1. Yes,well said! I'm with you 100%
chris ,   wales   (09.17.11)
it easier to blame Israel, being like the sacrificail lamb, than to arouse the Wolf,Islamic Powers! Everyone want to keep them happy,so sacrificing, yes, even the only genuine democratic state in this whole region,if this means keeping the Oil Flowing smoothly and not arusing the islamic culture, then so be it,,israel must be punished for crimes committed by her enemies,Israel must go quietly into the night..
2. Israel
Larry Butler ,   kibbutz Israel   (09.17.11)
Great story , wow something that should have beed written many years ago
3. For those not understanding Arabic, when Mr. Mahmoud Abbas
Jehudah Ben-Israel ,   Qatzrin, Israel   (09.17.11)
spoke yesterday in Ramallah about the "occupation", he talked about "63 years of 'occupation'". The meaning: the sovereign state of Israel, 63 years of age, is considered by the head of the PLO and the PA, according to the PLO's Charter, as an "occupied" territory. Thus, what is the true intent of the PLO that is eager to get off the yoke of "occupation"...??!!
4. Israel is always at fault
The Baron ,   Tucson, AZ USA   (09.17.11)
This article is a loathsome example of the employment self-pity to deflect criticism. For example, the line "In the end, it all comes down to a simple line promulgated by the media – Israeli actions are ultimately responsible for anti-Israel feelings from Turkey’s PM Erdogan all the way to the Egyptian masses. " is stunning in its chutzpah. The idea that Israel's actions were, in fact, criminal on their face seems to be beyond this writer. How dare Turkey protest the murder of its citizens in international waters? How dare anyone question Israel's inalienable right to subjugate its neighbors? Waving the Palmer Report and stating that the case is closed is akin to waving the whitewash Warren Commission report and declaring that JFK was killed by a lone nut and nobody should question its conclusions, no matter the evidence. The obvious fact that it is a whitewash does not enter into the equation at all, apparently. One may pump out all the propaganda they wish, but it will not change either the facts on the ground or the public's perception of them. Sell your hasbara to someone who's buying!
5. Unhelpful "Honest Reporting" Spin
American Jew ,   New Jersey, USA   (09.17.11)
Obviously you intentionally left out some key facts like blockade preventing arms is legal but not a collective punishment seige and Israel refused to cooperate with Goldstone, eh? Let's present our legally justified positions based on International Law consistent with Judaism, and accept the findings which should favour Israel if behaviours are legally justified and morally correct!
6. Surprise
Shimon ,   Loveland, USA   (09.17.11)
It's out of fashion to espouse truth unless it's Liberal truth. Israel is way out of fashion. Has been for years. Better and easier to believe "The Underdog" even though the facts are tremendously against them. Poor little terrorists. Please don't confuse us with facts nor truth. It's much too inconvenient to think for ourselves. Please just give us the Kool Aid and tell us what to think and do. Erdogan caught Israel's hasbara asleep at the switch. Once again. How long before you fire the incompetent and get some tough young media savvy Israelis in there to get the job done the right way?
7. media bias
moron ,   galut   (09.17.11)
israeli press almost as bad as much of the foreign press--it's a 'progressive'' thing and if one shares their views which are collectivist generally the jews must conform-bend knees to their idols
8. Media bias against Israel
Vicky ,   Ballston Spa, USA   (09.17.11)
I'm wondering why Jewish people don't ban together and boycott watching the biased mainstream media news and listening to biased hosts of mainstream radio talk shows. It would be good for them to see a drastic drop in the numbers of people listening and watching the misinformation they put out. I wonder if there is a way for technically savvy internet people to get this to happen. Just a thought.
9. Dishonesty never pays
Pinhas Bayit ,   Bet HaKerem   (09.17.11)
Under the 2nd Netanyahu government, we have lost all our important allies, lied to our best friend, discriminated against our minorities, squandered our revenues on occupation, deprived our future generations of any vision and any hope and made a mockery of the accountability principles on which our democracy is supposed to be based. We have devalued the Shoah, by constantly invoking it as justification for our disproportionate reactions, and eroded the very Zionist beliefs on which we founded our state. No one else did any of this. We did it ourselves. The only shred of dignity and integrity we have left is the social reform protestors, whose message we need to nurture and support. We are in a dark place and they are our only flame of hope.
10. Who the hell gives a shit on the media????
(09.17.11)
After all, the media is considered as a bunch of useless individuals. The only people that are scared from the media are the media individuals themselves, as they consider the power of the media much more than it actually is. For example, the media has focused on the woman that shouted to an Israeli spokesman "You are killing my beople" believing it has any influence on the Israeli public opinion, but for the Israeli public opinion she was no more than an uncivilized bimbo that can be bought by a few dollars.
11. Don't look too far...!
Ayeush ,   Gibraltar   (09.17.11)
It should be noticed that Israel has so far been unwilling to come out for the real narrative of its ETHOS: the story of over 50% of Israel population whose actual proper narrative-story has been so far ignored. What it is that Israel is still sticking to the oft-repeated propaganda that Israel is an European post in ME when actually the Sepharads-Mizrahi (who in their majority are of Portuguese-Spanish ancestry) that left the Arab-Muslim countries under duress, lost their thousand year patrimony, make-up over half of Israel citizenry. It would certainly changed the data , and counter the core of Arab-Muslim, and leftist, propaganda.
12. Israel's PR
Stephen Goldstein ,   Santa Cruz   (09.17.11)
I couldn't agree more with your comment about Israel's PR. Problem is that this is nothing new. Since 1973, Israel's PR has been at best sporadic and at worst non-existent. The country should follow the likes of AJC's David Harris to learn how to present its positions and turn bad news into an opportunity to "educate" the international media. Admittedly with such a seemingly intransigent Government as the one now in power, the country has a huge challenge to put its best foot forward from a PR perspective.
13. #11 the core problem
Jerome ,   NZ   (09.18.11)
is Israel who is wasting millions of shekels on funding "the Israeli film industry" The most silly and amateur movies ever made are actually financed by the government, when this money could have been used to engaged top PR agents worldwide.
14. to #11 Ayeush
look here...! ,   The Colonialist EU™   (09.17.11)
Does it bother you that ure actually the first person who I've seen claiming that Israel is an "European outpost"? Are they also under control of the European Kommisars, how much do they contribute to Greece's bailout? To "counter the core" of the propaganda, consider looking at other fields, as a beginning, I rly think that's not the core.
15. Here in the UK its barely ten years since a time when no
Tcherkessi   (09.17.11)
Criticism of Israel whatsoever ever appeared in the media. Going back further to just after the second attack on Egypt in 1967 a Guardian journslist lost their job after trying to have pictures of Pal children who had been napalmed by the Israeli airforce. The Guardian tried to tell us about 10 times Saddam had WMD. More recently there has been absolutely no discussion on why the "murderers" aboard the Gaza "terrorist" flotilla did not kill any of the soldiers they took captive yet nine civilians were killed. Not one jot.
16. Where is the anger against Hamas?
oneye ,   Blindland, USA   (09.17.11)
Where is the anger against Hamas for oppressing, killing and using as human shields their own population? Let me buy the propaganda that Jewish lives are worthless, after all, all Jews are criminals (see Eichmann et al), that Jews deserved to be killed, and that Arab lives have intrinsic worth (in oil). Where is the anger against Hamas killing Arabs? If your mission is to punish Israel, then of course you will ignore Arab atrocities on Arabs. It is as if they have a right to murder their own population, and it's nobody's affair but their own. But I see through it. A Jew murdered by an Arab - worthless. An Arab murdered by an Arab - worthless. An Arab killed by a Jew defending himself - scream "Kill the Jews". Notice the calculus here. It's not who is being killed that brings out the screams. Arab lives do not matter if an Arab holds the knife. Jewish lives have never mattered to anyone but Jews. It's the Jews defending themselves that is the crime! Stop those dirty Jews from defending themselves! And why? So we can perpetrate Holocaust again! Too bad for you Eichmanns, the Jews aren't cooperating anymore.
17. Political correctness..
Beary White ,   Norway   (09.17.11)
So it has become. The enemies of Israel are dominating amongst the media-journalists, and inside the leftist political governements in Europe. We can clearly see this in norwegian media, and also in the comments from the leftist government. It has become political correct to say and write something bad abouth Israel. Then, it actual shows that most of the journalists are strongly related to fellow journalist-friends to get a free beer, instead of having the integrity of honesty to tell the truth.
18. Playing a Victim too Long
Steve Adams ,   Nu Nu   (09.18.11)
Personally I have been completely neutral to the Israeli - Palestinian affair, but it doesn't take a lot to see that Israel is not playing fair when it comes to global politics. If the state wasn't so snide when doing diplomacy or finding sneaky ways to circumvent international law, it would be easy to take Israel's side. But it's hard to support something that's disingenuous.
19. Isreal being real Childish.
Jimmy Starpijg ,   California   (09.17.11)
Israel is being real childish about this... Just apologize for the flotilla attacks and we will be done. There was a Turkish Aid Ship going to Gaza. Which is Ruled by Palestine. Israel is attacking the innocent people there and trying to take it over... Now that is what i call bullying. The flotilla was attacked by people in helicopters *In International Water* . Israeli men armed with big Guns started killing the innocent aid workers even though they had nothing to do with it. The Turkish people where peaceful so of course they did not bring Weapons on board also because they where bringing medicine and first aid supplies because many people do not have access to sufficient medical equipment. Still the Israeli Men Shot them when they where running away. Then they took all those supplies for themselves even though they did not need it. Then they searched the ship. Found no Weapons. Took the ship and tried to hide it from anybody finding out in shame. -If the news website I am submitting to this blocks this then that will be major censorship-
20. Maybe one day
rune f ,   Oslo Norway   (09.17.11)
Maybe one day the world will start to blame the meidia instead of Israel
21. Israel always guilty
Sam ,   NYC   (09.17.11)
Hey Simon, bist du a averbotl? Of course Israel is always guilty - they're Jews. Nu, what else is new?
22. Baron, Tucson, USA
(09.17.11)
You are the kind which usually gives credit to conspiracy theories that 9/11 was an inside job, no doubt. you are a moron.
23. Seriously?
ExpatZ ,   UK   (09.18.11)
You planning on playing the victims for all time? Or perhaps you are going to take responsibility for your own screw ups and atrocities some day eh? I'm not holding my breath on that last one. Now let the cries of anti semite begin!
24. Palmer report
Steve ,   Liverpool UK   (09.17.11)
To be honest, as an outsider who freely admits that he does have any kind of in -depth understanding of the complexities of the situation, Israel comes across as a nation state with a huge lingering persecution complex.
25. THIS STORY IS NOTHING BUT PROPAGANDA
Tom ,   USA   (09.17.11)
Isreal is only painted as the bad guy because they are. all they do is constantly break international law and force america through APAC to brain wash the american public
26. Response to #9
(09.17.11)
According top your logic, George Bush should be blamed for the 11 September massacre, since he was the president when the massacre took place. Well, I think the majority of the 300 millions American do not agree with you. The truth is that the Muslim world has freaked out, and this has nothing with George Bush or Benjamin Netanyahu. You can blame Netanyahu for losing the fight with the Palestinian propaganda, but you cannot blame him for his policy. After all, we have learned that we are dealing with the worse savage killers since the Nazis, barbarians that worship bloodshed, and do not understand the meaning of peace.
27. #9 r u crazy? Palestinian dishonesty has paid off great!!!
Brian Cohen ,   Judean Peoples Front   (09.17.11)
Get with it, Pinhas. Our important allies are still there. The US is still behind us, and Canada's Harper just said he'll vote against the Pallies (and those are 2 of the world's biggest economic powers). The social reform protesters are a joke, representing a minority in this democracy and they have every right to exercise their power at the ballot box in the next election. Why are you talking like such a loser? Just look at the most dishonest people in the neighborhood - the Palestinians. For the past seven decades they have maintained a total policy of dishonesty, and look how it's paid off for them!! Billions of dollars of handouts every year that their top dishonest people pocket. A world convinced of all the dishonest things the Pals have sold them on, the most dishonest one being the lie about Israel being an "apartheid" state. Bah! Pure bullroar, yet you missed it!!!?! Look at the facts - Israeli Arabs have the vote, serve in the parliament, are not barred from buses or beaches or intermarriage. Now look at the Pals, who just declared that NO Jews will be allowed to live in Palestine. Pure Palestinian apartheid, no doubt about it. Total dishonesty by the Pals.. Yet all you care about is moaning and groaning and repeating their lies??? We're in a bright place. All you have to do is take your blindfold off.
28. No win situation
shlomo ,   USA   (09.17.11)
Since Israel is in a no win situation vis a vis the media, don't worry about the media or world opinion when it is necessary to go to war. Let the Generals run the wars and keep media, politicians, and world opinion out of it. Wars are not won nor deterrence created by bowing to world opinion.
29. Re/ Schlomo
Angel Gabriel ,   Dunedin New Zealand   (09.18.11)
Israel is in a "no win" situation because it continually puts itself there. When you lash out with overwhelming force on an aid carrying convoy as you did, in "International Water's" you put yourselves squarely in the media spotlight.. I suppose you could consider a tactic change that might change your image, but that would require admitting that you're wrong in how you handle yourselves in 95% of the situations you find yourselves immersed in. Wake up Israel! You'll catch more Bears with Honey than your Big Stick approach!
30. Two thousand years of hatred are diifcult to erase.
Michael ,   NY   (09.18.11)
How can Israel control the media reaction when it is so biased. There must be some brain out there who can fiind a solution. Western culture has been infected with a virus. Israel will never get fair treatment. Its difficult to undo two thousand years of hatred and the Arab control of the media with petro dollars. Just look at the ads on the NY subway.
