1. Not only will it solidify Israel's legitimacy
OK ,   Israel   (09.14.11)
We will also cancel all contracts and services and annex all of Judea & Samaria.
2. Convenient ?
Jonny ,   Cape Town   (09.14.11)
Now the PA can blame all acts of violence on Hamas. Very convenient. Does the world actually know what they are doing? Stupid question, most of the UN is to stupid or to lazy to care, just a nice cushy job.
3. What's Wrong With HAMAS?
Abdel Karim Salim ,   Jerusalem   (09.14.11)
HAMAS says : " ... If it works, it will cement the Palestinians' recognition of Israel's right to exist." Is HAMAS still not aware that there is already an implicit recognition of Israel by all the Arabs ? I remember about a year ago or more a HAMAS personnel in Damascus admitted indirectly,in a telephone interview, that HAMAS can not ignore the reality( meaning that Israel's existence is already a reality and a " fait accompli" , &, thus, sooner or later HAMAS would admit it openly and directly) . Probably HAMAS position regarding Israel and the PA move on the UN is mostly for local consumption and for external propaganda !
4. They are NOT capable of self governance.
Devorah   (09.14.11)
Not in any way, shape nor form.
5. Hamas can go to hell.
Salma ,   Palestine   (09.14.11)
Hamas's coup in Gaza backed by Iran,Qatar and "Israel" is a death blow to the Palestinian resistance movement. so to Mr. Hamas official : shut the hell up! Hamas lost confidence among the Palestinian people, that explains why Hamas do not want elections , they would inevitably lose .
6. Look at that!
Can ,   Istanbul   (09.14.11)
Who doesn't support Palestinian Statehood bid? Israel, Backboneless-US and Hamas! They share the same goal with Hamas.
7. Abbas has no mandate from the people of the Palastinian Auth
Gedalaih   (09.14.11)
Abbas has no mandate from the people of the Palastinian Authoruty...elections were meant to be held last year and have been pushed back over and over again by Abbas. The real majority of voters are with Hamas...A terror organization who's sole goal is to destroy Israel ,the USA and other Democratic nations. Next week, the UN will vote on giving Hamas a state...
8. @5 Do you want to resist or do you want a state?
(09.14.11)
Not to say that you're going to get one.
9. #1
Palestinian   (09.14.11)
haha, you mean also cancelling all the security coordination forms, return west bank again under the Israeli full responsibility, and dealing with the Palestinian daily life again....Oh please do it to see how you can manage it...
10. I can't believe I almost agreed with Salma
Surprised   (09.14.11)
Dear Salma, I have to admit it's a wonderful surprise to see that you still have some sort of decency in you after all. Admittedly, you're still an imbecile, but at least you're not a frothing at the mouth imbecile. Yes, Hamas is bad for you. It's bad for us. It's bad for everyone. BUT - please don't ignore the fact that people like *you*, Salma, are a big part of the reason Hamas rose to such power. Please don't start trying to blame this on anyone else.
11. Salma - why do you say ...
Trevor ,   Modiin   (09.14.11)
Why do you say that Israel backs HAMAS coup on Gaza?
12. Poor Salma suffering from "Arab Unity"
Brian Cohen ,   Judean Peoples Front   (09.14.11)
Aw darn, there goes Salma's dream of a stable, peaceful "Palestine". Palestine will not be born this month, because the twin babies are still fighting in the womb. If they are both born, then then will take their fight out into the real world. Oh wait! They already did that! That's why we have Hamastan in Gaza and Fatahstan in the west bank. So Salma, tell us again how you are going to have a successful country with terrorists running 1/2 of it in Gaza, and the other half in Ramallah paying more terrorists like Awad to kill Israeli civilians?
13. to#9 lala-land
Marcelo ,   Berlin / DE   (09.14.11)
easy: arabs to Jordan, problem resolved for good and peace for everybody...
14. Well, Israel DOES have a right to exist...
William ,   Israel   (09.14.11)
and most people in the world agree with that assessment. Any supporters for a "Palestinian" State do so as a way for coexistence between two peoples, not a replacement of one over the other. Your continued goal of replacing Israel is pissing people off and showing the world your true intentions. Nothing has changed since the 1920s, especially your outcome. Give up your racist ways, agree to a separate State and accept Israel's right to exist, and your right to exist. It's win-win...unless you're Hamas.
15. Hamas
Martin Gray ,   United States   (09.14.11)
Regardless of what's being said publicly, Hamas recognizes the complete political, diplomatic and financial disaster that awaits all the Palestinians the day after the U.N. vote. Their evaluation of the U.N. initiative is pretty hard headed. This whole enterprise will be a train wreck for the Palestinians.
16. #3 - implicit recognition does not equal acceptance
William ,   Israel   (09.14.11)
Arabs recognize Israel but they do not accept Israel's right to exist, and that's the problem here. Not the West, and not even Israel, is against a State for "Palestinians" but the demand is for an absolute end to the war and peaceful coexistence. While they may accept Israel's existence in Kuwait, it's Hamas, Hizbullah, and the "Palestinians" in general that will not because their existence depends on it.
17. #5 - Israel helped Fatah very much against Hamas
William ,   Israel   (09.14.11)
it was Fatah that gave up quickly and ran, thanks to Dahlan. Don't put your failures on us.
18. #5 - wait a minute - didn't you say Hamas is legal ruler
William ,   Israel   (09.14.11)
in Gaza, through a fair election? Interesting how your story keeps changing depending on the argument. Hamas is a professional org in power....Hamas is just a rag-tag group of freedom fighters....Hamas represents the people of Gaza....Hamas represents no one. The only consistent piece here is the "Palestinian" bias towards war crimes and duplicity.
19. #6 - Include most Western nations, too
William ,   Israel   (09.14.11)
Most of the EU will abstain, including Australia. Who supports the UN State bid? Despotic third world countries...like African nations, Central American nations, all Muslim countries (but that wasn't surprising), and a handful of Asian countries. In other words, those either leading Leftist revolts and violence, or those with a problem against Western rich nations.
20. Are Hamas and Fatah that different?
Ya'akov ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (09.14.11)
Their goals are NOT disparate! Their goal in their charters both state clearly to destroy and take over Israel-all the last 22% of Mandate Israel until Israel has 0% and slit throats and poor Jewish girls/women either raped and live forcibly married to the racist Muslims or raped and murdered right away-not sure which fate is worst. The only difference to Arabs between Both terrorist organization is the level of Islamic observance. It makes no difference to Israel since they perpetuate terror! When will we and the world acknowledge this??
21. #18 William ,
Salma ,   Palestine   (09.14.11)
Hamas's coup was after they had won the elections not before. by the way , Fatah does not need your kiss of death.
22. So let me get this straight....
Yonatan ,   Tzfat, Israel   (09.14.11)
They rather not get recognized by the UN as a palestine-state because it is more important to them not to recognize Israel. Talk about backwards priorities. I hate to break it to you Hamas, but you've already recognized Israel. Perhaps as an enemy, but recognized just the same.
23. What is wrong with the PA and Hamas
Ben Novick ,   Kailua Kona, Hawaii   (09.14.11)
This can be summed up in one word "Corruption." They've got so much payola going on, all at the expense of their people. They argue over drug revenue sold to Israelis and who will pocket taxes.
24. #22 - they mean "right to exist"
William ,   Israel   (09.14.11)
Hamas recognizes Israel and often calls us "Israel" instead of "the Zionist State" which Iran always uses. It's just that Hamas doesn't recognize our right to exist and if they had the power to erase us, State and all citizens (including Bedouins, Druze, Christians, Jews...everyone who is not 100% for a Sharia State), they would. A UN bid would make borders coalesce and Israel finite, however they already made the lines when they use the term "Green lines" or "1948 Israel".
