31. Abu Mazen=dead duck
Mark ,   USA   (09.23.11)
If Abbas doesn't bring something back to Ramallah, the arab street there may well kill him...he will be viewed as a betrayer of the arab cause. But it's he who backed himself into the corner..he will have to suffer the consequences.
32. Abbas heard nothing new
Joe ,   uk   (09.23.11)
What else he wants to hear did Abbas offer anything its only one way traffic Abbas wants all his way and if he gets it only arabs people will live in Palestinian land his long term plan most likely to drive all jewish people out of Israel
33. PA pre-conditions make talks impossible!
michael redbourn ,   Arad Israel   (09.23.11)
The PA will not accept Israel as a Jewish State but wants a Muslim State free of Jews. The above is a complete non-starter for any negotiations! Even anti-Israel supporters would surely be shocked if this new Muslim State started forcibly removing 500,000 Jews from their homes. And Israel would sit back and watch? Why does Abbas refuse to recognize Israel as a Jewish State? He wants millions of Muslims to return (700,000 left) to Israel but can't insist on that if Israel is a Jewish State.
34. Peace is ALWAYS in the hand of the aggressor
Look who's talking ,   World   (09.23.11)
Don't say Israel doesn't want peace when you are the one throwing the rocks
35. Its time for negotiations NOT dithering and point scoring
Sammy ,   Newcastle   (09.23.11)
OK. The UN Circus ends today...and now what? Lets hope this heralds a new begiining in serious negotiations We say to Natanyahu and Abbas to stop these pathetic childish 'mind games' that simply stall the process We say to Abbas - dont give Natanyahu the opportunity to stall by announcing more settlement building at the most 'carefully chosen inopportune moments' Are they mere coincidences or too much of a coincidence? Go into talks without precondition and then test his will and integrity and sincerity to negotiate In any case everyone knows that settlement building or no building ...nothing is settled until the final settlement
36. Getting it all wrong??
Yael Schlichting ,   Raubling - Germany   (09.23.11)
The Arabs are masters in distorting the truth and the worst is, that they believe their own lies. It's not that Israeli leaders don't want peace. They carry the responsibility for creating a lasting peace. Looking at Egypt, where we gave back the Sinai for a piece of paper we now can see that a majority wants to annul the peace treaty and we can observe what is going on in the streets. We all know Arab countries tooooo good, that we can reason from this, that they act in consent with their leaders and express a prospect to our future relations. We all remember too good the demonstrations in Cairo ahead of the six-day-war where an angry mob shouted "We want war! War with Israel" and we remember the words of Ahmed Shuqayri who, being asked for the fate of the surviving Jews, answered, that there wont be any survivors. Well, we know that history took a different path, but we also know only too good, that the Arabs didn't change their hostile attitude towards Israel. They, in fact, didn't give up their goal to annihilate Israel and kill all Jews. They are still trying to kill us wherever they can and only substantial security efforts let us live in peace on our own soil! It is important to make clear to the Arabs that there is not only an Arab position to the problem, but there is also a Jewish position and as long as the Arabs believe, they can solve this controversy by killing the counterpart, there cannot be substantial negotiations. It must be made clear to the Arabs, that Judea and Samaria, the land of the Patriarchs is Jewish heartland! And again: We have taken the displaced Jews from Arab countries and gave them a new home. And what about you? What about your displaced brothers and sisters? You don't lift a finger and abuse them as a political means of pressure. You, the Arabs, didn't restraint from any method. The more obscene the better! It's you who started the wars and it's you who are to take the responsibility for it! So, take your refugees! Give them a new home! Make substantial efforts, that show, that you are interested in peace! Don't talk! Act with the means of peace and not with the means of war and terror!
37. Abbass killed Jews and no Jews,he should be in prison
Anna M Sedda ,   Rome-Italy   (09.23.11)
..we must not forget that,to gain his Pali state,Abbas and PLO killed Jews and not Jews alike... Abbass kills innocent people in Rome airport,an American disable man in achille lauro boat(a mean a disable innocent old man, only guilty to be amarican) Abbass in a killer,a monster, and shoal be locked, not a state president.. No Palestine!!!!!!
38. #36 it is rather you that are the masters in distorting the
sohaib ,   scotland   (09.23.11)
facts after learning from your oppressors the nazis. and the prove you convinced yoursef that palestine is your country that your forfathers left you what a Bull****! were you not in the verge of having an african country with the blessing of the brits? was not the zionist that started this propaganda about Palestine never existed and it should be Jewish ? so who is the master of deception and distortion, for the wars if it was not for the west and america you would have been history by now. if peace means more occupation and killings and ethinic cleansing than you are right we are not peacefull far from it.
39. History&geography teach : BIG ISRAEL practical compromise.
Jerry ,   The Netherlands   (09.23.11)
40. Same thing with "Palestinians"
William ,   Israel   (09.23.11)
even though their leaders have poisoned the minds of hearts of their citizens, "Palestinians" by and large are willing to accept peace.... but it isn't the majority that Abbas is afraid of, it's the minority zealots and Hamas that would lynch him within minutes.
41. #4 - steal from who?
William ,   Israel   (09.23.11)
Jews lived on the same land as you claim they are "stealing" until 1948 when they were ethnically cleansed. Arabs never had sovereignty over this land which is why its disputed. However, what land are you claiming is stolen? 99% of homes are built in existing settlements and towns as natural growth and Arafat agreed to that when he signed the Oslo Accords. So are you supportive of "Palestinians" breaking their agreements because you hate Israel so much? Racist dink!
42. #13 - Abbas walked away from negotiations a year ago
William ,   Israel   (09.23.11)
who's stalling the peace talks? Abbas is - because he refuses to return to negotiations until he gets a long list of what he wants. That's not honest nor fair. In addition, Abbas said he'd never accept a Jewish State, insists on flooding Israel with 5 million hostile foreigners, and will not end demands on Israel even if "Palestinians" won a State. So who is working to destroy peace? Let him come with an absolute plan, and end to the conflict, no right of return, and land swaps - and he'll win. You're so dishonest, it makes me sick.
43. #16 - Bibi has called Abbas many times
William ,   Israel   (09.23.11)
Abbas stated he refuses to even talk until Israel gives him all that he demands - end to settlements, 1967 lines, Israel accepts all "refugees", Arabs get Jerusalem holy places including areas right up to the Western Wall....but refuses to promise Israel security nor recognizing Israel as a Jewish State. So what exactly is Bibi to negotiate on? The Arafat aide Rachid admitted that "Palestinians" screwed their relationship with the US back in 2000 when they chose violence instead of peace. So claiming that Obama ruined the US for the "Palestinians" is not only wrong, but who cares? Most Americans do not support the "Palestinians" anyway, and 20% consider them all terrorists. Obama may be gone, but the US is solidly behind Israel, regardless of your anti-Israel hopes and dreams.
44. #17 - did the Israeli govt post here?
William ,   Israel   (09.23.11)
So how did you come to that conclusion by reading the posts. Israel's position (everyones) is the same as the US and EU - any agreement with the "Palestinians" will be final, Israeli security is paramount, 1967 lines will NOT be the final border, and Israel will not see an influx of foreigners which will threaten its existence. Nothing has changed. Why do you insist it has? Abbas is the one who insists their State will be a step towards destroying Israel. Nevermind the racist intentions of Hamas. What the world wants, including Israel, is a lasting peace and a final end to the war. What the Arabs want is what they didn't get in 1948 - an end to Israel - and Israel's existence is NON-NEGOTIABLE. Jacob, are you that stupid or just racist?
45. As expected
Israel Israeli ,   Tel Aviv   (09.23.11)
Netanyahu was elected on a Zionist platform. He chose to turn his back on his voters and adopted an extreme Left platform: he refused to include NU in the coalition; he appointed the failure Barak as DM; he imposed a racist building freeze on Jews; he gave the YSM free hand against the Jews of Judea and Samaria; he supported massive and illegal Arab building including building the Arab city of Rawabi. He betrayed his voters and damaged Israeli security, but as expected he did not gain support and love from his opponents. Despite his far-reaching concessions, he is still hated, earning attacks by Clinton, Zippy and Abbas in one day. Will Netanyahu ever learn?
46. Abbas is Delusional and Psychotic Get It
Noah Lev ,   HollywoodUSA   (09.23.11)
Its like this. A married couple is getting a divorce. Prior to the hearings, the attorney for the wife demands most of the husbands assets and children but the old car will be negotiated. Unless the other side complies, the wife will demand a part of his income for the rest of her life, plus an order forbidding the husband from visting the children. Abbas is something really, as are his Pals supporters and leaderhips. They demand the 67 lines and E Jerusalem as borders..the right of return an absolute, complete sovereignty over security, a link to the Strip, the control of the water beneath the ground and air above, compensation for any Arab not relocating, no Jews in any part of the new state, and an army and freedom to make treaties. Then he will talk..oh, Israel cannot say its "Jewish", but a coutry for all its people (including millions of Pals). Why israel continues this charade and farce is beyond me? Abbas going to the UN thought the US would reneg..and vote yes..and get complete EU suport at the UN. They understood that Israel is not about to commit suicide. He also saw the protests (400,000) in Israel and heard Olmert, Livni, Beilin and others lambasting Bibi as the cause of all Israel's ills. He saw an opening. But likea bee hive, the warriors and workers got smart and started to unite to protect the queen. Even if there were to be an agreement, where does Ahmad of Iran, Hez/Hamas/Fatahs military wing/ Al Aska Mosque/the Taliban/ and Al Qaeda stand? W/O them, all is futile, as the good captain says.To Israel: after the farce at the UN is over, keep your doors open for negotiations. Dont back down on your red lines..and create 3 more armoroed divisions, if Egypt gets bold.
47. #38 @ sohaib - Justice is not a shell game
Yael Schlichting ,   Raubling - Germany   (09.24.11)
I do not believe, that you are seriously referencing the Angolan alternative offered way back in time. You, sohaib, cannot on the one hand take a foreign land, even if it's long ago, lie on the presence of Jews, because there always have been Jews on Jewish soil, and offer another unjustness to compensate the unjustness you and not only you, did to us! This is our land! It always has been our land! There is no peoples on this planet, but the peoples of Israel, who has justified claims on this land. Who do you think you are, to recommend us to go somewhere else and compensate us by doing wrong to others who are weaker than us and have nothing to do with our problem? No! It's you who took a land that isn't yours and it's us to take it back. It's a problem between you and us. You unjustified claim a land, that is not yours! The precedence in history is, that neither the Peoples Of Israel nor the Jewish State ever ceased existing. The precedence is, that we kept all this alive throughout the hard times of diaspora and foreign rule. And on 14th of May 1948 the foreign rule ended! All the wars and Arab aggressions. All the killings and the terror didn't change it: We are here to stay! You cannot change it! Love it or leave it!
