1. Small symptoms of a gloomy biproduct from the liberation
Peter Paul von Fábry ,   Stockholm, Sweden   (09.20.11)
The shortage of palm fronds may be a harmless fact. After all life goes on in Israel and pther Jewish communities around the world. But the symbolic value of this trade embargo is a disturbing symptom of a growing practical antisemitic activism in the liberated Egypt and in the democratic Turkey as well. Antiisraeli for sure but to deny jews in the rest of the world to buy the palm fronds can't be named anything else than acts of antisemitic practice. It is just as strange as if Sweden wouldn't sell Volvo cars to arab clients, because of Hamas activities. Not only strange, but Egypts decision is also fueling the belligerent side and making peace and understanding more distant.
2. Let the Muslim Egyptians keep their Muslim palm fronds.

nadav   (09.20.11)
nothing but pure hatred, racism, and antisemitism will materialize from this "arab spring"
4. Palm frond embargo
graczek ,   Maryland, USA   (09.20.11)
A small, but excellent and well-thought out symbolic move by Egypt. Sends the right message!
5. Its Time To Give Them Some Plagues Again
Moshe ,   Jerusalem   (09.20.11)
It seams that Egypt has forgotton what happened to them a few thousand years ago, its time to remind them
6. israel's enemies are so stupid
(09.20.11)
at s time when egypt needs revenues and money via trade, they cancel this sale that can give them millions of dollars into their abysmal economy. when you hate so much, you drown in your own hate.
7. Seems like a good thing to me
jsm   (09.20.11)
Seems like a good idea. I mean Egypt really doesn't need the foreign currency anyway - and Israel could use the money.... So who's idea was this again?
8. you know what they can do with their
Barney ,   USA   (09.20.11)
palm fronds. where the sun don't shine.
9. Oh no....No Lulavs?
Tim ,   Brighton   (09.20.11)

10. Palm fronds
Bill ,   New York, USA   (09.20.11)
The way things are going with the Egyptian economy, they may soon need to eat those palm fronds.
11. No Egyptian Lulavim????
Koose E Mack ,   NY NY   (09.20.11)
The price will go up...we will now have to buy from Spain, Italy, Greece, and some US States like California and Arizona. However...the message for the Egyptian growers... Ho te Haffi Tizak!
12. What's a few lost fronds among friends?
Carl ,   USA   (09.21.11)
Bad for business, though!
13. i suggest these mental giants also
Barney ,   USA   (09.21.11)
ban the import or benefit of medical technology from Israel. I understand sand tastes pretty good if it is seasoned correctly. let them eat san and camel dung as their society completely disintegrates and they go back to the 7th century where they belong. what a mentality. you couldn't even dream it up if you tried. their brain trust equals some crack heads on the streets of nyc or some junkies in iran smoking heroin. way to go egypt. you had a chance to move ahead but you went way back. you will reap what you sow.

15. Egyptian Ban
NYC Girl   (09.21.11)
Notice how this embargo on palm fronds isn't just relegated to Israel, but to Jewish communities around the world. Apparently, when the Arabs say they don't hate Jews, they only hate Israelis...they're full of shit.
16. That's just stupid!
JrslmPal ,   Stockholm, Sweden   (09.21.11)
I think that's just stupid! How's that good for their economy?! Do they think they are the only country in the world who has "Lulavim"?! What's the plan?! Bring Israel down on its knees begging for Lulav?! Israel and its economy will crumble down due to this move?! If I sound too simple and stupid to understand the great purpose after this move, why can't they enlighten me and us by giving an explanation! By the way, I am a Palestinian.
17. A good thing - bound to happen
Hinda ,   SF Bay Area   (09.22.11)
I think it is a good thing. Egypt's economy is in the sewer. Israel can import from the US and other areas around the world. Supposedly even Australia is attempting to grow them. I believe it is a good thing. And when Israel reclaims Judea and Sumeria as it's own (which should never have been forfeited away) then Israel can be even more self-sufficient. Notice all Muslim/Arab countries cannot be self-sufficient in producing good agriculture? Many DO import from Israel.
18. egyptians rethinking decision on lulavim
doron ,   london uk   (09.25.11)
i have it on good authority from the local egyptian ambassador that a final decision to release these palm fronds will be made on the 19th of october. chag sameach !
19. #4 - yes, that any Arab agreement is worth crap
William ,   Israel   (10.19.11)
and that no Arab should be trusted. That's the message I got - and see we've all gotten since the Middle Ages. Too bad this message is an attack on JEWS and not just Israel, as the article mentioned. Thereby making this action one of racism and not one of symbolic protest. No problem. Israel isn't one to sit around when an obstacle comes her way. She'll figure out a different way and find a solution. Kind of like that large gas field off our coast which will help Israel put Egyptian gas as second place for Europe (further hurting Egyptian exports). I think Israel's response sends a better message - "We can succeed without you, even with your silly boycott, dumbasses"
20. The only good thing that ever came out of Egypt...
William ,   Israel   (10.19.11)
was the Israelites.
21. #5 - have you seen Egypt lately?
William ,   Israel   (10.19.11)
They have been giving themselves plagues for years. No need for Israel to get involved. Anyone who can poison Europeans with tainted fennel seeds then with a straight-face blame the "Zionists" for it, can't be wrapped too tight.
22. #16 - I have a few questions
William ,   Israel   (10.19.11)
I see from your post that you're confused with Egypt's decision. I think we're all in the same company as no real value seems to come from it - just an act of vindictiveness for no apparent reason. But you didn't voice your support for or against it. Are you supportive of such embargoes against Israel, no matter how racist, as long as it has a larger goal to hurt the State and its Jews, or are you against it as stupid and hurtful for peaceful coexistence? You appear to be from Jerusalem. What are you doing in Sweden?
