1. Translation: Give back some stolen land, and keep the rest
Steve Benassi ,   Silver Bay, MN USA   (09.26.11)
...and maybe the world will get off our backs.
2. Duh!
Michael Steiner ,   Bahrain   (09.26.11)
Of course a Palestinian state is in our interest. Or rather, it is NOT in our interest persisting in the subjugation of millions of people who hate us and throwing money into building and protecting settlements we have no chance of keeping in the long run. Thank you, Dr. Hartman, for an excellent piece. Of course, now be prepared for an onslaught of bile, insults and libelous vitriol from the usual suspects.
3. I HATE to break the news to you...
Gideon Reader ,   USA   (09.26.11)
...Bunky, but in the real world, it still takes two to make peace. If there were only six Jews left in a duplex in Tel Aviv, and they all promised to leave within six months and never return, the Arab highbinders; squaters would still want all six deader than Hogans Goat, and the flat bombed and or burned to the dirt. "Settlements are not the problem. Jews are not the problem. the problem is a cculture bereft, non productive murderous gaggle of desparate scorpions who crap in their messkits as a ritual of the distortion in their DNA. They are savages and unworthy of respect and need to be treated as any other group of hostile felons. A nation? they cant manage a two man circle jerk without screwing it up.
4. It´s amazing the most Israelis cannot see this simple truth!
Michael ,   Sao Paulo   (09.26.11)
5. Lets try it??
Bob ,   Canada   (09.26.11)
Gaza experience was not enough??
6. It's time to really lead
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (09.26.11)
By expelling the illegal occupiers from our lands - back to their own country. They are Jordanians and Jordan renounced all claim to any land west of the Jordan River. Send their citizens home.
7. "In Israels interest"?
BJL ,   usa   (09.26.11)
This is madness. A "rabbi" none the less, willing to sell out to the Islamists for Israels destruction. A "rabbi" who doesnt ever mention the religious war that is at the heart of the conflict. Have you not learned from the Lebanon and Gaza withdrawl that it brings a far greater threat? 50,000 Hizballah missiles, 10,000 + missiles in Gazastan. Are you going to give away Har Habayit? And the Western Wall? And half of Jerusalem, Rabbi? Do you think for a minute the PA will allow the IDF a permanent presence in the hills of Judea (Jew-dayuh) and Samaria? It is not courage but cowardice that drives those willing to give this land to the Islamists.
8. Yeah, and cyanide is painless.
Scott ,   USA   (09.26.11)
9. Wrong! It is NOT an Israeli interest!
Israeli 2   (09.26.11)
10. Is right of return an Israeli interest too?
Rachel ,   US   (09.26.11)
Because that is what Abbas is demanding, so how do you solve that?
11. Fool me once: shame on you! Fool me twice- shame on me
Ariely ,   Jerusalem Israel   (09.26.11)
How Palestinians negotiate? Lets assume is a cake! Step1: Before starting negotiations you have to give me a present Step2: The present is insignificant. Give me something more significant. Step3: OK. We are negotiating: Half of the cake is mine. Let's negotiate about the other half. Step 4: Palestinian are telling to Arab world that the cake negotiation is a game played with infidels> Palestinians renew indiscriminate violence Step 5: After been tired of the current violence stage they say : Lets have a brake and start negotiations. Sep 6: They demand to start the negations from what has been left of the cake from of the previous negations> The farce peace negotiation cycle restart from Step 1
12. Good article
Rafi ,   US   (09.26.11)
13. Why Israelis are stupid
effie   (09.26.11)
The palestinians to a man will never accept a jewish state living next to it; how can we negotiate with a people whose existence is solely a means to our destruction? how can we ignore their own intentions repeated daily in their mosques schools streets and homes? it is as if we have decided to break down the barriers of a zoo and allow lions to live among us in the hope they won't eat us.
14. Not a very Tanakhic position
David N. ,   Haifa, Israel   (09.26.11)
You are making far too many assumptions. Respectfully, the ancient prophets saw this time. As far as the world is concerned, we are damned if we do, and damned if we don't. The very idea of Palestian identity was created to make a small Arab peoples to confront the big bully Israel, instead of the large Arab world bullying tiny Israel. The entire "peace process" is fruadulent, though many may be sincere in their own held beliefs. As a rabbi, a Tanakh position would be more fitting... repectfully.
15. #10 Yes For Sure
Salma ,   Palestine   (09.26.11)
We and you want & need a permanent solution to the conflict, not just painkillers .
16. That "rabbi" is very weird
trumpeldor   (09.26.11)
with ideas totally opposed to all Jewish tenets !
17. "Rabbi" Hartman
Abraham Nachmias ,   Petach Tikva IL   (09.26.11)
Each time I read your articles I arrive to the same conclusions: 1) Your mind is not Israeli, it's North American 2) You use just logic to confront things, meaning no love for the Land of Israel 3) Your idea about Israel has nothing to do with Torah, just a place where we Jews can live. 4) Main reason you write and believe we are supposed to listen is that you head your family's institute.
18. @no11
Pontus ,   Sweden, Stockholm   (09.26.11)
Interesting that you would chose a cake to make your point. Negotiations according to Israeli right: We will talk about tha cake only while Israeli right wingers are still eating it and IF there are any crumbs left after we've finished talking/eating please help yourselves (as long as we don't feel like eating the crumbs too that is).
19. 17 is SO right
David ,   Haifa Israel   (09.26.11)
20. To: No. 1
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (09.26.11)
Ixnay. We're not giving any land. We've already done that -- did it bring peace with our violent ersatz "Palestinian" neighbors? No. It didn't. It brought more violence. Let's get these slackers and whiners the hell out of our land.
21. No. 7 and 14, the esteemed rabbi is conservative
m   (09.27.11)
Conservatives don't believe in the revelation, they think Torah was written by a few nomads, so why would we expect from them to have any sentiments to our past and connection to Torah and Eretz Israel ?
22. #3. A great summary. Stunningly accurate and well said.
Chaim ,   Israel   (09.27.11)
#3. Fabulous post! In one brief post, you've managed to accurately summarize Israel's real problem with "Palestinians" And you are absolutely correct. If every Jew left Israel and there were only six Jews left in a Tel Aviv duplex AND they all promised to leave within a few months. "Palestinians" would brutally murder all six and burn their duplex to the ground. Stunningly accurate and well said.
23. a state for every people etc...
sjoerd ruurd van der ,   mankindship   (09.29.11)
that every people has a state is in the interest of the entire world-population/the entire mankind.
24. #1 Steve in USA
Dallas ,   Canada   (09.29.11)
Do you know how your country came into being? Walk the talk and give California and Mexico back. Such hypocrisy. As well, that's more workable than making a deal with the PA because Mexico actually DOES recognize that the US should exist.
25. NUTS TO THAT!
Reuven   (09.30.11)
26. Palestinian State will try and destroy Israel
Bear Klein ,   USA   (09.30.11)
A Palestinians state number one goal will be to destroy Israel. That is not good for Israel. All the arguments for it, are either naive wishful thinking or pure pro Arab or anti Israel propaganda.
27. Did you hear abbas?? No Jews
art ,   jersey city USA   (10.01.11)
No Jews the Jordan to the Med sea. There is NO compromise from the pa. The bottom line no Jewish "entity" "no Jews on Palestinian land" What do you not understand??????
