1. Where have we heard this before?
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (09.20.11)
I know the same statements were made after the disaster Oslo I was signed, and again after Sharon's ethnic cleansing of Jews from their homes in Gaza. This WILL CAUSE A WAR. I stated the same at the time of Oslo. I stated that the attacks would increase after Sharon's folly. I am two for two, what is your record like Mr. Ben-Yishai?
2. Brilliantly Dumb move by Abbas
Norbus ,   Jerusalem   (09.20.11)
Good for Israel but not for reasons you give. It will unshackle Israel to enable following a Ben Gurion's policy precedent to annex the West Bank that was recovered in June 1967 Maybe the Arabs living in Israel who do not want to live amongst Jews will be given options & resettlement grants to cross the River Jordan.
3. a surgical solution
nospam   (09.20.11)
The best creative solution in the long run is the quick military campaign and consequent transfer or Arab population to Arab lands. Have been done so many times in the past. There is no point to leave a ticking bomb for the generation to come. UN bid will make it much more difficult, that those in power must understand.
4. The evacuation of tens of thousands of settlers - try again!
michael redbourn ,   Arad Israel   (09.20.11)
Try 500,000 ! 9,000 Israelis were uprooted from Gaza and it was the biggest Army operation since the Yom Kippur war and it took 10 days. Approximately 500,000 Israelis live in the West Bank, so they aren't going anywhere. Michael

"First, because we can reasonably assume that a symbolic UN achievement would MINIMIZE PALESTINIAN FRUSTRATION over the ongoing diplomatic impasse, boost the faith in Abbas and MINIMIZE SUPPORT FOR HAMAS." "The UN move also MINIMIZES THE RISK OF ANOTHER VIOLENT INTIFADA, while granting the sides, including the US and Europe, a vital timeout of some months at least." I am going to go out on a limb here and declare that Ron Ben Yishai is using the word MINIMIZE when he should be using the word MAXIMIZE. Because, if he really did not mean to say MAXIMIZE then he must be totally retarded.

Now is the time to emphasize that Palestinians cannot have their own Palestine AND expect Israel to absorb so-called Palestinian refugees. The PR should focus on the absurdness of the demand and also protest the PA demand that Palestine should be Judenrein (free of Jews).
7. Everything will come to an order
Oleg ,   USA   (09.20.11)
as soon as they will be left out of money. Stop giving them money, let them think how to make them. Pals used to get everything for free, instead they have to think how to feed themselves by their own. Israel should not give them a cent and stop giving them jobs inside Israel.

9. Laughable Palestine fiasco will be great for Israel.
Chaim ,   Israel   (09.20.11)
The P.A. made a highly publicized statehood bid in 1988. It was an absolute fiasco, despite the fact that conditions were far more favorable for Palestine statehood in 1988 than today. In 1988, the Jewish population of Judea and Samaria was less than half of it's present 700,000. Moreover, the last P.A. statehood bid wasn't strongly opposed by Hamas, which could eat Abbas and Fatah for breakfast any time it wanted to. In addition, there were other less publicized Palestine statehood bids which also failed spectacularly. When the upcoming Palestine fiasco blows sky high, it will be great for Israel. Fictional Palestine will be completely discredited for all the world to see. Meanwhile, Israel is emerging as a major energy power.

barry ,   Bizarro World, USA   (09.20.11)
When will Israel understand that they want you DEAD, in the SEA. No compromise, negotiation or anything else will ever resolve this. If you can't recognize the trend, you're as good as dead already

david ,   new york   (09.20.11)
ben-yishai completely misses the point. the goal of the palestinians is not to live side by side in peace with israel, but to destroy israel. "Palestine" is designed to supplant israel. negotiating with them is like negotiating with your executioner: "please use a duller knife". the only reason why some israelis do not get this is that it is so far from the way THEY think that they can't believe this is what the arabs want. please, talk to the fogel family killer - this is not some crazed lunatic, it is mainstream palestinian thinking.

Jeff ,   Texas   (09.20.11)
Palestine. The US Constitution and later federal laws grant local sovereignty to tribal nations, yet do not grant full sovereignty equivalent to foreign nations, hence the term "domestic dependent nations". The West Bank and Gaza remain territories within the borders of Israel. There! Done. Now peace... One State - One Solution

Jerry from the Netherlands. In every article you write about a big Israel. I notice that you do not even live in Israel, or does your version of big Israel include the \netherlands?
16. mass production is good for Israel's prosperity
observer ,   Egypt   (09.20.11)
Israel is going to make mass arrests of Arab activists. Whole sections in Negev & Ofer prisons are being prepared to host the coming residents.

a peace treaty with the palestinians would likely be followed by similar treaties with other hostile states...what does this mean for us? well, how about economic dominance in the region...israel manufactures everything for a to z while most other middle eastern countries are consumers...it would be a definite boost to our economy and less street tents on the streets of major cities.
19. Good article

hope you are right.
20. A Peace Treaty Is Coming
D. Digger ,   St. Petersburg, U.S.   (09.21.11)
After the Psalm 83, Obadiah, and Isaiah 17 war there will be a 7-year peace treaty with Israel by The Beast (Antichrist). This war will thought to be the gigantic Battle of Armageddon. Entire Muslim countries will disappear and allah will be discredited..
21. a pipe dream
Galutia ,   Selah   (09.21.11)
Just a HUDNA WITH A UN STAMP... With out a complete and sincere recognition of the right of the Jewish states Right to exist by ALL palistinian factions including Hamas ,and Hezbulah (Iran) the conflict will continue for years or till the lord returns...
22. And also
Pontus ,   Sweden, Stockholm   (09.21.11)
In the long run a valid, functioning Palestine is the only sustainable way for peace in the region. Israel needs to leave Palestine to itself completely and then, if need be, strike back with force if Israel keeps getting attacked. There is no need for building a human buffert zone anymore. Strong, clear, secure borders are good for Israel.

steve ,   usa   (09.21.11)
just cannot be this naive. The Palestinians have observer status, diplomatic missions ofr decades and has this stopped terrorism? Of course not, they use proxies and will always do so. They won't give up the Old City, right of return and Judenrein. So until they do, a time out, is a war of attrition and recognition is a violation of international law.

Israel Israeli ,   Tel Aviv   (09.21.11)
There are no good clear defensible borders: Judea and Samaria are an integral geographical part of Israel. Just as Arafat always said: there is no room for two countries. Israel cannot strike back. Israel retreated from Lebanon and Gaza which have become launching sites for attacks against Israel. Since then, the world prevents Israel from taking any defensive action.
25. What are the time lines here?

"There are no good clear defensible borders" There is a very clear natural, defensible border: The Jordan River. From the Golan in the north, through the Jordan Valley, to Eilat in the South. When the "palestinians" are on their side of the border in Jordan and out of the West Bank (and Israel), it will be simply a matter of preventing incursions from "palestine" across the river into Israel. "the world prevents Israel from taking any defensive action." Actually, its the bloated marshmallow Barak who allows weapons to the "palestinians", while trying to suffocate any Israeli attempts to defend its civilians and soldiers and eventually to strike back hard against her enemies. He is the WORST defense minister ever and the first who has to go.
27. #22 Pontus from Stockholm is so right
Timour ,   Lod   (09.21.11)
It may sound a bit funny but Pontus from Sweden understands our real needs much better than our government and WAY better than the ridiculous bunch of permanent dwellers of this site. Thank you Pontus! Maybe one day sound voices like yours will prevail in the local scene.
28. Yes... UN effort good for Israel.. like a stick in the eye!
