1. Nothing will change - Time wasting - Must recognize Israel
(09.25.11)
This has been going on for years and wont stop until Israel is recognized. You can only negotiate "hudnas", truces, ceasefires, etc with an enemy sworn to your total destruction. Funny? That's what's been going on for 60+ years..
2. bibi wins because obama fears defeat
moron ,   galut   (09.25.11)
ynet editors may vote for him but he is a leftist like them and will not be re-elected....thearabs do not want peace and the americans tire of role of leasdership--not about BHO
3. Bibi won,Israel won as well
Cyril ,   Canada   (09.25.11)
What a load of crap!!! So Israel wasn't raped by Obama and the pals and that's in the writers opinion is a bad thing.... Bibi is not responsible for Obama's defeat in the special election in NY,people there woke up and saw thru Obama's policies and vote accordingly.Last thing on Obama's mind is the wellbeing of Israel, his turn around, which will be short lived,is nothing but politicing. He wants a second term and will do whatever to get it.Russia was an enemy of Israel and will be an enemy of Israel no matter who will be the Prime Minister.Russia armed Israel enemies for decades and will arm and support them in the future. Will vote always against Israel but fortunatly US is the only power with some weight,Russia,EU and UN are bystanders with lots of cheap talk and no power to push thru anything. They can do lots of harm and difficulties,no question, but for the time being and forseeable future the US has the only power, with all it's weakness is still the strongest.
4. I disagree with you.
Jonathan   (09.25.11)
Why is it so difficult to understand that there is NO ONE to make peace with on the other side ? Netanyahu won, Israel won, the Jewish people won. You just can't accept a state next to our borders that does not even recognise Israel. Simply put.
5. huh?
Israel Israeli ,   Tel Aviv   (09.25.11)
Azoulay says that Obama's speech was pro-Israel. Instead of making blanket statements, I'd be happy is she pointed out even one pro-Israeli statement Obama made. I have listened to his speech and a summary is simple: The negotiations are predicated on the agreement that neither side take unilateral action to change the status of the Judea and Samaria. Abbas' unilateral decision is a fundamental violation of the agreement and the US president, as a guarantor of the agreement, cannot support it.
6. AIPAC to Russia? Too cold!
Chris ,   USA   (09.25.11)
7. Obama's chances of reelection
Paul ,   Mitzpeh Netofa, Isrl   (09.25.11)
Obama's chances of staying around for another 4years are about the same as the chances of a snowball in hell staying around for another 4years.
8. She has a "great track" record
Sidney ,   USA   (09.25.11)
Note the date. Countdown has begun US, Israel prepare for Iran strike in wake of new intelligence information Orly Azoulay Published: 04.29.07 Why is it so hard for these leftists to understand that Netanyahu is a strong defender of the Israeli people? They all favor appeasement in one form or another. It can't work because Abbas has recently stated his goal to wipe out Israel (end 60 years of occupation).
9. Quoting Dr. Martin Luther Kind
Mark ben Josuf ,   USA   (09.25.11)
" Free at Last, Free at Last, Thank God Almighty, I'm Free at Last" The mediation - make things happen role is somebody not the US. If Arabs or Muslims even talk or use the US as a back channel, that would be interesting, but not likely. By year's end, the US will be out of Iraq and Libya. We may have our tripwire force out of Sinai, too.
10. Not to worry...
seadog1946 ,   Arthur Kill, NJ   (09.25.11)
Lieberman speaks a russian dialect and has intimate knowledge of how to deal with Holy Mother Russia.
11. No winners and losers
Steve   (09.25.11)
It seems to me, the United States and the international community will keep pressuring Israel until she finally gives. Then Azoulay will have her way and it won't be pretty.
12. ORLY: Ha! Ha! Ha! Bibi & Israel won!!!
Israeli 2   (09.25.11)
14. Dribble
John   (09.25.11)
One can like or hate Bibi - either way, its irrelevant. The author has put forth an argument that, while containing some interesting and correct assessments, fails to make the point why the U.S. is no longer in the lead in the peace process. The U.S. is, in fact, still in the lead and will be for a very long time to come.
15. Leftist Israeli media REALLY makes me sick!
Ralph ,   literally!   (09.25.11)
16. Just stupid! Israel won. Socialists lost. Barukh ha-Sheim!
Paqid Yirmeyahu ,   Ra'anana, Israel   (09.25.11)
Israel determines Israel's future, not the U.S. OR Russia OR any other!
17. Yes, Bibi won : )
Salma ,   Palestine   (09.25.11)
I bet the same idiots in the Likud party will re-elect him in next internal party elections.
18. Bibi won Israel lost
james ,   UK   (09.25.11)
There isn't enough land in Israel to be split into two nations which has never been since the beginning of history. Bibi, Abbas, Obama and yourself knows it, the rest is politics.
19. Why bother! Netanyahu doesn't want peace.
Rich ,   Toronto, Canada   (09.25.11)
He wants war, so the wealthy elite can cash in on the conflict.
20. How sad this is -
Arn. ,   Sweden.   (09.25.11)
- Israel has been bestowed with the greatest wisdpm ever, still there is Israelis who denie this, and only exposes Foolishness in comparison to the Wisdom of HASHEM - Proverbs 26 17He that passeth by and meddleth in strife belonging not to him, is like one that taketh a dog by the ears. Israels destiny is to be the Leader Head of the World, not the Tail ruled by Human reason. Arn.Sweden.
21. Obama had messed it up in the first place.
Rebecca ,   Modiin   (09.25.11)
Dont make out as if Bibi brought Obama down. He managed that all on his own, with his arrogance. Bibi just made sure he was not in a position to send us down the river
22. Being Pyrrhic or being Smart?!!!!!!!1
Ayeush ,   Gibraltar   (09.25.11)
If Obama was all what we expected, including me, an astuce and realistic leader, things wouldn't have reached such a nadir disapointment , and Peace would have had a chance. But, its unfortunate, he got what he saw. I wouldn't discount the fact that President Obama is actually laying and formating the Palistinian attacks and agenda. Now, you might call that an imaginary plot, but just look at the precedences in where he was involved: the acual campaign of 2007, which will go down the history as the most unethical campaign between President Obama and his Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, where they monopolise the News for over 6 months averting any interruption to read about the Republican platform. SoOrly, you might have to look for a different interpretation of Obama's guilt or no guilt.
23. shallow analysis
Gedalia ,   Perth   (09.25.11)
This is an op-ed? It lacks substance and depth, and just comes across as sour grapes from a partisan political opponant of Netanyahu. What is the basis of this opinion. Bibi delivered a stunning speech, and the US supported Israel in a time of need. I am no Obama fan, but his speech was also excellent, and hopefully the combination of both positions will put some realism back into the realpolitik.
24. Blame Obama and Blame Obama's mama while you are at it!
Sheik rattle & roll ,   USA   (09.25.11)
It is a disgusting shame that every issue and problem in Israel/Middle East and the world is blamed on Obama. Egypt implodes so blame Obama. Syria implodes blame Obama. Libya implodes blame Obama. Iran gets nukes blame Obama. The Martians on Mars are starving blame Obama. 100 percent tax on candy bars, shoes, cars, underwear in Israel, let's just blame Obama. Enough of blaming Obama and just solve your own problems because we have our own problems and it is all OBAMA'S FAULT.
25. Orly
litvac120 ,   usa   (09.25.11)
According to Orly Israel should delegate her security and future to someone else: US this time. This demeaning position is something you can expect from a leftist, who forgot the purpose Israel was build in the first place. In the past we had plenty of "court jews" in the diaspora, now we have them in Israel among the leftists. litvac120
26. A little sparkle in a sea of rejectionists
Not A Lefty ,   Tel Aviv Israel   (09.25.11)
Thanks Y-Net for giving us a reasoned honest perspective on a speech that at least one Talkbacker in another column said pretty much the same thing: that Bibi made us look weak. The more he lectured and justified doing nothing, the more he postured and spun, the less convincing was he that he spoke for a nation that is supposedly the region's military power. What he succeeded in doing was to play to the Republican gallery and to the nationalist orthodox voters at home. And yes he is gambling that the Republicans will win in 2012 - more than a year away - that he will still be in power and that he will find a shiduch made in heaven as a result. When you gamble with the future of two peoples, two states, ours and the Palestinians, like that, you'd better have strong cards and a really good back-up plan.
27. 16. 'Sheim'? Don't you mean Shame?
Baruch Norman ,   Bat Yam   (09.25.11)
And 'Yahu's speech was definitely that, a Shame, the speech of weakness and insecurity, winning us nothing, achieving just one more day in power for this worst Prime Minister we ever had. I Pray to Ha'Shem to be delivered from this.
28. Rubbish
Bruce ,   Efrat, Israel   (09.25.11)
If the definition of insanity is doing the same thing while expecting different results, we would be crazy to expect continued US leadership to lead us to a fair and lasting peace with the Arab world. What was Obama planning that hasn't been put forth time and time again over the past 20 years? The Arab world will still not recognize Israel as a Jewish state, and its continued failure to do so is ultimately to be the failure of any agreement that is formulated on that recognition. Pure folly.
29. Flawed Analysis
Roy ,   USA   (09.25.11)
The author has some things right but her final conclusions are deeply flawed and inaccurate.Like her political associates, she cannot see that Mr. Netanyahu has been Israel's staunchest leader with the strongest backbone in the last 15 years and a large portion of the Israeli people understood this when they gave him their votes in the last election .She and her ilk will continue to beat on him, but in the end, he will prevail.
30. #24
Israel Israeli ,   Tel Aviv   (09.25.11)
Obama can't complain: anytime something goes wrong he blames Bush or the Europeans or the Jews, never taking responsibility himself. No one blamed him for Syria, he was blamed for sucking up to Assad and then looking liked a fool when Assad started massacring civilians. He wasn't blamed for Egypt, just some think that he should have found a more dignified way to help Mubarak retire. He was blamed for Libya because he violently effected regime change, including destruction of civilian infrastructure, assassination, murder of children and civilian deaths, all violations of International Law and UN security council decisions. As for the Israel issue. He chose to blame Israel for all problems in the Middle East (read his Cairo speech) then humiliated and insulted Israel and the Jewish people, forced Israeli concessions and started negotiating with Israel as Abbas' proxy. People who believe that negotiations can bring peace believe that this tactic forced Abbas to take a hard line that lead to this failure. Abbas himself even said it.
