31. Make them walk
Haim ,   TA   (10.01.11)
Their behavior is truly discusting, it also proves they have no respect for anyone else and no respect for the law. They should have been arrested upon landing and put in jail better still drop them off in Afghanistan where they belong/
32. Fly TURKISH AIRLINES !
Gregg ,   Haifa, IL   (10.01.11)
It's a remarkable company ! Perfect service, perfect planes, perfect air crew and perfect flights !
33. Not Hassidim!
Dan ,   Tel Aviv   (10.02.11)
Sorry to say but a very large amount of the people who go are Hilonim-secular and not hassidim! besides, that most of these Breslover Hassidim are ex secular which might be where they learnt it from!!!
34. smoking?
mattan ,   merritt island, usa   (10.02.11)
if you don't appreciate the gift of life and take care of your health, then you don't appreciate hashem, and you are spitting in his face. Respect the creations in order to respect the creator.
35. Sounds like El Al is making excuses for them.
Josh   (10.02.11)
Whether it is your first time flying or not, civilized society knows how to follow rules. If anyone should know how to follow rules, it should be people who claim to study Torah all day long. So no. It is not good enough of an excuse. The first time I flew, I did not smoke or brawl. They should conduct themselves as they would in shul. With lives on the line and the great value Rabbis have placed on lives, where is the Rabbinical intervention to help save lives? But maybe as a convert, it is because I came from what some call "barbic seed" that I see the great danger and uncivilived nature of this outward disrespect for the airlines and people who are not "hassidic". If I were on any plane an someone started brawling with the crew, I would put an end to it. The world is getting fed up. The idea that they would hold a plane because people are in duty free, really cooks my noodle. Like everyone else in the world, if your not on the plane on time, you miss your flight and have to pay for another ticket. Sof haseepor! It is no doubt an unearned superiority complex and entitlement attitude that is not supported by Torah that has some delusional hassidim thinking they are above it all. That and the way police give a pass in Israel which feeds this attitude. One law people. That means for everyone, one law. Moses had a lot to say about such attitudes after Moses stuck his neck out to save the Hebrews from certain death.
36. To #20
Norman Gellman ,   Rehovot   (10.02.11)
You are quite mistaken labeling the article anti-Semitic. No passenger has the right to ignore safety requirements or destroy/deface aircraft parts. These people have a history of disregarding anything that does not fit their narrow life view. It’s too bad that El Al’s need for revenue lets them board their aircraft and make the comfort of other passengers intolerable. They should not be allowed to board in the first place or as an alternative the aircraft should land iat the nearest airport and have these hooligans forcibly removed from the flight.
37. #5 No. They are just plain Ashkenazi
Jerome ,   Auckland NZ   (10.02.11)
I was married to one for 13 years :)
38. over generalization
Wade ,   NYC USA   (10.02.11)
I fly El Al several times per year to Israel. Most of my flights are very pleasant and crew and passengers are generally very accommodating. There are occasional exceptions, and they can be from non-religious as well as religious. Perhaps the flights to the Ukraine involve a totally different type of traveler?
39. Boorish passengers
Israeli grandma   (10.02.11)
Debbie has had bad experiences with "religious" fellow passengers, but we flew El Al to London a few weeks ago, and the disruptive, shrieking, and uncontrolled children were all blatantly Hiloni. There were quite a few Haredi families with lots of children and babies, and the only "problem" on our flight was that the crew serve the special kosher meals first and the rest of us have to wait ages for our regular (and perfectly kosher) meal.

El Al announced some time ago that policy is not to hold up flights for passengers who are still messing about in the Duty Free shops. Ynet is guilty yet again of making a big drama about the small proportion of boors and hangers-on who travel to Uman. The whole point which most talkbackers have missed is that El AL's rabbi has issued guidelines and instructions for unsophisticated "religious" passengers.
41. Disgusting
New Yorker ,   New York, New York   (10.03.11)
This article is disgusting. Try replacing the words "Hasidim" or "Ultra-Orthodox" with Blacks, Muslims, Mexicans, etc. Only the Jews bash their own. I was born on the Upper West Side but had an Israeli grandparent and have spent time in Israel. I love Israelis but I guess from the trauma of terror and war the secular culture has become pretty rude and obnoxious. There are plenty of rude tourists in NY from many countries At Union Square, Time Square and some of the malls I have seen secular Israelis acting totally inappropriately smoking in places clearly marked non-smoking, wearing clothing that screams, "Look at me--I'm available". That's not to say that religious Jews don't also violate the rules on occasion or also have a culture shaped in some ways by trauma. Many of the comments here are pure vitriol. It is hard to believe that one Jew can hate another Jew so much. So their kids woke you up? At least they're having Jewish kids while everyone else is intermarrying or just not having kids at all.

I'm not sure how true this story is or not. I've met many Haredei Chassidim and have never encountered this.
