charade that it is. The more the US and Israel threatens the Arabs to not go ahead, the more it shows the Arabs are finally, finally doing something right about this conflict (not war, not terrorism, not religious and superstitious craziness).
9. The Arabs are so used to having it their way
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (09.14.11)
They have no idea how much we have tolerated from them. I bet they are going to find out real soon. They do not have an economy. They live totally on hands outs from us and the West. They are going to find that we get tired of feeding them and getting bit at the same time. When Jordan falls we need to deport their citizens back to their own country.
10. Surprise, Surprise
Mark ben Josuf ,   USA   (09.14.11)
Jordanian acquaintances don't talk about a government teetering on the brink. Is somebody planning a coup? or is this wishful Israeli gov thinking to promote some Jordan-is-Palestine scheme?
11. socialist monsters are the root of evil
puppetking ,   multiverse   (09.14.11)
and will be exterminated one way or the other. They caused shtlr and stalin and the hurt israel suffered and suffers and will suffer - but they are FIN. HaHaHaHaHaHaHa HOoRAY !
12. Palestinian State
nadya ,   Garden Grove, CA.,US   (09.14.11)
Putting on this pressure at the last minute is ridiculous! Did it just dawn on you that this was going to happen? Good for the fortitude of the Palestinians, keep going!
13. bulldoze the Al Aqsa Mosque!
the name ,   THe Universe   (09.14.11)
If the UN gives the terrorists a seat, bulldoze the Al Aqsa Mosque and have the Orthodox Jews build the Third Temple.
14. JORDAN IS PALESTINE
JP ,   USA   (09.14.11)
READ THE HISTORY BOOKS
15. Jordan invitees the rest of the pals.
Beary White ,   Norway   (09.14.11)
Looks like the pals do not like beeing at the strip, nor the west bank, might be that is the reason for the violence they constantly create. So, if the king in Jordan will be so kind, I will be greatful on his behalf to invite all palestininas into Jordan, including the "refugees", even Hamas and Fatah. I am sure they will accept the invitation. If not, they could start killing each other like they use to do, but at least they are together. Please king Abdullah, be generous.
16. Palestinians only understand last minute
Eric ,   Tel Aviv & NY   (09.14.11)
Look at how Abbas handled the 10 month building freeze - he waited until into the 9th month to sit down to the talks he requested, and then only to extend the freeze, Abbas is getting treated by US, EU, and Israel just as he tried to treat Israel last year - and e does not like it.
17. #8 They could have had a state 7 times but refused
Eric ,   Tel Aviv & NY   (09.14.11)
Edward, Israel has done everything that is considered normally reasonable to offer the Palestinians a state that they are not entitled to under UNSC 242. IN spite of 7 offers for their own state they refuse to negotiate they refuse to acknowledge Israel is a Jewish state with a non-Jewish minority they refuse to allow Palestine to have a Jewish minority they refuse to balance rights of Jewish refugees against Arab refugees The list goes on. But so does the list of Israeli concessions to the PA: Israel left Gaza - complete with working economy Israel collects taxes for and hands them over to the PA Israel provides electricity and water - not Jordan or Egypt Israel provides medical care - not Jordan or Egypt
18. to #12 Ms Nadya
Al ,   usa   (09.14.11)
1. actually, you are correct. The momentum is there, the PAlestinians don't accept to wqit any longer to try declaring a state. What's slightly odd is they decide to copy the Israeli use of "State", not "Republic". But of course almost all Palestinians speak more Hebrew than I do. 2. What's also true is that the atempt will certainly fail to get anything except Palestine Day parades in the diaspora similar to the Toronto ShomerHaTzair college kids who imagine themselves to be teaching morality lessons to residents of Kfar Shmaryahu.
19. "Jordan is Palestine " !
Salma ,   Palestine   (09.14.11)
okay there will be no "IDF" on Palestine -Iraq border : ) guys remind me who said " Israel" must control the Jordan Valley for security reasons ?!!!!!!!!!! see you next " guess what" ?! allow me to Quote Sarah B : "stupid, stupid, stupid".
20. Edward, no. 8
Ilana ,   Netnay, Israel   (09.14.11)
Interesting viewpoint: Israeli opposition to the Palestinian move shows it is correct. So do you agree that the converse is true: that Palestinian objections to Israeli moves show that the latter are correct? I agree with you that war, terrorism and superstitious nonsense are not the way to go. But what about trying to find something that both sides can live with?
21. Violence will start any day now
Fred ,   The Negev, Israel   (09.14.11)
The Pals missed out on the so-called "Arab Spring" and will mobilize their masses to attack us at various points in the west bank. They simply can't change their nature. They have nothing politically to lose from doing so & in fact the world will press for an end to the violence that they in fact start & don't want to stop. The Pals know that we are too chicken to do the right thing & blow them away for attacking us so they figure, why stop? And as for crippling their economy...if they have to choose between economic prosperity and Arab pride and our deaths it's fairly obvious which they'll choose & it's not about the money in case you were wondering.
22. the meek, the feebble, America's friend
Peter   (09.14.11)
As usual, cheap and empty talk prevail in our govt " causing significant damage " (the old overused scenario). Arabs, foolishly act, then discuss; the benevolent and ever accomodating Jew do exactly the opposite or nothing (more likely)- It should have been done. -- To # 5 , Mike of Oxford; " that the PA will destroy itself and take Jordan out " - I am all for that. When ?
23. Number 7.....
Janet ,   Israel   (09.14.11)
The Mandate of Palestine was received by the British in 1918. This was all promised to the Jews in the Balfore Declaration. An Arabian Sheik Abdullah got the area now called Trans Jordania as a prize from the Brittish for helping them defeat the Ottoman Turks. Jordan ACTUALLY belongs to the Jews, ie, Israel, according to the Balfore declaration.
24. PA hasn't prepared professionally
Yael Schlichting ,   Raubling - Germany   (09.14.11)
If the PA would have good advisers they would have planned the scenarios and then they would have seen in advance, what would happen, if they come close to doing things, that aren't viewed to be desirable by others. It is not the duty of the US or EU to be the nanny of the PA. They step in when nothing helps. And now, as the PA behaves like a minor, who is seeking new frontiers, they are about to find them.
25. Palestine
George ,   alexandria USA   (09.14.11)
Israel has had more than 60 years to make an accommodation with the Arabs
26. George #25
Frauss ,   Jerusalem   (09.14.11)
Yes, Israel has had 60 years to make an accommodation with the Arabs and EVERY attempt thereof was met with refusal. The only acceptable accommodation to the Arabs is that we either pack up and leave or submit to Islam, or accept our dhimmi status in an Arab run Palestine.
27. #12, Nadya
Howard Immanuelson ,   US   (09.14.11)
I agree, Nadya, it's wonderful that the PA is doing this as it will mean a cutoff of US aid money to the Palestinians so they'll have to find sponsors for their incitement of hatred elsewhere. I'm delighted that my tax dollars will no longer be going to pay the salaries of Pal terrorists in Israeli jails and to pay for the hate filled textbooks in PA schools! After the dust settles Abbas will probably realize that he's just demolished a nice chunk of the PA economy and set peace prospects back farther than ever. Par for the course -- the Pals NEVER miss an opportunity to miss an opportunity.
28. #19: NOW I KNOW
Israeli 2   (09.14.11)
You are Sarah B.'s imitator
29. Very good
Eyal ,   USA Israel   (09.14.11)
Thank G-D our Palestinians neighbors have a lesser brain. They think it's a game, but when they lose their pants they will only realize the stupidity of their game. They are on a verge of collapse or lose a lot more than Israel, yet they are sticking to their plans? Am I missing something or is this G-D's work? Do they even care if their children starve? I think Israel should tell them, you go to the UN, we are annexing everything and we are stopping all negotiations with the Palestinians, as well as previous agreements, money transfers, everything. Time to play their game.
30. # 25-Do you know anything?
Jonny ,   Cape Town   (09.14.11)
Actually the area that Abbas claims is Palestine was actually under Jordanian control till 1967 - they occupied it in 1948, with no talk of a "Palestinian state" then. So when you make a statement of 60 years that Israel had to come to a settlement, you show your ignorance.
